However, my hubby suggested taking the Star Ferry instead since it was during rush hour and the MTR would probably be very crowded. I'm so glad we took his advice! The ferry ride was relaxing, and we got to enjoy the beautiful views of Victoria Harbour along the way. It was a refreshing break from the busy city and one of the highlights of our trip. The ride took only about 8-10 minutes and cost just a few Hong Kong dollars, making it an affordable and memorable experience. The ferry operates daily from around 7:20 AM to 11:00 PM, so it's a convenient option for getting between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai or you can take the Star Ferry from Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui. If you're visiting Hong Kong, I highly recommend taking the Star Ferry at least once. It's not just transportation, it's also a scenic experience so that's definitely worth it.

We walked over, used our Octopus card to pay, and boarded the Lower Level of the Star Ferry. (The upper level costs a bit more for a slightly better view.) Wooden seats are First Come, First Served. There are no assigned seats. The way the seats face can change by flipping the row of seat backs! Note: We left Kowloon to tour Hong Kong Island on 10.13.24, Sunday, because there was a large marathon or bike race which blocked many roads. Thanks to great planning by Andrew!

While the bus is cheaper and good for people who are afraid of heights, it takes much longer, about 50 to 60 minutes. The mountain roads are also very winding, which can make some people feel dizzy. My husband and I rode the Crystal Cabin to see the Big Buddha on our last trip. Since it was our daughters' first time in Hong Kong, we really wanted them to try it, too. They do have regular cabins without clear floors, but none of us are scared of heights, so we happily chose the glass-bottom one. We bought our tickets early on Klook. It was much cheaper than buying them at the gate. We also chose to visit on a weekday, which was a great choice because it was not crowded at all. I still remember our last visit ten years ago was super packed, and people had to wait in huge lines just to get on. The cable car ride takes about 25 minutes each way. We only bought a one-way ticket this time because we wanted to visit Tai O Fishing Village afterward. It was a fun, smooth, and beautiful 25-minute ride. We loved looking down at the green hills, seeing waterfalls, and watching the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery come into view. Surprisingly, it was not hot at all, and it felt pretty cool up there on the mountain. It was truly amazing!

No where will you get a full view of the Hong Kong airport (unless you decide to climb up a mountain). This is my second time visiting and still very memorable and worthwhile. We got there around 10am on a Saturday and purchased tickets at the gate and didn't have a wait. Weekend tickets are more expensive, but we didn't have a choice with our schedule. I opted for the crystal glass cabin which I highly recommend for that full 360 degrees experience. The cabin has a clear glass bottom. The line for the crystal glass cabin is significantly shorter than the standard one too so avoiding the wait alone is worth it. Each one way ride is actually longer than I thought it would be so well worth the price. There's of course the giant Buddha to see at the top. There's also a few hiking trails. There are a lot of restaurant options at the top, but I suggest having lunch at their vegetarian cafe by the monastery- it's unique and delicious .

Interested in going to Macau hassle free and not have to deal with a pushy crowd? Then hit up this…read moreferry company and do it the fancy way of going first class. From the experience that my friends and I went though, paying a bit extra for first class was worth it. Originally, all of us had planned on going to Macau on the cheapest route (via economy class), but on the day of, most of the seats had been sold out and only first class was available. Furthermore, the time selection was quite limited with other economy seats, so boom, first class we went. Prior to boarding, you would first secure your ticket, go through security / customs check and then wait in the boarding area. Do keep in mind that the queue does grow long quite fast and there will be people with luggage. My suggestion is to wear comfy footwear and no heels / flip flops due to the highly probable chance that your feet will get rolled over by the rolling suitcases. Boarding itself was quite troublesome. Not only do you have to fight through the crowd to get on the ferry, but you will have to endure some minor elbowing and pushing as people rushed through. Once you get to the ferry, economy class will be seated on the bottom deck while first class get seated at the upper deck. If you're in a group, make sure to indicate that when purchasing your ticket so that you and your group can be seated relatively close together. For first class perks, you do get complimentary beverages and a cute box full of small snacks. Seats are super comfortable and the ride itself was super smooth. If you like taking pictures, there are windows everywhere in the upper deck, so snap away those pics at your heart's content. Plus, the atmosphere was quite relaxing and quiet, so taking a one hour nap is a pretty idea too. Upon departure, first class does have priority in leaving first which proved to be a plus for my friends and I because we did beat the crowd in reaching the customs area. Overall, I highly recommend going first class for a ferry ride to Macau if you can afford it / cost doesn't matter much. Hassle free and the flexibility in time is a major plus, especially when you're purchasing the tickets the day of.
