Needed to try the famous Mammy egg waffle while in HK. We ordered 3 flavors - original, Earl Grey, and white sesame. Lots of customers, so it took about 30 minutes for our order to be ready. Estimated wait time is listed at the counter. They each arrived in their own separate boxes and could really smell the Earl Grey one. The flavors of the Earl Grey and sesame really came through. They were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. So good and definitely worth the try.

i feel traitorous saying this but i'm not the biggest fan of hk-style egg waffles usually. they tend to be extremely un-sweet to the point of being bland and a little too chewy. but it's been years since i had one when we came across this branch of mammy's pancake, and the place was michelin-recommended, so why not? we ordered a chocolate filled egg waffle per the nice shop lady's recommendation. these were good! very fresh and fluffy and the chocolate filling was great. that said, even shared between 2 people, the egg waffle got a little tiring to eat by the end. but they're still probably one of the better representations of the egg waffle.

Best bubble waffles hands down! Made to order so you have to wait, but it's so worth it. It was warm, crispy outside & soft inside. Friendly service & it was by the temple street market.

I have to say this is my first bubbly, egg waffle thing I have had since moving to Hong Kong (not sure of the official word for it, so I am going to call it this!). You Asian folks love your carbohydrate, bread based snacks and this pancake is no exception. I love it though! I had the bubbly waffle thing with the chocolate chips. It tastes like a pancake, but more dense with a crispier outside to it. So fun, delicious and easy to eat. It is a walk up/grab and go place, so no seats. I am sure it is this way at all Mammy Pancake locations around Hong Kong. Staff was friendly and bright decor in their branding made it easy to spot on the street. They make your waffle or bubbly egg waffle thing fresh right there, so it is hot and fresh. It took about 5-10 minutes for them to make it, so be prepared for a little wait. Maybe even more so if they are busy already with customers.

Matcha Egg Waffle w/ Chocolate Chips

BEST HK Egg Waffle i've ever had! The first time I had an egg waffles they were from Quickly's (a boba chain). I've had a few in SoCal too that you can fill with mochi or chocolate, etc. And a few days ago when we first arrived we tried a place a few shops down from our hotel which was good but too crispy and thin on the outside and not soft and chewy enough on the inside for my taste. But THIS egg waffle from Mammy Pancake... Perfect. We ordered the Green Tea Waffle filled with Chocolate Chips and it was amaaazing! Perfectly crisp on the outside but firm enough to not crumble apart in your fingers, just the right about to chewiness on the inside, and sweet and chocolatey from just the right amount of chocolate chips. My aunt recommend this shop to us and i'm glad we stumbled across it while roaming the streets. They also had red bean filling which sounds equally delicious. 10/10 would definitely recommend you looking up the nearest Mammy Pancake locations near you and going!

Mammy Pancake is cool because of all the different flavors and fillings that you can choose from! I enjoyed my egg waffle from here but I think that the small street-side shops are even better! Nonetheless, Mammy Pancake has a great selection of different egg waffles!

The best, I repeat, THE BEST, egg puff waffle I've ever tasted!! I've been here twice in the past few weeks because I'm that obsessed. The shop is a tiny stand and has quite a few locations throughout Hong Kong. They make the waffles fresh so it does take about ten minutes for it to be prepared. They also have a plethora of flavors to choose from, such as banana chocolate, matcha red bean, white sesame, and more! I ordered the one with chocolate chips the first time and earl grey with chocolate chips the second. The waffles here have a crispy exterior and the inside is chewy and delicious, having a similar texture to mochi. It's so so good. The chocolate chip one was my favorite since the earl grey flavor was a little too strong, but that's just my preference. Stop by this godly egg waffle spot and you'll never see them the same again!!

