One of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong, and for good reason! This is the oldest funicular in the city (running since 1888) and the classic way to get up to Victoria Peak for those insane views of the skyline and Victoria Harbour, especially stunning at night when everything lights up. We went in the evening and the ride itself is super fun, super steep climb with that cool optical illusion where the buildings look like they're leaning. Lines can be long (it's tourist central), but they move pretty fast and it's totally worth the wait. Such a great way to experience a bit of old Hong Kong history while getting the best vantage point over the modern city. Highly recommend taking the tram if you're visiting, you gotta do it at least once!

The peak tram is worth it to view the skyline of Hong Kong but the line can be over an hour, be prepared It is also worth comparing different websites to see who sells the cheaper ticket

We took an uber up to the peak and then rode the tram down back into town. It was interesting as we were riding backwards downhill. Briefly saw some nice views and then it was a quick ride down. Not expensive either!

The Peak Tram / Central (Hong Kong) -- It was OK. Yeah, just OK. For a six-minute ride, I shouldn't be too demanding. It was the 25 minutes before the ride that had me whining. After walking about an hour on already hilly terrain from our hotel, Jamie W and I just missed the tram and waited behind a dark portal. No one from the tram company was present, so swarms of tourist families felt fine shoving us against the door. It was like a scene from "Soylent Green" where people from a different culture find aggressive behavior a necessary way of life. Of course, when the doors opened, they pushed us aside to get to the top of the platform. When the tram arrived, it was the first time we saw the renovated carriages with the panoramic windows. We sat on the righthand side for the better views. The trip ended with another stampede through the tacky souvenir area. The HK$61 we paid for the Special Combo struck us as a bit on the high side but probably not by Hong Kong standards. It included a round trip ticket on the tram plus access to Sky Terrace 428 (Peak Tower). Granted the tower provides the best view for skyline photos, you can alternatively bypass the overcrowded tram by hiking up Victoria Peak for an hour. I think we'll do that next time. Beats being elbowed by me-first tourists. RELATED - Exploring Hong Kong? Here's my collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3AGgadg

There's a separate pre-purchased ticket line that terminates at the ticket counter. So it could save you time from waiting in line to buy a ticket. But both pre-purchased ticket holders and on the spot purchases merge at the ticket counter. From there it's a two-car wait until you can board. Once before they open the doors to the tram area. And then again waiting in line at the tram embarkation. Ride up isn't anything special if you've been on funiculars before. But it's a must do in Hong Kong for visitors.

A "must see" tourist stop, Victoria Peak and the Peak Tram are good stops for first-timers but lack repeat interest. Offering some of the best and easily reachable views above Hong Kong, Victoria Peak is most often reached through the tram train. Tickets are available on site but you'd be wise to skip the line and get tickets through something like Klook. This gives you a QR code that you can use to skip straight into the loading line. The new renovated tram cars are clean, load well, and hold a lot of people. Going up, sit on the right. Going down, sit on the left. That gives you a view of HK on the way. At the top, take in the views. There are a lot of tourist shops with tourist pricing. Yes, you could walk up or take a taxi to the peak. And yes, there is a free viewing area next door instead of the paid Sky Terrace 428 but the package really isn't that much and offer a one time convenient experience.

Getting to the top it's a very short, but beautiful journey. I'm so happy that I was able to see Victoria Peak. I strongly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to take it. But this review doesn't do much the world will tell you the same. So take a chance and check out the beautiful bay of Hong Kong.

Very fun experience! There is a shopping mall and greats viewpoint when you get to the top! Highly recommend for there coming here for the first time!

We rode the tram on a Sunday at 8am and had a really great experience! The view from the top of Victoria Peak is amazing, as well. The ride lasts about 10 minutes and is very steep in some spots!

This is a must visit in Hong Kong. But, be sure to learn the history before going. Otherwise it is just a high angle ride. Some useful tips: Get an Octopus Card. This transit card can be used almost everywhere in HK. But, for the Peak Tram, there is a separate faster queue for Octopus Card holders. Every local has an Octopus card. You can get them at MTR stations, 7-11 stores and other places. Sit on the right going up. The view is better. Look out from the viewing area by the Burger King. No need to pay for the roof. Take the bus down. The bus station is under the shopping mall. The "Peak Experience" bus shows you many vistas and interesting homes. In some ways, it is more interesting than the tram. Again, try to sit on the right (driver side).

