I tried the "A" option (Martine), which included liver pate, Vietnamese pork, roasted ground pork, tomato, cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon, and red peppers. As the signature sandwich offered, I was surprised to find Vietnamese mayonnaise and too little cilantro, I could barely taste the herbs. The pickled carrots and daikon overpowered the entire sandwich. I literally had to discard half of the pickled veg to get more taste of the meat. The roast pork also did not have enough flavor. I could only taste the Vietnamese (peppered) pork. The baguette however was crispy and flaky with each bite. I ordered the "big" size at $71, which is essentially a foot long and good to share for two people.
The two women working the counter had limited English, but understood me when I asked for NO tomato, since the standard meat banh mi does not have tomato. That is extremely strange to me.
The sandwich took about five minutes to prepare as you wait in front. The shop is just a storefront counter and one very small table for two that is positioned at the entrance. It's very clean and the menu is clear in both Chinese and English. All sandwiches offered can be purchased at big, small, or mini sizes. Assume full, half, or quarter sizes of the foot long baguette. My big size was cut in half and packed into a paper bag for take-away.
It's unfortunate, but if you are in search of the best Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwich in Hong Kong, keep searching. read more
