Had a hunger pang late at night so swung by here as the well lit space with wide open doors was inviting. The food was mediocre but the staff was jovial and friendly and made good banter in regards to the other late night customers. It's certainly an interesting spot for people watching as there are the stereotypical typecasts that come in after their late nights and let their drama unfold. It's decently priced, the folks are friendly, and the food is ok. If you want a simple and quick sit down spot this will certainly do. Otherwise you'd probably be equally satisfied at any of the other neighboring snack shacks.

After numerous beers in the Wan Chai area, this place is like a glittering beacon of hope. Food for the drunk masses and late night crowds, there is something about roast meats after a belly full of liquor! I can't say that the roast meats here are fantastic but they do their job and hit the spot. I would rather a plate of roast duck/goose/suckling pig anyday over the standard western fare of burgers, pizza or kebabs! The walls to this place are covered in photos of the menu so those who don't speak the lingo can easily order by merely pointing!

A little floundered by all of the 2-star reviews...but hay! Everyone gets to give their 2-cents. We came here for dinner after a day down by the water as my friend used to live in this neighborhood. It was her jam. And I can see why! We shared the shrimp wonton noodle soup, some veggie fried rice and the roasted bbq pork and duck. Honestly, it all just hit the spot. With a splash of chili oil, that wonton noodle soup was perfect. And the bbq meats were done just right. Not too fatty, not overcooked, just straight up comfort, this is what I have been craving Hong Kong bbq. Cash only, if I recall.

Hay Hay Kitchen is an authentic Hong Kong style roast meats cafe/restaurant. These roast meats restaurants are fairly common, you'll probably seen load of them all across Hong Kong, displaying their roasted goodness in the shop window. Personally, I think Hay Hay Kitchen is probably one of the safer bets in Hong Kong, especially if you are a non-Chinese speaking expat or visitor. The menu is fairly standard, of course the most popular dishes are the hanging roasted meats in the window. For significantly less than HK$100, you can have three types of roast meats, with some vegetables and a good dose of rice, and a couple of beers, and still be less than HK$100. Other delights on the menu include noodle dishes, fried rice dishes, vegetables, and pretty much anything fried with Spam and eggs. This particular Hay Hay Kitchen (there are any few dotted around Hong Kong) also occasionally serves the clay hot-pot dishes. You will see when they're doing this, as there is a man cooking these outside the storefront. Lunchtimes at this branch are crazy, with queues extending right into the street. If it is this busy, you can queue up and share a table with someone, or just plump for takeout, and go and sit in Southorn Gardens. Dinner times are a bit more reasonable, but it can still get busy, so maybe engineer your dining time to be a little bit later. What I do love about this restaurant though, is the late opening time, which means you can grab a fairly good late night snack after bar-hopping in Wan Chai, without having to resort to the chain burger shops. Give it a go if you're feeling brave; don't forget to rinse your cutlery, and never look in the kitchen. Also, with this particular branch, do not, under any circumstance, use the outside toilet. Wait until you get to a nice bar and use the facilities there - you will thank me for it.

But for me it's different. A Hong Kong cafe is like heaven for a stoner who has the munchies (just to make it clear, I've never been stoned. At least not for a long time!) But I do see the appeal for someone with these cravings. Everything comes with gravy or some type of tomato sauce. They make Coke Cola ice creams floats. French toast squares with ice cream. Funky right? But we ordered: Baked Pork Chop: this was a decent version. I think one more pork chop in the entree would have made it complete. The tomato sauce with the rice was a nice blend. Mixed grill: this was my wife's entree and she didn't like it much. She said it was ok. Flat noodles: that's what it's called in the menu but I know it as Chow Fun. I always like this dish and Kam Kee makes it decent. Service was proficient and friendly. My wife said it's a three star eatery but what takes this place into four category is they put effort into the design or ambience of the cafe whereas many places don't invest in that. It's a nice looking restaurant with decently satisfying comfort food.

The milk tea was very good. Gave 3 stars as the beef was a bit chewy. Chicken would have been better.

This place is a little hard to find because you have to walk all the way to the end of a street with a dead end and it's hidden in the corner. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. The service was pretty good by Hong Kong standards. I ordered the scramble eggs with BBQ pork over rice and it came out in less than ten minutes! The dish looked amazing and the portion was pretty big, although I had no trouble finishing the whole thing. Hong Kong's scrambled eggs are on some other level. This spot makes them runny, and although I usually don't like my eggs runny, they tasted pretty amazing here. Doused with sweet, light soy sauce and succulent pieces of famous Chinese BBQ pork on a bed of rice, this was definitely one of the most comforting and satisfying meals here. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area! I have a new love for scrambled eggs :)

The creamy chicken macaroni soup with ham and abalone strips (and side of soft eggs with toast) made me feel like a kid again. The beef and egg sandwich, and spam and egg sandwich were exactly as expected; they came out hot and fast and in generous portions. Drinks were great too, especially the lemon tea served with real citrus slices (both hot and iced were solid), and the milk tea was as authentic as it gets. Value felt fair for the area. From the menu, tea/breakfast-style sets sit around HK$40-46, lunch plates are roughly HK$52-64, and most drinks are in the HK$18-24 range (with a few around HK$26-28), so you can order a full spread without the bill getting out of hand. Good to know: they only accept cash and Octopus, so don't count on credit cards. Overall, an easy 4 stars for a dependable, grounding first stop.

Although it was busy on my first visit, it didn't feel overwhelming, nor did I feel rushed and herded by staff. Orders are done through the QR code on the table, but my phone service was wonky that day and one of the employees was very nice and took my order. That did lead me to panic ordering the HOTTEST egg toast, but that's my own fault and I surely paid the consequence. I like spicy food, but that lacked flavor and only burned. They have a big menu, including vegetarian options and famous HK bakery items like egg tarts and pineapple bread. The regular egg toast is delicious, a heaping serving of creamy eggs over thick toast. Then of course I had to try the famous Hong Kong Milk tea, which was also delicious. It's made with a full bodied black tea and has a rich earthy flavor. No sugar added so it's not sweet unless you make it so. When I was finished, I paid at the register and was on my way.

We got a char siu macaroni soup, bolo bao, and truffle scrambled egg toast. There was a lot of egg on the toast but the truffle tasted more like a dark chocolate crumble? Not sure if that's what it was supposed to be but still appetizing. Macaroni soup was delicious. I just enjoy pasta in soup. Lol. The bolo bao was a bit of a disappointment due to the bread being cold. I don't know if there was an option to just tell them we wanted it hot. Also ordered Hong Kong milk tea but the waiter misheard even though he repeated it and sent a sweet tea instead. Not bad for a comfort food spot.

Hong Kong Cafes with a noodle focus almost always end up being my preferred places to chow down…read more Chui Hing (潮興魚蛋粉) is combines no nonsense service with killer food, along with affordable pricing and 24 hour availability to boot. The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

The wontons are ok, beef balls are good, noodles are good, soup okay. The milk tea wasn't very strong but has a nice authentic back flavor. Everything was ready in under 5 minutes. Very good for takeout!
