Arguably one of my favourite Chinese desserts (along with tofu pudding... there's clearly a theme here). It's sweet. It's spoonful after spoonful of milky goodness without the heaviness of cream. And it goes down sooo easily because it's silky smooth. Tea with milk was also very good! I believe it's red tea with milk ??? But it's nothing like traditional HK milk tea! The steamed and chilled Milk Pudding had a mild and perfect sweetness and this really nice skin on top with a satisfying texture. Get this! Then the HK-style French Toast reminded me of the kind Denny's used to have for kids in the 80s but 20 times better! They were addictively eggy, buttery, and slightly sweet. Then the Macaroni and Ham had super mild flavors that could be comforting, but I wouldn't get it again. The Milk Pudding and French Toast were the shining stars. You can have it either cold or hot depending on your mood. The best part is the thick chewy skin that has formed on the top of the pudding. The pineapple bun was kind of dense and dry, even with the slab of butter. The egg tarts were also dry with a plain-tasting custard. The coffee milk tea was fine but we didn't realize until visiting another cha chaang teng that hot usually means unsweetened. And the scrambled eggs were so plain...I just remember cha chaang teng scrambled eggs being super silky and creamy. This was just disappointing and I didn't need to order normal, regular-tasting scrambled eggs. They're saving grace is how cheap everything was. For that price, it just felt like we got what we paid for...lower quality food. I was very confused because I feel like I read a lot of raving reviews about this place so maybe we visited on an off day. But out of every place we tried, this was pretty low on our list.