Like the selection of Egg Puffs here. Went with the Matcha puffs. Came out piping hot and with a perfect green tea taste. They were so good I went back and ordered a 2nd one :P I've had egg puffs back in the US but they just taste better here

I encountered bubble waffles in London this summer and fell in love immediately. At Mommys you can chose between sweet and non sweet versions. Some of them come with custard or cheese, some with chocolate. I picked a matcha one filled with red beans. As the waffles are made freshly you have to wait a bit until you can call this warm and well smelling thing your own. It was crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside with lots of matcha taste. Wow. Unfortunately they make you really full so I couldn't eat more than one.

Chris Y.

Very crispy compared to the ones in the 626/SGV area restaurants. I didn't know there was so many flavors to choose from but I just stuck with the original flavor. Overall it's cheap but the line can be a long one if you visit at night.

TianChee S.

It was 3.5 for me here. Maybe I don't appreciate these kind of desserts as much but their Egg waffles seemed to lack much flavor as I was expecting. It was maybe too much on the bland side. Was expecting more buttery flavor or more sweet. I also tried their Egg waffle sandwich which contained peanut butter I believe and it was decent. There was a decent flow of customers coming here so I'm sure it's decent. Be sure to eat these right away as they are known to only taste good when consumed immediately. It won't taste as good later as you will lose the freshness and crispy texture over time.

Seeing that this place was on the Michelin guide.. I had to come try. Certainly, Mammy did not disappoint. We got the 2 Hong Kong waffles to begin with, and it was so delicious we had to get two more to go. The classic - the classic is always a must try. Crispy where it was needed on the outside, and soft and fluffy where the bubbles are. Not too dry, and contains a soft subtle sweet flavor. Not to overwhelming, not too bland. A great balance. Matcha with vanilla ice cream - normally served with two scoops of ice cream but I opted for one. Instant regret when I took my first bite. The ice cream itself was delicious! Creamy with a hint of caramel that really complemented the waffle. Hot and cold.. a great combination, like having a hot brownie served with ice cream. The matcha flavor was there, and thank goodness it was not grainy. The ice cream was a good choice since this waffle was not too sweet so the ice cream made up for it. In the end it allowed a good balance since the the combination together was not too sweet. We ended ordering the preserved egg yolk waffles and another order of the classic to go. It was that good. While I thought the egg yolk waffles were ok, it was the top flavor. Maybe because I'm from the states so the flavor was a little different for me. Of course, it was something new and interesting. A combination of salty and sweet, with the texture of the persevered egg yolk was a new flavor. Not bad. But can't wait to come back.

18hkd for original flavor

They have four types of egg waffles (original, taro, chocolate and sesame coconut) and a peanut butter waffle. - Original egg ball ($18 HKD) - I shared this with a friend. Like how they're made fresh here and had good turnover. Original is pretty good (but I liked the flavoured one more that I sampled). Would go back to try the other flavours. Cheap, tasty snack.

Their casual take on HK Cafe style food is decent option for this part of the neighborhood. As I understand it, the owners are among the 4th or 5th ones to have occupied this space from the original "Big John." The menu has changed here and there over the years, but has remained steady on providing a little bit of western flair and lots of Hong Kong Cafe stuff to boot. Their claim to fame has been their signature waffle, which is caked in peanut butter, condensed milk, and actual butter. It's kind of like the loaded waffles from the street side eggettes, but dare I say better. I would literally come here for this single item even though it's incredibly sweet and creamy. The rest of the food is pretty typical HK stuff, from congee to noodle soups. Their take on western food is pretty hilarious, such as their $32 hot dog or or fish and chips (dubbed "fried fish fillet with french fries" on the English menu) or their similarly priced "corned beef & egg toastie." "The Big Breakfast" was a laughable plate of scrambled eggs with a hot dog, some bacon, and what looked potato salad. Any westerner would look at this breakfast with an eyelid raised. Don't come here with a group and don't expect stellar service. When dining in, it's improtant to shoot for a small (hell, they're all small) meal or better just eat the waffle with a iced milk tea and call it a day.

