I decided to opt for the black soybean version since I had never tried it before. The color is slightly gray in comparison to the white one, but barely noticeable. You can add the ginger syrup and sugar on top by yourself. I scooped some of the tofu pudding and slurped it up. Literally, it was so smooth it just disappeared after I put it in my mouth. Literally, the smoothest tofu pudding I've had had. I was amazed even as I was eating it, and realized that this is what people meant by smooth tofu pudding. It was smooth and silky. I also had the soymilk (from white soybeans) - $9. It was also very good. Not too sweet either. Could taste the freshness and taste the strong soybean flavor. Sesame mochi - This is a chewy, dough exterior with a sesame and peanut mixture interior. Also, very, very good. The chopped up nuts mixed with the sesame was a good combo, and this is probably one of the best I've had. The outside was also very soft and had a good texture. Another winner. At this rate, I may have to make many visits to Yuen Long. Such good food there. Will I come back? Of course. Please ignore if you see a girl trying to continuously eat 5 bowls of this tofu pudding. And follow it up with a couple bottles of soymilk.

There is a reason why this place is so popular: it feels very home-y with the booths along the sides of the shop and round family-style tables. We arrived around 9:20pm on a Monday night, with little to no line. Just a short 5 minute wait for tables to clear up. In that time, we noticed dessert bowls served in pretty yellow Chinese-style porcelain bowls. Once seated, a Chinese menu peered up at us from under a glass-topped table. I quickly asked for an English menu and a lady kindly brought it to us. I was originally eyeing the walnut cream 合桃露 or the almond cream 杏仁露, but considering my slight cough, decided against anything nutty and heavy, and went for the red bean sweet soup with tangerine peel 陳皮紅豆沙, and boy am I GLAD that I did. It wasn't too dense or too watery. The red bean was blended quite smoothly into the soup with small chunks here and there. There were no visibly large red beans as you would see in other places. While I previously preferred the large chunky "hong dao sa", I think my tastes buds have changed, and have found my go-to place at Yuen Kee. In addition, what I liked best was the use of the tangerine peel - which gave the red bean soup a new uplifting citrus-y smell and taste, and provided a pleasant and natural sweetness to the soup (compared with overly and unnaturally sweet ones elsewhere). My friend's sesame soup 芝麻湖 was just as delicious! Like my red bean soup, it was perfectly blended, and not too grainy, nor too thick or goopy of a sesame mixture. I only wish ALL the desserts came in the yellow bowls - ours came in plain white bowls. You can be sure I'll be back once my health is fully restored.

The sandwich true to its name does contain tuna and slices of boiled egg, but I think I may have overestimated how much I like tuna sandwiches or any kind. I tried their Jivara chocolate lime, which is another one of those less conventional cakes, where it's more mascarpone and curd than sponge. A coworker of mine joked that the cake looked a bit like a giant malteser, and I suppose she's right. It does, though it's resting in a chocolate shortcrust cup-shaped base (see attached photo). More recently, I've tried their mocha and Mille feuille. He mille feuille was wonderfully crisp, and the caramel, was whipped beautifully so it wasn't overly dense or sweet. That being said, it seems that I still don't know how to eat one properly, since I made a pretty grand mess of the pastry. Their mocha is good. It isn't very sweet, so it makes me feel a bit less guilty about eating a really sugary cake/pastry, but I like the latte more. I felt that the chocolate was to a certain extent masking the scent and flavour of the espresso, so I will probably stick to the latte from now on; to a certain extent I've often seen myself more as someone to enjoy more plain and subdued flavours like vanilla over stronger flavours like chocolate.

There's an option to add $28 for a combo, i.e. half-boiled egg + salad + soft drinks. The soup is very concentrated and salty but filled with the smell of truffles which is very pleasant. The chewiness of noodles was alright though my personal preference is to be more softer (I am too lazy to chew). The ramen also goes with two pieces of meat which is tender to eat. I have also tried a spoon of my frd's ramen soup. Hers was fish bone soup, having s sense of freshness which is nice too.

Tasted exactly like in the old days, this is the kind of fried chicken that is pure HK style, no batter or and crumbs on the outside, it was just marinated and put into the deep fryer, the skin could have been a bit more crispy, but I am not complaining too much as the store may be closing down any time as the original owner retires!!

I firstly tried their signature Mixed Ban Mi, the baguette was crunchy outside, the filling with sweet and sour pickles, green veggie and some sliced preserved Vietnamese meatball were juicy & impressive. Also the rice paper rolls was absolutely amazing. And the hot soup noodle was equally good. I was told the store is managed by Vietnamese lady so no surprise they prepared it in a authentic way. And, they are charging a super reasonable price with nice service. When I left the store, I can see a queue lining up for seats so the food quality is confirmed.
