One of my favorite spots for top quality service, unique drinks and some of the best karaoke I've seen. From Disney to Deftones they are on it here! I feel like I've come to American Idol so definitely bring your A-game singers. This place has a cool horror theme to it and is always playing great thriller and horror flicks. From antidote syringe shots to plasma and blood bags as well as a full bar, you can't go wrong on the drinks. Don't let the cute blood bags fool you. They will sneak up on you. That blood bag has all sorts of ever clear and other goodies that I sadly can't recall. Heather and Steve always watch out for their customers and even when I've came solo I feel safe since they are always checking on me. This is our list of things we pay attention to at a venue and Zombies passed with flying colors: Vibe- from bouncer to bartenders (the main couple bartending are the owners) everyone is super friendly and welcoming and always acknowledges everybody Menu- digital menu accessed by a QR Code on the bar opens to a site full of great house drinks with a description of what they entail; really great prices and makes it a place we love to get drinks from and try new things Recreation- Pool, Punching Bag, Air Hockey ($1 per game quarters only) as well as Darts for free Cleanliness- bathrooms are scary at first due to the painted hands on the walls but are cleaner than your standard bar Misc. - Temperature is great, I get hot and she gets cold easy but we were well balanced throughout the night -Safety is a priority and the setup attracts people who all seem to be very chill and friendly -Owners opened up a neighboring smoke shop that has GREAT prices and we're always sure to stop by for a preroll or whatever else we're craving that night Last but not least, it's a Karaoke Bar, starting at 930 every open night, we LOVE to watch people go up and try their vocal cords out at a song they know every word to, and there's always a great response no matter how the performance went. 10/10 would recommend Zombies to anyone that asked read more

It is a hidden bar with enjoyable karaoke. The folks who were participating yesterday were talented with many different personalities. There are a lot of different drink options. Their specialty cocktails is what I would stick to, and their shots are available. I love their 'Starf*ck' cocktail. I've also tried their 'Tokyo Tea'; not too heavy on the melon liqueur. Note: these are not craft cocktails. It is not your typical bar, but feels more like a Halloween party every day. If you're a fan of dismembered limbs for decór and metal music, I've found your haven. For all the rest of us, this is still a pretty cool spot. I've been to Zombies a handful of times by now and I'm a fan. Its dark, low lit, and just a hair above your average dive bar ambiance-wise, but you CANNOT beat the drink specials. Ladies night (Wednesday) features Dos X for $1.50 (among a few others), there are shot specials every night, and if the jukebox isn't blasting there's normally live music or karaoke keeping everyone's heads bobbin. One of the owner's name is Toni, a neat lady who's either slinging drinks behind the bar or mingling with the guests. She introduced my group to a 'warm apple pie' cocktail that literally tasted like a slice of apple pie (even topped with whipped cream) and it might be my favorite thing ever. This is a lovely gem right off Nacogdoches and Thousand Oaks. I'd passed it plenty of times but figured it was some comic book store for the hardcore nerds, or some crappy indoor black light miniature golf course. But walking in I was pleasantly amused by the "zombie" and all-things-dead decor, and even more excited about their full bar and drink menu. They have some pretty awesome bartenders here that absolutely made me feel welcome. Smiles, explaining the drink menu and bar concept... They made a great first impression. Even the bouncer at the door was super-nice! On this particular night they hosted karaoke, so if that's your jam and you don't like big crowds, this is a good spot for you. Has the name suggests it's a heavy zombie theme. Blood splatter everywhere, blood smeared hands in the bathrooms. (Of course is not real blood.) I have never really been into metal. But oddly enough I really enjoyed myself. One of my military buddys is in a band and he invited us out to come drink with him. So we obliged. At first I was a little off put by all the screaming the bands were doing. Felt like some kind of devil worshiping was going on. I guess they were just doing what they were supposed to do. The drink prices are amazing. I would come back alone solely for the price of the drinks. I don't know if this is an insult to the metal community but, everyone is really friendly at this venue. If you want to listen to some death-metal and enjoy some good cheap drinks while shooting pool, this is the place for you. read more

