A local artist had spent six years creating 12 panels of 3D artwork celebrating daily scenes in Hong Kong - from construction workers laying out a striped tarp with towering skyscrapers as the backdrop to gloved-workers bringing out the mandarin bushes in a crowded intersection. Unbeknown to my friends and me, the lively artwork had been at the station since early 2017. We were pleasantly surprised to come across the colorful depictions of Hong Kong life on a random evening, and we had a blast looking at them. I'd recommend anyone in the area to check them out.

Never making that mistake again! If you're closer to the harbour like me, all you have to do is walk over to the A2 entrance/exit located on Des Voeux Road West, between Eastern and Wilmer streets. Keep in mind, this station covers an expansive section of real estate, which means you'll walk for a bit to get to the trains and the escalators are the super long ones. Not sure if this is a forever feature, but there are attendants near the C entrance/exit at Bonham Rd, who guide you up and down the elevators... take a breath and relax on them, cause they're driving! All you have to do is follow their directive to a waiting elevator. Being brand new, this station is gloriously clean and at times, eerily empty. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Whatever the case, it's great to finally have a dedicated station to HK's most recognized university. What's important to highlight is that it is modern and supremely clean. The walls are spotless, the bathrooms are cutting edge, and even the info booths look as if in fingerprint free windows. There aren't a lot of exits at the station, which makes it super easy to navigate and there are elevators aplenty. For being the biggest station, it doesn't feel windy or hilly like some others and is fully air conditioned during all hours. Even during the rush hour of the morning, the station never feels too busy. It could be due to the fewer folks on the west side of the island, but I've really never had to deal with crowds like some of the other popular stops along this line. Despite the lack of rush hour crowds, the attendants are still at this station directing people traffic like no other. In all, I look forward to stopping at HKU. It reflects the quiet nature of the neighborhood and will hopefully maintain that "new car smell" for the new few years.
