Le Petit Saigon - Pork banh mi

I have been here twice and have both times ordered the pork which is traditional version of the sandwich. They also have some interesting drink choices which are all Vietnamese. You can order a Vietnamese beer to go with your sandwich, line soda, or a Vietnamese coffee. The banh mi here is very good. The french bread is on point. The pate has a nice creamy texture and is not gamy. They put scallions in there sandwich. I enjoyed it but this may not be for everyone. If I wrote this review after my first visit I would say that this is the best banh mi O have had in Hon Kong. However, the second time around the bread wasn't as fresh and didn't have the crunchy exterior that I hope for in a baguette. This is probably because I had the sandwich close to dinner time. I will definitely come back when I am craving a banh mi.

Their Pho Banh mi is off the chain!!!!! The sauce they use is amaze balls and if you like lime in your pho, thats basically what its like! They also had a pho poutine on special... which was to die for. Many of my die hard food friends from SF came here and loved this place too. Try the restaurant next door too for really good intricate vietnamese food!

Banh Mi in Hong Kong isn't good, unless its from here. I'm sad to say that I don't know the name…read moreof it in English. This place is truly a diamond in the rough. Located next to laundromats and car shops, this place is hard to find. Surprisingly, there are no lines out the door to purchase a little paper wrapped bundle of goodness. Banh Mi, is a vietnamese sandwich that includes vietnamese cold cuts, vietnamese sausages, pickled carrots, cilantro and a few more secret ingredients all in between a light airy baguette toasted to perfection. My love for these bad boys started in the states. Coming to Hong Kong, I struggled to find a place that did it right. Other places would have really doughy baguettes, or they would throw in some Chinese ingredients to make it more marketable to locals? I'm not sure, but whatever it is, it ain't good. A friend brought me here after hearing me go on and on about how a perfect Banh Mi is supposed to taste like. THANK GOODNESS!!! There are only two people that work in this little shop. Aside from sandwiches, they also sell some dried Vietnamese goods. You will find Pho noodles ready to be made. You can also find some special flavored instant noodles to try at home. Some people have raved about their garlic bread as well but I have yet to try. Drinks are available too, but not a large variety. There are two stools for those who want to eat there. The ambiance isn't too great, but I guess some like to eat the sandwich right away...I don't blame them. =)

I have passed by this place numerous times while walking my dog, and finally stopped in to give it a try. There are only 2 stools in the whole restaurant, so it's great for a meal on the go. Tim Kee specialize in making Vietnamese bahn mi sandwiches. It's a bit difficult to decide what to order once you're inside because there is no English menu. I was lucky to have a young couple translate for me while I was in the quaint restaurant. I order a large pork sandwich. The owner picked up a large bun a placed it into an ancient oven. It came out and he carefully added carrots, cucumbers, and sauce. The flavor was just right, and the baguette was crispy and flaky on the outside. There are also some Vietnamese groceries available in the restaurant. It's not a large selection, but they have the basics for simple meals. This a perfect location for me when I want something quick and easy to pick up. The sandwiches would also be great of a picnic on the waterfront. They are not comparable to bahn mi sandwiches in Vietnam or the U.S., but they're pretty good for Hong Kong and will save me from cooking a few nights. While waiting for my sandwiches, I was looking at the various media coverage and discovered that there are actually 4 or 5 different sandwich choices. Next time I'll try the point and choose method, and ask for extra sauce on the side.

This place opened around the end of December 2015? Why is this place called Under Vacuum? Because it is translated from French's word, sous-vide. This meaning a "method of cooking in which food is sealed in airtight plastic bags then placed in a water bath or in a temperature-controlled steam environment for longer than normal cooking times" This place sells slow-cooked beef that goes under an 8 or 48-hour process, or slow-cooked chicken that goes under a 2-hour process as a sandwich. Mm... soft meat. They also sell salads, craft beers (yesssss), special drinks, and desserts (which they partnered with a local source) I was sad that they didn't have any slow-cooked ribs the day I went, but that gives me a reason to come back! And they have a happy hour from 6-9pm: if you order any craft beer, you get 50% off on their snack menu. Whaaat. More reason for me to come back! They have only 4 stools to sit right at their kiosk, but do not fret, there are plenty of chairs around the area, but no table. They also provide plastic gloves for you to eat with. Neat. I waited about.. 10 minutes for my food? I think it was fairly worth it. I wish I could drink their craft beers during lunch time and go back to work...

And you will have to allow time for them to cook, even for a sandwich. Their signature angus beef sandwich is just awesome and goes well with a crafted IPA beer. The ribs is awesome too, with very tender texture. I would like to try out more food from their menu as they are very reasonably priced. There are seats in the centenary garden, but you could always do take away. Or you could stand around the kiosk, which they had a small table for a few couples to stand around.

We ordered a tomato noodle with pork chop, two of their pineapple buns, and egg sandwich. I believe all dishes came with a optional additional milk tea for the price of 7hkd. The tomato noodles were very cozy and warming. It had a lot of meat in it. The bowl was quite big. The pineapple buns were flaky and had a runny egg yolk in it. I really enjoyed the egg sandwiches which were good dipped in the tomato noodle broth. The milk tea was not very good. I would either order an cold one or entirely order a different beverage. I'm going to save you a surprise or Wikipedia search here and say there's no pineapple in the bun. It gets it's name from the golden sweet crust that's fashioned into a cross cross shape on the top of the bun, and is typically served with a slab of cold butter. If you don't speak Cantonese, this place might be a little daunting since the menus and service are all in Chinese. I brought a Chinese friend to help me out but I think I could have mostly managed on my own since the part of the menu that matters, has pictures on it. At the very least, the lack of English means it's a place for locals. And boy is it, the pineapple bun I had here ranks right up there with my top breakfasts of all time! I stopped by on a Wednesday morning and the place was pretty full. They have you share tables with other people and there's a stand to register your party out front. I bet this place gets really busy during the weekends, especially judging from the reviews of other branches. Service was fast and I ended up with a pineapple bun and some nissin noodles with spam. The noodles were decent if not memorable but the pineapple bun was outstanding. Their take on it here includes sliced tomato and a fried egg in addition to the cold butter. The fried egg was still runny and that provided a great contrast in texture with the tomato and butter, making it the perfect combination of savory and sweet. I would fly out to eat the pineapple bun here. You should too!
