Which it is, but we really had a great experience of taking the Aqua Luna red junk boat from Central to Stanley on a Sunday at noon. My husband and I thought we might go over to Stanley to bump around on a Sunday as a simple summer thing to do and spend the day. We were inclined to take a cab, because we do not like lines with the bus situation. I took a peak on line to see if there was a water option on getting from Central to Stanley and Aqua Luna was the main thing that kept popping up. I am sure that there might be one or two others, for in Stanley, we saw people waiting on the docks, but based on my search on-line, there are not many options Aqua Luna offers evening harbor cruises, a Hong Kong harbour discovery tour and Stanley weekend cruises. We took the Stanley weekend cruise that departs from Central at noon every Saturday and Sunday (these are the only two options at all during a week). If you get to Central and get to the Central Piers, go to Pier 9 and you will find a Aqua Luna rep and at one of the docks down the pier a bit. Although it appeared to highly encourage an on-line booking, we simply showed up about 20 minutes early, checked in with the rep, they had space for us that day, queued up in line and we were good to go. Queuing up early is key if you wish to sit or rather lounge on the rattan couches on the open air upper floor and/or have interest in your seat selection (I believe the lower deck in fully enclosed and air conditioned, not certain though because I never went down there). Once the boat leaves the dock, the staff walk around and gather payment, which we paid by cash. We bought a one way ticket, with the intention of taking a cab back, and it cost $250HKD for one person and includes a drink. Also, know that once the boat leaves from Central Pier 9, it travels across the harbour to Tsim Sha Tsui Piblic Pier 1 for pick up those passengers at that Aqua Luna departure point before it departs for Stanley. So if you board from Tsim Sha Tsui, you get second pics on seating (because all the people from Central Pier boarded before you) and guaranteed to most likely not sit up top. It was a beautiful day, although hot. Once the boat gets going, there is a natural breeze that cools things down a bit. We were in shorts and t-shirts, which was the way to go with the heat on the boat ride. The rattan open air top level was so comfortable, relaxing and cozy as we kicked our shoes off, curled up and enjoyed our beer (juices, beer, wine, water are beverage options). The views and seeing the surrounding islands on this 90 minute voyage really is a great way to experience Hong Kong away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. We were most impressed by the staff who were all welcoming, kind, smiling, appreciative, attentive and focused on the safety of passengers at all moments, from each person who boarded the step to safely get on the boat to each person walking up and down the staircase during the trip when waters were choppy or people's sea legs were not properly underneath them. What a great experience! We would highly recommend Aqua Luna and the mysterious red junk to anyone interested in seeing Hong Kong from a different vantage point.

We walked over, used our Octopus card to pay, and boarded the Lower Level of the Star Ferry. (The upper level costs a bit more for a slightly better view.) Wooden seats are First Come, First Served. There are no assigned seats. The way the seats face can change by flipping the row of seat backs! Note: We left Kowloon to tour Hong Kong Island on 10.13.24, Sunday, because there was a large marathon or bike race which blocked many roads. Thanks to great planning by Andrew!

I haven't been on a ferry since my childhood visiting relatives in rural Japan down in Hiroshima and the Star Ferry which is right beside the beautiful Clock Tower landmark is truly a sight not to be missed. Boarding the ferry is a breeze especially when you use an Octopus card much like the Suica card in Japan you're able to use it many forms of transportation and for shopping as well. With just one tap we were on our way. I followed the group and boarding is no fancy procedure get on and find a seat. It definitely goes pretty fast and was basically there in just minutes but the view from Victoria Harbor was breathtaking. Kowloon Public Pier is nice and a lovely gathering place offering lovely views which is a place that I'd is definitely a place to sea. Thank you!

The cabin is air conditioned and it feels like travelling on an airplane (similar seats, boarding). When leaving HK and entering Macau, you go through customs. So, don't forget to bring your passport. The customs process is quick and easy. The only thing on which they could improve is online ticketing. I tried MANY times to buy tickets online and couldn't get it to work. It's one of those websites that doesn't like foreign credit cards. Too bad. They had better deals online. But, with the website not working for me, I purchased my tickets at a Kowloon ferry ticketing office on the prior day and it worked out fine.

A high speed ferry we took from Zhongshan China back to Hong Kong and what a ride it was, hour and a half ride though at super high speed was very smooth and arrival was at China Ferry Terminal. Arrival is very similar as if you're entering from an airport going through various sections to get cleared along with our luggage we exit the area to wait for the rest of the group and I was blown to see that there's a CupNoodle Museum...whaaat! Apparently this ferry terminal has several shops as well and a whole CupNoodle Museum with a My CupNoodle Factory which I've done in Yokohama but never had I imagine to find that here lol! Getting out though be mindful not to just take an exit especially if you're planning to take a taxi to your destination as the taxi here aren't allowed to pickup at just any curbside especially we were standing at a bus stop and a designated taxi drop off so all drivers refused to take us as it wasn't allowed. There is a bus/taxi area that we found and went down there to find a designated taxi pick up which is lesson learned. Thank you!