Wowwww!! I loved it!! Fresh off the flight with my boyfriend and we headed here first. It was so so so nice!! It seems like they remodeled everything and the train literally goes like straight up it's ridiculous. It's kinda scary actually. It's like a roller coaster but sloth lol. Like slow motion but X at six flags lolll. I did get motion sickness but it was all worth it. The view at the peak, speechless.

I don't get why people are bitching about the cost. This is a touristy mode of transportation to sight-see. It's not an ordinary form of transportation. Compared to any funicular in Switzerland or any aerial tram stateside this is a bargain at HK$88 or about US$11. It's a must do activity in HK, which has possibly the most impressive skyline in the world. The new rail cars installed in 2021 are a massive improvement in comfort over the old cars and provide better views as a result of the panoramic windows in the ceiling.

This is a very old (late 1800s) and historic cable car that takes you from the Central area to the top of Victoria Peak. The only annoying thing was that the line to go on the tram was very long, even on a late afternoon on a weekday. Once we got on though, it was a very cool and quick ride to the top. You don't really get good views from the tram, because the sides of it are mostly covered by trees and buildings - it is not an aerial tram. However, the view is waiting for you when you get to the top. The tram was surprisingly fast and moves at a very steep angle. If you have to stand, be prepared to hold on tight.

The MTR, Hong Kong's mass transit rail system, is a world class transportation wonder. It's…read moreextremely efficient, extremely widespread as a metropolis-wide network, very clean, and also very economical. The fares vary by distance, but many of our one way fares were in the range of only $0.60 USD to $0.90 USD. We used it numerous times, and I don't think we waited more than 5 minutes for a train to arrive. Often, it came quicker than some waits we had for the hotel elevators lol. The MTR stations are everywhere in the Hong Kong area, and you never seem to have to walk very far to get to one. There is an MTR station at virtually every major mall in the Hong Kong vicinity. An Octopus card can be loaded into your Apple wallet and a nod of your smartphone at their smart turnstiles will get you in or out of a station effortlessly. When our trip was completed, I applied via the Octopus app for a refund of our unused balances, and instead of the stated 6-8 weeks wait, the refund showed up in my checking account in 2 days! Each train of maybe 8-10 long cars had one car dedicated to first class. For grins, we tried it once for a short ride. First class is very comfortable with bigger seats, like on a comfortable bus coach, and there is never a need to stand, which is often the case with regular MTR rides. The fare is about 2-3x that of the regular fare. It's an option but not really something most consumers would opt for. Overall, I was just as extremely impressed with the system today as I was 32 years ago when I first encountered it.

Here's my pro tips: Get an Octopus Card. Good for fares and almost anything else. Trust. Remember what entry and exit you need to use at each station. They are lettered A - ? and there might be 12 or more! Be prepared to walk a bit inside the station. It's not like New York or The Bay. The stations are as big if not bigger than Grand Central Station. It's very safe. Just understand that it may be crowded. Oh, if you're going to Kowloon and you have time, take the Star Ferry!

My hubby suggested to take the Star Ferry instead of MTR. The ride was smooth, relaxing, and offered beautiful views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline along the way. It is a rare example of a systems that is run exclusively with double decker trams. It is one of the earliest forms of public transportation in Hong Kong. The trams have been running since 1904 when they were still under British rule. It cost 10 cents for a first class fare and 5 cents for a third class fare when they opened. Today the trams are wrapped up in history and advertising. Loved the ride on the tram. Our guide, Raymond from MyHKTours, gave us $12 HKD in coins and carefully walked our party of 4 to the station in the median between two lanes of traffic. Boarded through the old fashioned metal turnstile and climbed the stairs to the second level. Exit at the end where the tram makes a loop were our directions. The trams are so cute. Rows of wooden seats. One seat on the left. Two on the right. Headed to the front seat when one opened up to enjoy the views on the slow moving tram. Enjoyed a beautiful afternoon and the ever changing neighborhoods. Healthy Village. Quarry Bay. Kornhill Garden. Tai Koo. Lei King Wan. Felicity Garden. Sai Wan Ho. Exited at Shau Kei Wan stop where the trams turn around. What a great way to experience Hong Kong. The fare is just $3 HKD per adult and $1.5 HKD for seniors and kids. Price fixed per ride. Drop the coins in the metal box when you exit. So much fun.
