Coming from the west coast with loads of vietnamese food, my friends took me to BEP in Soho in the late evening (9pm ish). The restaurant was packed with people in an ambient atmosphere. The menus were quite authentic, and pricing was decent for HK standards. Pho back home is usuallly $6.95/$8.95cad for a bowl but here its about $11/$15cad for a bowl for their dinner menu. The food did not dissapoint. I can't say that it was as 'fresh' as the west coast, but the soup broth was stellar. You do get your money's worth as the bowls were quite large with good meat to noodle ratio. One thing to note, there was no sirarcha on the table. This might be something you have to ask for. All in all, great casual dining atmosphere in a hip part of the city.
I quite like them. Regardless the controversial reviews, we went for this easy option that is very close to our office. I was a fan of Na Trang on Wellington street. But Bep just beat it with chic deco and the more drinking friendly vibe, before I start the food. We got the grilled prawn in soy source. Rather sweet for my friend but the skin is cooked just right that I have no problem finishing the whole thing. Then our high expecting soft shell crab roll arrives with very clean presentation. The rice wrap is slightly thicker than normal. That also works perfect for my as I fascinated about sticky rice...Alright, pancake. Half fatty pork, cooked onion mixed with some green and wrapped in sweet salty egg-based pancake. For a second I thought I am having Chinese. The satay chicken is very value-for-money. Rich source even slightly too sweet. Big pieces meat watching you, 'bite me'. The cucumber by the side balanced the greasy. God knows how much I adore greasy food...
I used to work at a Vietnamese restaurant and let me tell you... This is the best Vietnamese food I've ever had! I love how they put their own twist in their dishes. We had the vermicelli, spring rolls, and pho. The broth was DELICIOUS! So flavorful!! The next day I went to Chom Chom and I have to say, BEP all the way!!
I like BEP. It is an easy going Vietnamese cafe restaurant, which promises home style cooking, "like your mama makes", if she were a Vietnamese street cook that is. The venue is surprisingly spacious for a Soho eatery, and this is complimented with clean lines, simple table set ups (think plastic chairs and tables), and efficient albeit perfunctory service. The acoustics are a bit "live" in there, probably due to the lack of any soft furnishing, so it can get pretty noisy, like a Vietnamese cafe I suppose! I like that it does not take bookings, so it is easy (or is that fair?) to get a table at lunchtime - if you don't mind the wait that is. The food is perfectly good, nothing to write home about, but more than adequate to satisfy the hungry office crowd. The problem is, the menu is the same as every other Vietnamese home style cafe in HK. I am desperately trying to remember what I had there yesterday, and can't remember. A quick look on-line for the menu to remind me, and, oh, there isn't an on-line menu. Honestly, it could have been BEP or Nha Trang or Chom Chom, they're all a bit samey. What I do remember, is that the food was hot and tasty, it didn't come out in any particular order, my lunch buddy was half way through her noodle soup before even a hint of a spring roll came my way. Most importantly, it was reasonably priced, with a lunch set around HKD70. It's a great place to come if you are passing and need a quick bite. It's very much a cafe in that sense, i.e. you wouldn't bring a hot date here, unless they were really into hipster Vietnamese cafes.
Vietnamese is always a safe bet in Hong Kong. Bep has quickly taken the place of favourite restaurant since it opened. I have never had a bad meal in here. Always have a rice roll, two of you're feeling outrageous. The salads are always winners, and my favourite is the spicy beef. Satay - yes please. As a tip, choose chicken as the beef can sometimes be a little dry. Complete your meal by trying something new every time and you'll never go wrong. Uh huh. Bep. If you haven't been yet, go. Seriously.
In a word - cool modern Vietnamese place which is so popular there might be a little queue, so patience, it's worth it. Longer version (for the brave) - on a very hot day in HK I have come to meet Kevin, the lovely yelp community manager in this place, and without his specific instructions is never find it, as I have been walking up and down that road without any luck. So keep your eyes open, it's close to the escalators and not on the main road. So we already had a place, after I was catching my breath and enjoying some air conditioning and endless refills of my water glass - we got down to business. At noon they offer lunch deals for 88hkd. You choose two dishes- a starter and a main one, with three options each, there's something for everyone (except vegetarians, but ask, who knows.) So for starters I had a beef ball soup, which was great, the balls however had a weird look and texture so had to skip those. For my main dish I had lemon grass chicken served on bun noodles (served in room temp. with the warm topping). It was a great dish, whatever the chicken was marinated in made it taste delicious and tender, the noodles were yummy and the fresh salad on the side of the bowl did a great when mixing it all up. Ate it until there was nothing left, I also ordered a cucumber mint soda which was very fresh and just the gave the final touch to this whole yummy meal. What surprised me the most was that I didn't know a lot of dishes that appeared on that menu, and I'm glad I was full because it all sounded really good and I'd end up ordering it all haaha. Service was good and dishes came out quick, fair price compare to the fancy prices that are charged around HK. Thanks a lot for hosting me Kev!