Luckily, we had a window seat and there were charging ports for our phones. Our row was near the entrance and the restrooms which had Western toilets... yay! If you want to go to the new and more glamorous casinos, take the ferry to Macau Taipa. Cotai is one of the two major ferry companies that transport people to Macau (along with TurboJET). Long story short, I was supposed to have gone on TurboJET, but things change, and I ended up with Cotai. Eh, it's a 50-55 boat ride, and both companies have similar boats. What's the diff? I sat in first class, which was on the upper deck. Honestly, I didn't buy the tickets and just followed the petite copine. We were fortunate that the ride was smooth throughout, but just in case, I took non-drowsy Dramamine (hey, gotta be in tip-top shape when you're at the video slots). First class was really quiet, and well-lighted. It was a humid day but the air quality inside was pleasant. The entire boat has wifi, which is a very positive touch. Is it worth the extra $15 USD or so for first class? Eh, a little more yes than no. You get to disembark first, so that means you get to hop on those tour buses that take you to the casinos before everyone else, you degenerate gambler. The seat is admittedly more roomy and there is more legroom. Additionally, both trips, there wasn't a person near us, so that was nice. There were a couple of tvs in front, but there wasn't anything of significance showing. I didn't take advantage of the complimentary food and drink. The ride is less than an hour; do you really need to hastily wolf down an instant ramen and a bag of chips, like the guy I saw to my left? It's not like the food sucks in HK or Macau. If I were to take the ferry again, and if I wasn't on a tight budget, I suppose I would take first class again. But yeah, in general, Cotai is fine as transport to Macau.

There are two major water taxi companies, one being Cotai and the other being being Turbojet. Both get you to Macau, but completely different docks. If you are looking to get to the Las Vegas on steroids part of the island, you want to take Cotai, which will run upwards of 20 ish dollars. If you are looking to land on the side where the old town is located, you will need to take Turbojet (Not sure of price). The secret though is the casino buses will give you free rides in between the two parts of the island. Worst case though, taxis are pretty cheap! Anyways, back to the ride itself. It is quick,has free wifi, semi comfortable, and a little dated inside. They do have a first class upstairs, but honestly to me it was not worth it as it only takes 40ish minutes to get to Macau and back. Make sure you do get to the dock on time, so you are not fighting to get on a another boat if you missed your allotted time frame. One last protip is to check various out sites (Tripadvisor, Viator, Klook) as they offer tickets about 5 dollars less than the official taxi companies themselves.

From the experience that my friends and I went though, paying a bit extra for first class was worth it. Originally, all of us had planned on going to Macau on the cheapest route (via economy class), but on the day of, most of the seats had been sold out and only first class was available. Furthermore, the time selection was quite limited with other economy seats, so boom, first class we went. Prior to boarding, you would first secure your ticket, go through security / customs check and then wait in the boarding area. Do keep in mind that the queue does grow long quite fast and there will be people with luggage. My suggestion is to wear comfy footwear and no heels / flip flops due to the highly probable chance that your feet will get rolled over by the rolling suitcases. Boarding itself was quite troublesome. Not only do you have to fight through the crowd to get on the ferry, but you will have to endure some minor elbowing and pushing as people rushed through. Once you get to the ferry, economy class will be seated on the bottom deck while first class get seated at the upper deck. If you're in a group, make sure to indicate that when purchasing your ticket so that you and your group can be seated relatively close together. For first class perks, you do get complimentary beverages and a cute box full of small snacks. Seats are super comfortable and the ride itself was super smooth. If you like taking pictures, there are windows everywhere in the upper deck, so snap away those pics at your heart's content. Plus, the atmosphere was quite relaxing and quiet, so taking a one hour nap is a pretty idea too. Upon departure, first class does have priority in leaving first which proved to be a plus for my friends and I because we did beat the crowd in reaching the customs area. Overall, I highly recommend going first class for a ferry ride to Macau if you can afford it / cost doesn't matter much. Hassle free and the flexibility in time is a major plus, especially when you're purchasing the tickets the day of.

Especially when you are taking an International flight with the airlines you are flying that participate the program. Important to make sure that you check the ferry schedule especially if you have a flight to catch! You will need your passport and your flight ticket reference when buying your ferry ticket since you have to be departing Hong Kong the same day in order to take advantage of this arrangement. Once you get off the ferry ride, you would arrive at the restricted zone at HKG, you will find your respective airlines check in counters to drop off your luggage and pick up your boarding pass if needed. The best part is you would get a refund of your HKG portion of your airport tax in cash and there is practically no lines to clear immigration and security and even lines for check in! You might want to avoid this route though during Typhoon Season as the ferry ride might be rough and there might not even have ferry services. Please make sure you do have a Plan B. I was lucky as the weather was nice and I looking forward to another ferry ride in the future.

Easy to find in the terminal and the line moves pretty quickly. It was something like $30 per person for tickets and because we carried on our luggage, we were able to catch the 7pm ferry despite buying tickets about 6:45. He actual ferry entrance is just around the corner and has a couple big escalators- very exciting for our little dudes! The actual ride was comfortable and took about 75 minutes. Went through customs after we got to Macau and it went as smooth as it ever has! WiFi on the boat was free and there were refreshments for purchase. Was a very good time indeed!

It is nice to ride at night to see the beautiful city of Hong Kong and Kowloon. Going to this pier is a little bit of a walk from World Wide Center - that's where we exited from the MTR. We just followed the sign that led us here. You can ask people if you get confused with the signs. Most of them are nice. It was a leisurely walk though since we are not in a hurry. We took our time, checked out the buildings that we are passing and the big Ferris wheel that we hope to ride next time. There are stores around the pier and vending machines too. You need a token or an octopus card to get in the waiting area. Ferry's come every 10 - 15 minutes apart I think.
