The absolute best shrimp taco salad I've ever had. The onion rings are hand cut and battered in the kitchen which made them the freshest and best I've ever had. Walked in to grab an ice cream and the owner advised they don't do samples of flavors, having a chain of restaurants I know that a customer will spend based on visual impulses. Not much service orientation and average butter pecan flavor. A guy came to the table and after getting our drinks as us if we were ready to order. We explained we were waiting on a 3rd person. He came back several times and asked us to order and was actually very pushy. I finally decided to order fried green tomatoes which they were out of. Finally my BF who is very clearly gay came in he pulled a female waitress aside in clear view of us and had a discussion and refused to come back to the table. This was my first time at Zuzu's the place didn't seem like anything special just a normal American burger joint. The services was good and food was quick, although I was there on a Monday afternoon and there were not too many people there. I had a Cuban sandwich, which is one of my favorite sandwiches and it was on point really tasty, my friend had wings and they were okay nothing special but not bad. The fries although hand cut, they were just not good, they were saggy, looked like they were fried on old oil. I like my fries nice and crunchy not saggy. When visiting the village at SSI, there are many gourmet high dollar dinner options available. The family and I arrived in the village late and were just in the mood for a burger or sandwiches. Keeping it simple and reasonable. We had our 5 year old with us and didn't want to drag her into a bar for pub fair. So we decided to give ZuZu's a try. I'm so glad we did. We were seated immediately, service was friendly and the food was better than expected. My Burger is the best I've had on SSI. The 5 year old ate her entire grilled cheese, which never happens. My wife and sister in law split a burger with fries and fried green tomatoes. All of it passed the sisters scrutiny test with flying colors. A great lunch place. The burgers were excellent. Burgers, or May with 100% beef and tasted like you made burgers at home. And the bread on the burgers soft and fluffy cheese and mushrooms or fresh. If you're looking for a great burger joint, this is the place. They have many varieties burgers to choose from, and many great appetizers. We tried the fried pickles fresh from the fryer. It doesn't get any better than that! Overall the atmosphere was really nice and very kid friendly. The walls were covered with many pictures of classic artwork giving restaurant a hole in the feel. Interestingly, they even had fresh ice cream. This makes sense being that they're right next to he beach. I walked in with 4 friends and 3 of us wanted to eat. The hostess didn't give us any menus or anything. We told the waitress repeatedly we were ready to order. Also the place wasn't even packed. We came here to eat because all the other restaurants were packed. It's a small place but has a decent selection of fast food and ice cream. We had burgers, the burgers were good and they had fresh cut fries. As for the service it ranged from good to bad. Let me explain, the waitresses were friendly, got the orders right and attentive. However, the guys behind the counter weren't friendly, when we went to pick up our food to go we noticed some small mistakes on the order (even though the ticket was correct). Now, I'm not picking on the cooks, they did mess up the order a little but the food was good (and I got the impression they didn't speak English, so it was likely just a communication error). The Manager/owner (whoever the guy was that was in charge) wasn't friendly though. I tried to ask the guy that seemed to be in charge about correcting the order but he never answered me. He just talked with the cooks and didn't respond. I know he heard me he was directly in front of me and I tried talking to him a few times. I get you feel busy but if you're working on bagging our order respond to me. A couple other things to note, they had a couple tables out front as well as about 10 tables in side. Have been to ZuZu's twice now. The food is classic American burgers and sandwiches. We had to wait a while for our food but when we received it, it was very good and fresh. Our waitress was very nice and on top of things. I however watched the girl at the register most of the hour I was sitting there. I watched her use a rag next to the lemon squeezer on the counter, her shoes and the floor when she spilt the juice. She then put it right back next to the juicer. Then grabbed it and wiped the counter again. Then grabbed the same rag to wipe tables in between customers. It was disgusting. She also was chomping gum and rude to customers. Bad smell in the back of the restaurant with sticky tables where gnats resided and flew. Asked them to wipe the table, I was given a used wet towel to do so myself. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. No refills, not even a check in to see if we needed anything, also had to get our own to go boxes. If you're a little shy and don't want to drip ice cream in front of everyone, there are plenty of booths where you can enjoy your ice cream and other members of your party can opt for a sandwich, salad, or cool drink. A pretty solid though by no means amazing burger. I was here late on a weekday in the winter, so it was dead...but I can imagine how busy this place is during tourist season. The people were friendly enough, but not overly so. They got the job done and said thank you, which is what I look for in a place like this. I got a burger with fried green tomato on top, and a side of onion rings. It all came out within about 10 minutes. The beef itself was tasty, but not hugely so. Also wasn't overly seasoned, which I appreciate. The addition of fried green tomato was really quite good, though the tomatoes were incredibly hot. But I'll take hot over cold! I've been in for ice cream several times, and because I'm Mr Excitement i get the same flavors every time; scoop of chocolate and a scoop of coffee with chocolate chips(?). Anyway, the ice cream is tasty, and the scoops are large so it quenches my ice cream craving. I have also had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. Really enjoyed the burger, it was very tasty. The fries are hand cut, could use a bit more seasoning for my taste, but were good. People are friendly, but aren't going to talk your ear off, which is fine by me. What a HUGE disappointment. I wish there was a way to get my money back. There was no identifiable owner or manager on site. We went there based on the reviews of the fries, onion rings, and burgers. The burgers were okay. However, the onion rings were horrible and so were the fries. The onion rings were undercooked and way more greasy than they should've been. The fries, while hand cut, were way over cooked--dry and tough with a taste of burned oil. As if this wasn't enough, our server had the worst attitude and was horrible. If you're in the service industry and that's how you make tips, shouldn't you be hospitable? As we left I was horrified to see that this restaurant received an 82 sanitation grade. Where I come from, you have to be doing a lot wrong to get such a low sanitation mark. Really irked to have had such a lousy lunch while on vacation. I can't believe this little joint only has 16 reviews. When you do something right you should be patted on the back for it even more so than when you get something wrong. We had been wanting a hamburger done the right way for a while. Luckily we found Zuzu's and they got it right! We ordered the Black & Blue with onion rings and the fried green tomato cheeseburger with hand cut fries. Both excellent choices! Onion rings and fries both very good too. The blue cheese on the black and blue didn't over power the meat which so many people get wrong. It was spot on! Wish we had room for some of the ice cream.