So do you like puppies?? Do you like comfort food?? What do these have in common? I have no idea!…read more But at Big Johns, you can look at pictures of puppies while you inhale your comfort food! This place is your epitome of a "hole in the wall" and I love it! Sit next to the local slurping their porridge or sit next to me inhaling a waffle! We probably would not have tried this gem if it wasn't for our friend recommending it. Heck, we couldn't even find it on our first try because it's that small. IF you miss their front door, well you will be wandering around a little. Hubby and I have come here a few times for breakfast and it's literally quite enchanting and...well, different. It's like a diner but really, it's served up cafeteria style. While it's far from 5 star Michelin dining it totally works for those who want to sit down, grab a breakfast (or lunch or dinner, although we have only been here for breakfast, it was super efficient, inexpensive and good. While it was hard to initially get over trying to decide what puppy was the cutest or what I should have for breakfast, my second try was much quicker. Since I was dying for a western style breakfast....think eggs, waffles, toast...anything but noodles. The ordering takes place at the back of the restaurant. You stand in line and place your order. You pay, and a number is given to you. Then you take a seat along with wall. A few minutes later a man will bring you your food on a tray when he sees your number. The place has awesome turnover. When I say efficient, it is! I guess most places are like sit down, eat and get out. This was no exception! Seeing pictures of waffles was like...yesssss! I ordered their (C) Half waffle with sausage, egg for $29 HKD or $3.74 USD. It also came with coffee. I liked the waffle very much. Perfectly cooked with a little crisp on the outside, smeared with peanut butter and condensed milk? I guess they don't do syrup but it still was yummy. I learned what sausage was...aka hot dog. But ohh well, I was full after eating everything and for the price! Wow! Hubby had their (1) Big John #4 with scrambled egg with bacon, sausage and mushroom, 2 pieces of toast, coffee and juice for $36 HKD or $4.64 USD. He was stuffed and said he could eat this everyday! While I'd have to say, Big Johns, you are a bit strange...I do like you... and your puppies! I'm sure we'll definitely be back! I feel like I should go find a few puppies to pet after eating here. But anyone who is a dog lover is friend of mine! Now, about that name...

We ordered their fresh fruit tea, lemon spritzer, and some other pomelo fruit concoction. All very very tasty. For lunch we ordered 3 types of sandwiches. One was their BBQ pork sandwich, one was a chicken sandwich, and a pizza toast. The BBQ pork was more like ham and nothing barbecue about it. The sandwich was drowning in their mustard sauce. They put too much and also smothered their potato salad in the sauce as well. The chicken sandwich was marinated in a Thai basil kinda dressing. Way too salty! The first few bites were ok but towards the end, just tasted salt. The pizza toast was yummy. It took a little longer to come out than the other food. I'm not sure if the HDF menu is completely available here, but what they do have is simple array of sandwiches and soups, making this spot a reliable lunch option. Most of the people I've seen here are mall employees. It may be just my funny timing as I'm here during non-peak hours, but my guess is the price (60HKD and under) and mellow atmosphere is fitting a quick lunch getaway. As a result there are a lot of solo diners here and open seating for all. They do accept Octopus card for payment, but no credit cards. Put in your order at the front and take a number. Find a seat inside, as there is better WiFI signal and actual ventilation. People watching is a given, but the traffic here is limited. There are utensils, napkins, and water, all available for self-service. The wait staff does a lot of standing around, which is sadly expected. Glad to report the food is pretty decent overall. I have had good results with the breakfast, particularly the Hokkaido Breakfast ($32HKD), which allows for a combination of the sandwich and macaroni set. I personally think the Jumbo Mix Tomato Set ($50HKD) is a great deal. It comes with toast, ham, eggs, and a nice bowl of noodles with minced meat and sausage. One can certainly shoot for the Japanese combinations, but I've had mixed results with the rice bowls, udon, and curry. And if there is any opportunity to rock a waffle, this would be recommended. I'm not a fan of the infamous Hokkaido milk ($8HKD), but their lemon teas ($5HKD) are definitely the bomb. This is not a destination HDF, but a convenient one if HDF cravings come about while shopping at Silvercord.
