So without hesitation ordered a Pineapple Bun with Butter, and I am happy to report it is as good as they advertised! I've had a variety of their signature biang biang noodles, such as spare ribs, beef and leek dumplings, and lamb dumplings. I would definitely go with one of the dumplings. Both were very flavorful and juicy on the inside. Although the thick, flat noodles are hard to share because it's one long piece, I love the texture of them. I think they're the perfect amount of chewy and compliment the spices perfectly. Aside from the signature biang biang noodles, I've had their cold noodles with sesame sauce. This is also a favorite of mine at Yau Yuen Siu Tsui. The noodles are thinner, but still have an amazing texture to them. They're not soft and soggy, very chewy. The sauce also hits just the right amount of spice. Their appetizers are also very unique. We've had their grass jelly with peanut sauce and shredded lotus roots. The grass jelly had a wasabi element to it where the spice goes up your nose so I wasn't that big of a fan. The shredded lotus roots were fantastic though! They were cooked perfectly so that there's still a crunchy to them but not too hard. Although small, this place still get really crowded and so the service can be kind of slow but I enjoy it because that means you don't have to rush through the meal. The only thing that might give Yau Yuen Siu Tsui a ding on points is their location. It's not particularly convenient to get to.

Then for the entree, I was recommended to get the biang biang noodles, which are thicker and wider noodles compared to many other types of Chinese noodles. I got it with dumplings. The dumplings and noodles don't come in a soup, but it does have some spicy chili to go with it that tastes really good. I like the unique flavor and noodle texture. They have very nice decorations in there as well. From what I hear, they were previously at a smaller spot and relocated here. Glad they moved to this bigger spot so more people could dine in. Highly recommend this place!

I was excited to try Mak's for the very first time. Besides the quick and friendlier service, the space is well air conditioned and while cramped, the pros outweighs any of the cons. The signature wonton noodles were the best I have had and the quality really shows. Each bite of the shrimp wontons tasted crisp and fresh while the delicate wrapper held the full shrimp tightly and neatly. The shrimp itself was cooked to perfection and did not have any mushy texture nor overcooked chew. The noodles were as springy as ever and definitely tasted as much as they were worth. The broth was the clear winner whether or not you're the type to add some red vinegar or not. It is a broth with clear depth and flavor that does not overwhelm the tastebuds, nor send them to monosodium glutamate shock. It was such a great meal, I am already looking to enjoy another bowl sooner than later. And of course, for all the non-seafood lovers out there, the beef brisket noodles are just as worthy. Also, this spot serves free tea, no tea charge!

I did have my hesitation when I walked into the empty restaurant. There was no one there and only another table of 2 shown up while we were dining here. Apparently they are really busy during lunch hours with all the commercial offices in the area. That is a little reassuring. We ordered congee and noodle (since this place is call congee and noodle, duh!) We really enjoyed the food here! The congee had this silky base and the wonton noodle was nice and chewy. Price is reasonable for a Michelin recommended restaurant but one might argue that it is a little more than other local places a short walk away.

So Congee and Noodle Shop became my venue of choice during my sick day. This shop has been "Michelin-recommended" so it seems to have some quality assurance, surprising thing is that whenever I go during lunchtime, there are always seats available. Guess congee isn't such a popular choice. The variety is wide though - you can get the traditional ones like what I had, Century Egg and Pork congee, to creative ones like Bitter Melon and Beef Congee or luxurious choices like Abalone and Chicken Congee. I've been a couple times and the quality is indeed consistently decent. Besides congee, they serve Guangdong style noodles, which I think is about average, and surprise, Claypot Rice! Apparently their rice is what earned them the holler from the Michelin people. I will have to take a look. Also, the seating and decor is more upscale than usual for a Congee and Noodle place, and thanks to the eternally available tables, it makes for a surprisingly decent place to have a lunch conversation.

It is because the cheung fun was pretty darn good - way better than anything I can get back home. And the glutinous rice bowl? The best taste and texture in a glutinous rice I've ever had. This is a three generation business that just churns out good food. Currently run by second generation, Ng Siu-Fung, and with sons and other family members involved in the business, Keung Kee has been in the community for 70 + years and plans to be century old institution that puts out representative Hong Kong snack food. Yes, this is a snack shop, not a bing sutt, not a cha chaan teng, and certainly not a restaurant. They started as a street food cart selling only snacks. Their non-soup or congee dishes are still modestly sized for one person. Now, one of their signature dishes is glutinous rice in a bowl with lap cheong and lap mei, some mushrooms, and a sweet sauce. Thai Golden Phoenix glutinous rice, soaked and double boiled, and prepared slightly differently than straight stir frying. The rice texture comes from a combination of new and old cooked glutinous rice - very moist yet satisfyingly chewy. And the stir fried nuggets of cheung fun with dried shrimp are addicting. Adding soft scrambled egg makes it even harder to share. The Keung Kee name is not unique. There is a dai pai dong and roasted meat shop with the same name. Make sure you go to Lockhart, not elsewhere, and go into the one the new golden lettered sign!

It's probably because they can -- they've been awarded a Michelin recommendation. To be fair, they have quite a few items that are very good. Their cheung fun has got the right consistency, easy to slurp with the sauces that they came with, yet can still be picked up with a wooden stick. The lo mai fan (fried glutinous rice) is fragrant, fried to perfection, with the seasoning distributed evenly all over. I quite like their sweet dessert soups as well! It's not as common to find the sweet yuba dessert soup anymore, and it's a must get for me. If you like anything with beans, the zha zha is nicely done too. I regularly get a large order to go just to share with my family across the harbour; it's that good. The service is... Hong Kong style. As long as you try hard to not get in the way you'll be fine.

It wasn't terribly busy and it was quite the experience for my wife who doesn't care much for tofu. The price is reasonable and on a hot day this is just the kind of dessert to rehydrate and keep you going :) Since Big Buddha is a bit of a tourist trap and many shops charge tourist prices, I would recommend trying this place -- it's where the locals will be!

And I haven't had this kind of noodles in a while which to me was very comforting. And the noodles costs only hkd 58 each (about 6 usd, what?!). The service was great. Staff was friendly. It wasn't packed so we could take our time to enjoy our lunch. I also like the "old hk" decor. There are quite a few restaurants in Heath Hong Kong but I'd recommend not to miss Six's Noodles :)