I came here for a quick bite to eat with Liz and was not disappointed. Have actually heard her talk about this place since it opened but never actually got around to going there myself. It was pretty quiet when we got there at around 7:40 on a Tuesday evening but did get busier as we ate. We ordered a few light snacks to share as we weren't too hungry. We got chicken satay skewer, pork neck, prawn fresh rolls and the chicken salad. The salad was very fresh but I wasn't a big fan of the large rice crackers lining the bottom. The pork neck was succulent and the rolls were tasty. The satay was done perfectly and the sauce was a bit spicier than I normally have it but still damn fine. We each had a Gingerella (ginger beer) which was really refreshing (if you like ginger it was amazing! super zingy!) The decor is simple and bright and it feels more open than you would expect for a small restaurant in Soho. The wait staff were friendly, helpful and fast. I would definitely come here again.
I've always "take away" from here, as there always seems to be a wait that the hour I come. With take away they charge you an extra 3$. For what? I'm not sure. I can't read chinese writing. See the receipt that I posted in the pictures. Generally, the pho is ok! Usually, after I eat PHO, it leaves a nasty after taste that makes me want to throw up. But the broth in this establishment is good! It's a simple type of PHO that usually just only has one kind or cut of meat. The Pomelo and apple salad is also very tasty. It used to be called Na Trang.
Delicious delicious Pho! Also the people next to us were eating some amazing looking skewers of chicken, lamb? We only had like 250$hk so opted for 2 beef pho. It was so excellent. They do take credit cards for orders over 200$ hk but didn't wanna risk it since it was my first night in hk. Coming from southern cali where there are a lot of good Vietnamese cuisine, I was kinda reluctant to try this place as my first meal. However, this place was Amazing! If you appreciate Vietnam cuisine this place is a must try!!
Really super good!! This location used to be Nha Trang, but I have to say BEP is definitely so much better! In Hong Kong, Vietnamese can really be a hit or miss, but this one was definitely of superior quality as well as price! It was a dinner two of my friends. Two of us arrived first and we requested a table instead of the bar. the waiter explained that for the tables, we can only be seated when the full headcount is here, and if we sit at the bar, we cannot change to the tables later. We opted for the bar seating at the back corner of the place. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer while we waited for our friend. The place wasn't full yet when we were seated, but it was impossible to get the attention of the waiters in our far wall of the restaurant. There were several times where we both thought two different waiters saw us waiving, only to find out he was staring at the thin air 1 meter from us. Very frustrating. Our friend arrived just a little after 8, about 30 mins after we were seated. Before she arrived, the waiter asked us when our full party was going to arrive, as there is a table limit of 1.5 hours. He mentioned that since it's almost 1 hour since we were there, and if she didn't arrive soon we weren't going to have enough time to eat. While I was nodding, my friend remarked that this fact was not mentioned to us when we were seated. Waiter defaulted to the we-are-busy-and-this-is-policy line. And we basically mentioned it isn't fair that he was only mentioning this now, with half our time gone; if he had mentioned this earlier, we would have waited for our friend to be seated. He just walked away. After being served our orders, he indirectly apologized by saying - what I said earlier, I didn't mean that to 趕走 you (to hurry or drive you out). We just nodded as we weren't planning to hurry ourselves anyway. He also got my order wrong. Other server served a bun noodle to the table and I sent it back. The server had the balls to come back and challenge what I ordered (with his delivery of the question it was a challenge rather than a confirmation). I was not impressed by the way our server dealt with everything so unsympathetically and with no sincerity whatsoever. The not so smooth service/ experience aside. The food was actually very good. When my noodle finally came after my friends were done eating half their meal - I just devoured that seafood, tomato based pho! Whatever they put in that broth(crab I think), it was to die for. I have never tried pho with this kind of base before, but I don't think it was actually called pho (it's the last item under the pho page). For the price and quality of the food, I would definitely be back. I think we were just unlucky about our server service - for that I took 1* - it would otherwise been 5 stars. Bêp, if you're reading this, get your service training together! I'm not looking for a grand entrance service, but the basics!
