Was super excited to tray their pancakes since it was their "specialty." I came here, because of the good reviews (especially since it's located in Carrollton where Korean food is known to be good), but we may have came during an off day. We ordered their haemul pajeon (seafood pancake), galbi, and jjampong (spicy seafood with thick noodles). My friend and I loved the haemul pajeon and galbi. The haemul pajeon was crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside. However, I will say that I would have wanted a little bit more seafood given the price (23ish dollars). The galbi was also very well seasoned and very good. There was a good amount of fat, but wasn't bad as we could just cut it off. Again, this dish was 30 dollars, which was very pricey given how much we got. The jjampong was not very good. It was very bland and I felt like the noodles were overcooked. We did come at a very awkward time, but I felt that the food was just average compared to what we paid. There was a problem with our order and I personally didn't feel like they even tried to resolve it, which was very unfortunate. Here's what we tried: Potato & Cheese Pancake: This was just okay for me. It definitely wasn't bad. Kids may enjoy it as it's a sweeter pancake with a combo of potatoes and cheese. Seafood Green Onion Pancake: This dish was great. I thoroughly enjoyed this order and would be my go to item when I come to this restaurant. Flavors were there and a lots of green onion with bits of seafood mixed in. Gimbap: The Korean rolls here were good, nothing too out of the ordinary. Ratio of filling to rice was definitely a nice. Pollack Stew: This dish felt a bit under seasoned for my tastes. It was bland, but at the very least you really taste the flavor of the fish. It comes with a bowl of steamed rice. Didn't feel like anything too special especially for price of this soup. Ambiance and staff are great. Overall the food was hit or miss. Banchan/sides were very good and they were good about refilling it when we asked. Service was good for the most part up until they seemed to completely forget our order of Pollack Stew. It was a bit hard to stomach the stew after our party had already filled up and completely finished everything else. They literally brought it to us at the very end of our meal. There's a lot of other items on the menu that I'd definitely like to try like: grilled meats, noodles, and dumplings. Great first time experience with Zzizim as the staffs are super friendly and attentive to customers. They definitely do their best to meet our needs. For example, we asked whether the new grilled pork dish was spicy and he said it is rather on a sweet side. We asked if we could personalize it to be spicier and he brought us very fresh hot peppers and seasoned sliced green onion that went perfectly with the dish. The basic mixed zzizims are pretty average. What i like about them is that they taste less oily and has a lot of variety. 1) Atmosphere/interior: 4/5 typical old school theme with little bit of asian vibe. They can dim the light to bring more intimate mood. 2 private rooms good for groups. A lot of seating areas for relatively small space. It doesn't look suffocating though 2) Service 5/5 they will try to accommodate you at their best. Don't hesitate to ask. Service is definitely important to survive in this strip of plaza and they know how to do it for sure! 3) Food 4.5/5 This new pork grill was impressive. Adequate smoke flavor. Not overly sweet, yet very tender/juicy. It is perfect with side dish they prepare. You must order this. The fishcake soup were very decent as well with nice presentation. This place recently opened and serves the, arguably, best Korean pancakes in Dallas. My friend and I came for dinner. There's enough seating for about 8 parties at a time with tall separators between tables. The service was exceptional and the waitress was incredibly attentive. As soon as we got close to finishing our water, the waitress brought us another bottle. When we got close to running out of side dishes, they were immediately resupplied. The water/barley tea was really good. The side dishes were alright but we came for the pancakes. We ordered a seafood pancake and a plate of pork belly. The pancake came with giant chunks of squid, shrimp, and long strips of whole green onions. The batter itself was very light. While the pancake looked big, I could have probably eaten another one. The pancake sauce dip was spicy and sweet and went really well with the food. The pork belly was okay. It was really large and crunchy bacon. The pork belly sat atop green onions and onions so the oiled had soaked into them which made it more fragrant. Beside the pork belly was some green onion mixed with some spicy sauce which was alright. I wouldn't order this again. The price is reasonable given the serving size, exceptional service, and food quality. Overall, while I can't say much for their other dishes, this place has exceptional pancakes. The food was satisfying although the potato and cheese pancake was a bit underdone. The tofu stew had a good portion of protein and the same can be said about the spicy pork. I will say the price was just a tinge on the pricier side for the amount of food. On the whole, it's a good place for a quick bite. It's a decent restaurant with a good selection of food. The beef and rice soup was good. The fish sticks were still good. She got a side of waffle fries and tater tots. I don't know if it's because I haven't had tater tots in awhile, but man... they were awesome!! The pork belly is really thin. I prefer the thick cut. It's my only complaint, which isn't really a complaint!! It came with a green onion salad. I love green onion salad. I make it a lot at home, but they make it better of course! This was not my first time at Zzizim. My girlfriend and I come here almost every week. In fact, my girlfriend is now known here as radish girl because of how much she loves kimchi radish! Zzizim is easily the best Korean food we've ever had. My favorite dish is the beef fried rice. If it is your first time here, it is my number 1 recommendation. This time we ordered the la style short ribs, grilled and marinated pork, fried dumplings, and the sweet potato pancake. As per usual at Zzizim, everything was delicious. The short ribs and pork were perfectly tender and had a wonderful flavor. One of them also came with a side of green onion salad which had a sort of sesame oil salad dressing I believe. It too was great. The service here is also great. All of the staff is very friendly. They say hello when you walk in and thank you as you leave. We typically have Jin as our server. She is very nice, attentive, and always makes great recommendations. We also love the atmosphere. Zzizim is easy to miss when driving down Denton rd, but inside it is quaint, clean, and comforting. This week, I ordered the spicy cold noodles and realized there was no protein in it. When I first had it, they used to have Yukjeon and I guess they decided to take that off. The price was the same for some veggies and noodles for 8.99. I could just buy the noodles at Hmart and boil it myself and put leftover veggies and I'm sure it would cost less than 1dollars.
