However, my hubby suggested taking the Star Ferry instead since it was during rush hour and the MTR would probably be very crowded. I'm so glad we took his advice! The ferry ride was relaxing, and we got to enjoy the beautiful views of Victoria Harbour along the way. It was a refreshing break from the busy city and one of the highlights of our trip. The ride took only about 8-10 minutes and cost just a few Hong Kong dollars, making it an affordable and memorable experience. The ferry operates daily from around 7:20 AM to 11:00 PM, so it's a convenient option for getting between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai or you can take the Star Ferry from Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui. If you're visiting Hong Kong, I highly recommend taking the Star Ferry at least once. It's not just transportation, it's also a scenic experience so that's definitely worth it.

We walked over, used our Octopus card to pay, and boarded the Lower Level of the Star Ferry. (The upper level costs a bit more for a slightly better view.) Wooden seats are First Come, First Served. There are no assigned seats. The way the seats face can change by flipping the row of seat backs! Note: We left Kowloon to tour Hong Kong Island on 10.13.24, Sunday, because there was a large marathon or bike race which blocked many roads. Thanks to great planning by Andrew!

Ferries come once every 30 minutes or so, which isn't too bad considering the number of people who take the ferry. There aren't many seats in the waiting area, but this waiting area is VERY nice. It has a coffeeshop, a convenience store, and comfortable chairs. Departing from Sok Kwu Wan, it took roughly 20-30 minutes on a beautiful, air conditioned boat to get to Central. There aren't a lot of people who take this ferry in the afternoon, so there's plenty of space! The cost of the ferry was 40HKD, so it was rather pricey, but it's really worth the time that you spend on this ferry. It's VERY convenient for folks who either live in Central and work in Lamma Island, or vice versa.

So much movement and color changes. I am amazed how everything is well synchronized and structured. It can be a little tricky getting into the pier even from a few blocks as we were. It is about 20 HKG which is around .70USD. Take your plastic coin and enjoy the trip. It is not a round trip. Everybody will wait the doors to open and look for the best spots near the windows. Even on the back seats you will have a great view. Be aware to seat at the front. Ferry direction changes when arriving to each pier. It will get packed before 8pm.

The terminal is spacious, bright, and well maintained, with clear signs that make it easy to find your way. The design feels fresh and welcoming, and the waterfront area around the pier is also very nice for a stroll or taking photos. I'd argue that it's one of the most iconic pictures of Hong Kong and I was excited to see Aqua Luna offering various types of cruises in the junk boat. We originally bought our tickets online but because of a typhoon, all cruises were cancelled. Luckily, we had the option for a refund or reschedule and we chose refund for flexibility...just in case we couldn't make the reschedule. We managed to find time later but I wasn't able to finalize the purchase before sales closed on the website. I was able to call them and they told me to just show up at the pick-up location and pay in person. Credit card accepted! Every night at 8PM, the city puts up a light show with music. You can watch that on either side of the harbor but being in the waters sounded like a unique viewpoint and you can switch sides whenever you want. The Symphony of Lights cruise has two pickup spots, one at Tsim Sha Tsui Pier 1 (7:30PM) and the other at Central Pier 9 (7:45PM). If you want the best seats, go to the Tsim Sha Tsui Pier 1 pickup and head upstairs. You'll want the seats on the right side of the boat. The cruise itself was pretty fantastic. The city lights reflect on the water and it makes for a great picture. It was a August summer night, right after a typhoon, and the weather/temperature was way more manageable. However, the light show was really anti-climatic. The picture on Aqua Luna's website makes it look so grand but what we saw was just some flashing lights, some sparse lasers. It's like they spread out the special effects across the buildings too much. But that's not Aqua Luna's problem, they're just providing a means and they did a great job at that! Each ticket also gets you a drink!

I'm glad we chose the Aqualuna Harbour Cruise because instead of the typical modern yachts and boats with neon lights, this actually feels like you're experiencing a little piece of old Hong Kong. We took the early evening cruise, which was perfect. It's around 45 minutes and comes with one drink, plus there's a bar onboard. There's also an upper deck where you can sit outside and enjoy the breeze. The views are spectacular because you get to see both sides of Victoria Harbour as the skyline starts lighting up for the night. The boat itself was really my favorite part. The wood interiors, red lanterns and huge red sails give it so much character, and it's very different from just taking another regular harbour cruise. My only comment would be the music. It was a bit of a hodgepodge and didn't really suit the setting. Something more relaxed and atmospheric would have made the cruise even nicer. Still, I'm really glad we did it. If you're going to cruise Victoria Harbour, riding one of Hong Kong's iconic red-sail junk boats makes the experience much more memorable.