Great food overall! Definitely recommend it if you are in a time pinch and want something quick and healthy. I had a shrimp roll I can't remember the name or the number but it was great. #107 sounded great and looks tasty when it arrived but it was way to spicy for my liking , I wish they would put that on their menu. Otherwise I was content with my orders!
Decent Vietnamese chain spot with consistent food quality. The menu has good selection of salad, pho, bun, drinks and signature dishes. It comes with pictures so you kinda know what you are getting. The food comes out pretty fast and they are appropriately seasoned with Vietnamese spices. I didn't find a need to add fish sauce for my bun (vermicelli). The only downfall is tables are closely placed together to maximize square footage so you know if the next table couple is fighting or having a good time. read more
BÊP, you have a new devotee to add to your quickly-growing fan club. I recently met someone here for a business meeting, as BÊP was suggested as a great spot with its ideal central location on Wellington and plentiful seating. And come on - who doesn't like Vietnamese food? Not me. I'm in the full-on love camp. When I lived in Chicago, neither heavy rain nor snowpocalypse conditions could keep me away from my weekly bowl of pho or bánh mì. Some weeks, my favorite Viet spot saw me two or three times. I know, I know - I'm addicted. Well I'm happy to report that BÊP more than satisfies my craving for legitimately solid Vietnamese fare. Because I couldn't commit to just one item, I decided to go with the 2-course lunch set. For under 100 HKD, you get to try two ample-sized dishes and you can choose a drink as well (for an additional nominal fee). However, I didn't enjoy the lotus root Vietnamese iced tea... it had a very strong, bitter taste that I fought to get down. I later switched to the lime soda and enjoyed that beverage much more! For my first course, I had the mixed green and herb salad with crispy pork belly. Wow - I was surprised by the ample portion of pork belly and it was quite good. Perfectly crispy and not overly fatty. This is my dream version of pork belly; wish it tasted like this every time! By the time our second courses came around, I had already put a nice dent into my appetite. However, the bun vermicelli with lemongrass chicken instantly enticed. The chunks of chicken were plentiful and aesthetically beautiful. Really! And the dish tasted even better so it wasn't just another pretty face. We also decided to split the lone dessert option on the menu - xoi ngot, grilled sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves, pandan coconut sauce and roasted peanuts - but this ended up sounding more appealing that it actually tasted. Would be nice to see a few more dessert options on the menu. Still stoked to have found a great spot to indulge in Vietnamese cuisine on the regular. I'll soon be back for a bowl of pho tai now that temps are finally dropping! read more
Really, really good. The comments are pretty much spot-on. We had the Nem, Bo Lyc Lac, & Pho Ga, and thought they were all good. I prefer my Bo Luc Lac 'dry' (& without garlic cloves), but it was good. Wine selection was limited but good. Service was very good. Overall, great. A couple observations: the ceilings are low & it has an open kitchen, so it is very noisy. It is also a little tricky to find: its not actually on Hollywood road, but off the 'escalator alley'. read more

The service was good, spoke good English. We asked our waitress for recommendations and they were all excellent. Super clean, fast and very flavorful. We will come back. read more

My go-to Vietnamese place in HK. Serves great summer rolls, spring rolls, skewers, and grilled beef/pork on noodles. The pho here also provides a nice comforting feel. read more

Love this place. A bit pricey for Viet food but I find the taste pretty authentic despite the fact that it is a very westernized restaurant (which in my books is a A+, since it's clean, visually appealing, and a good meet up spot.) read more

Good place to get a quick meal... literally quick!! They'd serve you fast and clean up fast aswell! Which is a good thing if you're in a rush but also could be a bad thing if you wanna take your time and enjoy your meal. Food is delicious and the staff are friendly. 4.3stars from us!! read more

Most amazing place I've been in HK, from the interior to the cuisine and dishes they serve, would recommend all the way. Really enjoyed it and will definitely go again. read more