I had driven by many, many times, but had no idea what I was walking into when some friends invited us to see a band. Zombies is definitely the theme here - oh, sorry, you wanted to be surprised? There are many body parts hanging around and the women's restroom walls are covered in red "bloody" hand prints. There is a nice size stage, and the sound system is pretty rad. There are dart boards and one of those punching machines. I believe they have karaoke every Sunday. The drink specials were insane! I haven't seen such great drink specials since I was going to school in San Marcos! And the PICKLE SHOTS! Literally, the best pickle shot I have ever had. The bartender and owner said "we take pride in our pickle juice." I could have drank that as a cocktail. I want to go back just for another pickle shot! I've been to this bar 3x or so and its definitely unique (the theme is Zombies, spoiler alert). They have a stage they use for live concerts and karaoke (I've only seen karaoke preformed the times I've been there). There are some really great singers and they are pretty impressive. The group seems to be late 20s-30s, working class people. The drinks are very reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly and try their best but at times are understaffed. The place is clean'ish. its hard to tell with all the blood and gut everywhere :P They do serve some small snacks: popcorn, nachos with cheese/chili, chips. My one complaint is that there is no functional outdoor area. They have taken part of the front parking lot and gated it off, but there are never enough chairs/tables and I feel really exposed as people drive by going to other businesses in the shopping center. read more

i was in town for San Japan weekend and i wanted to meet up with an old friend of mine. i told him i wanted to do karaoke and he suggested Zombies. i knew from the very moment i stepped in that i was going to LOVE this place! the theme/decor was so sick, zombie themed drinks/shots, full stage for concerts (punk/metal shows). the bartender we had (should've gotten her name) was really nice and was very attentive. KJ had a good selection of songs, just not the ones i wanted to do, but i always have alternatives so he's chill! overall, this is a place i will bring friends to where we can have a drink and jam to some music! for sure i'll be back next time i'm in town! read more

Come to this bar every week with my friends for karaoke. I have never been to one where I was comfortable enough to sing in front of a crowd. Very great vibe until you catch the door guys attention. The time being 1:58 and a buddy of mine is asked to step inside. Being a lil slow to respond the door man takes off his jacket as if we are about to be thrown out. I respectfully said there was no issue as at this point I feel unsafe. I was approached by a bar tender in the parking lot and told my friend wanted to mouth off to him. I love those big burly older dudes with long grey beards cross between biker rockers Mmmmm what can I say I have daddy issues lmao. Anywho the decor is fucking rad Halloween themed which is up my alley. They have horror movies playing even some of the legit animatronics from Home Depot and Spirit Halloween. I wanted the Jack in the Box! Drinks were delicious and prices were decent. Bartenders nice. But fucking hell. The karaoke killed my boner. Karaoke is just cringe to me period, but hey I get it if its your thing. I thought there would be maybe some, but then regular music or a band playing. Then these karaoke "goth" looking people end up singing fucking Eminem and country songs? Holy hell. Sounded like dead cats wailing. My first priority is always to dance. If not possible at least good music for a vibe. Music is my dealbreaker. So I just couldn't stand it any longer lol. I read on the website karaoke 6 days a week.....yeck. I see people stating they have live bands? Please tell me when!!!! I want to give this bar another chance cuz it was everything I dreamed except the Karaoke. Zombies is niche AF and they fully embrace it. This is not a dive bar you stop by on the way home for a few cold ones. This is a bar you go to when you wake up at 7pm, smudge your waterline with blackest black and need Radiohead + well Whiskey stat. The prize jewel of Zombies is their stage. Properly raised, fully lit and roomy, I'd imagine this is a dream stage for local musicians. There isn't much seating but usually these bands aren't the type for Austin-like dancing aka swaying back and forth while sitting down with an occasional finger snap. Beer is cheap, Virus Vodka flows and there's a patio to smoke your Reds. read more

A couple of months ago, my friend Donald called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to meet up with him around 10 for mid-week drink. I had plans to meet up with friends earlier in the evening, but looked forward to turning my night out into a little bar hop outing. When I asked where we would be meeting up, he informed me that he wanted to have drinks at Zombies(a metal bar that I had thought closed its doors for good). The space is pretty nice in respect to being a small venue that showcases live music. They have one of the best stages I've ever seen in a small space - in the city of San Antonio. The bar has a lot of cartoony/horror/gore/zombie stuff. Which is fine if you're into that kinda thing. It's a little over the top when you go to the bathroom and you see bloodstained hand prints on its doors and walls. The best thing the bar has going for itself is a respectful jukebox and great drink prices. I drank way too many 1.50 Alien Ale's and managed to stumble out of the place a lot later than I had originally intended to stay. The owner (and bartender?) was really friendly. We talked about metal and at one point - in the evening, a group of kids came in and asked if they could play a few songs. A show that night got canceled for some reason... before he said yes or no, he walked back over to the bar and asked everyone who decided to stay in on a slow night - what they wanted him to do. Let the kids play or let the Jukebox play back songs we all would rather hear. We all voted for drinking and jukebox songs... to which he agreed to and told the kids to come back another night. For some reason that gesture really rang well with me. Highly recommend it if you're into Metal and are in the area. read more

