I've also had an all-time crap experience at one of their other restaurants, The Hong Kong Brew House in LKF. So I figured to have a 50/50 shot when I decided to try Slim's right near my home on Wing Fung Street in the Star Street district. I had to go at lunch time, as this is a very popular evening drinking spot- no one can get near it at night. And I believe it's called Slim's because it's literally the slimmest pub I've ever seen. But fortunately in terms of service and food, Slim's is on the high end of the El Grande offerings. I got a cheesesteak that was hot, meaty and tasty. The fries were perfect. Crispy and salty. I'm very pleased that I finally tried Slim's - definitely a Cochrane's caliber pub.

It's a really small bar, narrow and long, with a bar along the space. The staff is very efficient and friendly. We initially wanted to stay in but today was okay weather-wise and finally decided to have our drinks at the door, which is the common practice when too busy or loud inside. As it is located right in front of Pacific Place 3, we looked for a table outside the terrace of this building, but there wasn't enough for us. However I've seen this area packed with people drinking away their evenings (with drinks from Slim's I guess). Peanuts are offered with a drink - not a nice practice but it seemed okay to throw out the shells to the floor...! On the drinks menu there are a ton of different beers and a few wines. I don't drink beer but noticed the prices at happy hour were very similar (around 45 HKD) - I had a red, a Cavernet Sauvignon from California. I know red wine isn't the 'proper drink' at a bar like this but it was okay. And the atmosphere was also pretty cool, not pretentious but chilled out and relaxed. If after work drinks happen again soon, we'll most likely be heading here.

Post-COVID, it's gotten worse year over year and now that Nicholini is closed, the buffet no longer stretches across the entire floor, it's limited to just Brasserie. The restaurant was packed to the gills pre-COVID but now only a handful of tables were occupied while we were there. Gone is the unlimited lobster, shrimp and other seafood and instead you'll get a platter with one of each and if you want oysters, you have to pay a surcharge of US$4 per piece. There's no longer a carving station and instead they put out a braised beef stew and another low quality item I can't even remember. The sushi/sashimi station is also gone and instead you'll get a pre-assembled fish bite of some kind. The live pasta station is still there but with mediocre selection, it's good but not something you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The rest of the buffet is just so sad with very limited and low quality selections, there's a tuna fish salad on offer, need I say more? They're also stingy with their champagne, we had to ask for a refill a couple of times and they stopped pouring half an hour before closing. We've given this restaurant more chances than it deserves and this time we're saying goodbye to them for good. For the price that we paid which was over US$150 per person, there're better choices out there.

The steak was very tender and juicy, making every bite melting in your mouth. Also, the steak had a good amount of salt, not needing to add more salt unlike most steak places I've tried. The steak had a good meat to fat ratio. The spinach was sautéed with garlic. The spinach had a very strong and delicious garlic flavor plus the perfect amount of salt and juiciness. Worth to try. Also, although the rice was just simple and steamed, the rice tasted good and it wasn't over cooked. The seating area was nice and had a nice outside view. Although the price may seem pricy, the food quality was totally worth it. Overall, very delicious meal and will come again to possibly try another dish. 10/10

We had two claypots (salted fish with meat cake, shrimp paste with pork), their onion and soy sauce chicken and veggies. The salted fish and meat cake claypot had generous portions of both ingredients. The pork in the meat cake tasted fresh and the salted fish was definitely salty enough. The shrimp paste with pork was also very good. The shrimp paste that the pork was cooked in was just strong enough to have flavor but not overbearing. The cut of pork has the texture of pork neck meat - tender but with a slight chew to it. Both pots produced really good burnt rice. The burnt rice at the bottom of the claypot was crispy and didn't stick to your molars. The onion and soy sauce chicken was tender but a little bit under cooked. Still edible, but there was a light pink to bigger pieces of meat. The veggies that we ordered were very bright green and well cooked with garlic, even though we actually ordered with soup. The staff were nice and patient, no rushing you in and out. The restaurant itself felt like it had been there for a long time, but it wasn't dirty or grubby. My only complaint was that the food took a long time to come (at least 20 minutes). The server warned us that the claypot rices would take long, which I understand, but the chicken and veggie should have been quicker. It could have also been that I was really hungry so felt especially impatient. Overall, I had a good dining experience it here and would recommend this place to anyone in the area.