If you love the color black, have piercings and tattoos all over your body, and love rage music, consider this place your holy sanctuary. Me and some friends were having one of those adventurous nights of bar hopping when we stumbled upon this place. I swear its like walking into a haunted house. There are all of these halloween decorations up. They had like 10 tv's playing the wierdest 1980's horror flicks, and the band had the volume so high I couldnt even hear the bouncer ask for my id before I even entered the place. At first I was feeling a little out of place. I wanted to leave but my friends forced me to stay so I just hammered back the beers as fast as I could. After I got a little buzz going I started paying a little more attention to what was going on. If you watch the movies long enough, (5 minutes or so) you actually kinda get into em. Atleast I did. I found myself yelling at one of the tv's. " get out, no dont turn around he's running after you with a knife....omg this girl is seriously going back into the house." Then I started listening to the band. I tell you after about five or so beers they really sound prety good. We were in kind of a big group so people started migrating over and chit chating with us. Even one of the owners came by and bought us a shot of something I cant remember the name of. As the night went on and I started opening up to the place more. I started getting into the music more and more. There were tons of people in the place and it was crazy crouded. I made my way up to the front, and as soon as I did that a mosh pit formed. So after shoving some goth kids for a while, I made my way back to the bar, had a few more rounds, and then went off to another bar. All in all its a good place to try once. But unless your really into goth screamer music, I would maybe look past this place until Halloween. read more

I'm a try anything once kind of person. So Zombies was on the list, as I was tempted to bring my homemade broomstick with a motor and saw blade on the end (Dead Island reference) I decided not to. This is what I consider a dive bar with live music. SA town has been known for their underground rock your ears off scene. I went tonight (Friday) 3 acts that played from surrounding cities and of course local. No cover, which is a plus. My guests and I had beers, which they have some awesome specials. However, the Shiner was a little skunky. Not in a tasty acorn kinda of skunky. They have a good selection of brewskis. Which I was rather surprised. I chose Spaten Optimator, I was feeling German tonight. The first act was so-so, which drew my attention to the t.v. At first, I was like, "Hey I know this movie..." which then entailed to what the **** is that. It was similar to watching Faces of Death although in Korean, English, & some other country where I think their rating for R is the equivalent to U.S. NC-17. I had a little trouble ordering with the bartender. It was super loud.....mental note; don't have your stage facing directly at the bar. There is a slight science to the way you design your bar. Zombies has potential, I like the concept and the style. Unfortunately, they might reconsider hiring an interior decorator and perhaps an engineer to help gauge the place for better acoustics. But hey..... way to keep the rock scene alive on the N.E. Side. read more

Came here with a good friend on a Sunday night (it was her only night off). They were playing the Walking Dead on all their screens (of course) so we watched and chatted during the commercials. We were pleasantly surprised at the wide selection of drinks and how great the prices were (can't beat $1 watermelon Jell-O shots!). The bartender was friendly, even offering me a water after my friend left while I waited for my ride home. The music selection was great and it wasn't too loud. Haven't been able to make it back for any of their other nightly specials (i.e. open mic, live music, etc.) but I fully intend to before we leave town. But if you're not into zombies and gory decor, maybe this isn't the place for you. read more

I love this bar! Its not goth or any stereo types of that nature, at least not in my experience. The place is way to well lit for that. There was a decent mix of people and all were friendly. My band played here and got treated with the utmost respect from the bar tenderess, to the security and the owner. We got paid for our commute and even some free t-shirts ! I understand this location is fairly new, The old location was across the street and massive in size. This new venue is more conducive to local and small regional acts. The vibe was great, Love that they played THEY LIVE on the projector. OH yes if your a band with digital images like us they have a projector ! My only suggestions to the club would be this. 1- the sound guys needs to be in front of the stage to get a better mix. 2- Better stage lighting (more versatile) 3- two words FOG MACHINE !
