After reading Yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try while in town for work. I came in during happy hour after some long flights over, and I am so glad I did. I was worried about the hipster vibe a bit because I like really authentic places, but this place is truly a great place to visit. The bartender Sheldon was great with recommendations for food and brews. The Happy Hour here is no joke, and I get why it is so highly rated. You get live music while enjoying select delicious bites and draft beer for a great price. I originally ordered the Fried Olives, but it was suggested to do the Hummus Plate with the Fried Olives as an add on - incredible suggestion and a huge platter of good food! The beers here are a good selection between IPAs and Ambers, but there is no flight to try the selection. The bartenders can and do make pretty much any other cocktail suggested, and many others did the happy hour of a beer and shot for $8 option. The live music during Happy Hour was truly great! Many original songs and good talent with Eric Kegly. I also made conversation with some locals and the bartenders - all of whom were welcoming and kind with great local suggestions. The decor is fun and eclectic with great indoor and outdoor seating options. If I come back to Spokane, this location is definitely on the list. read more

Bizarre bathrooms. The men's is angled so to expose you if someone comes in at the wrong time. Towels are at a weird height. The women's has two toilets behind one locking door so unless you want to hold hands with your bff as you pee, it essentially only has one toilet, with the other going to waste. They aren't done figuring out how to arrange these bathrooms so they make sense. Fun seating and good drinks, though no filling/entree non-meat options. Put one veggie burger on the menu and I would raise it a star. read more

I stopped by on a Thursday night just after happy hour around 630p as it was conveniently right next to my hotel. It was pretty quiet, with only a few patrons. I ordered take out from the bar, which took a bit longer than usual as they were in the middle of changing cooks, but not painful. I got some groceries next door while I waited and the bartender was super nice and kept me updated and hydrated. Ordered a Mediterranean salad and the grilled cheese/tomato bisque combo. All of the food tasted delicious. Salad ingredients were fresh and the balsamic dressing was top notch. The grilled cheese was cooked well, and the bisque was both tasty and creamy, perfect for dipping or sipping. If I could choose a zero, I would have. I went there with some friends tonight. We were having a great evening. We sat by some really nice people who were in our Armed Forces. We thank them for their service. Everything was great up until I went up to the tall rude male bar maid and nicely asked who do I speak to about a discrepancy on our bill? All of a sudden I got attitude and he accused me of not paying my cover charge? When I initially was at the front door, they wanted to charge $10 for entrance and I stated I didn't have any cash and could I just put it on my bar bill and bring them $10 and the little doorman stated well there's a cash machine inside. I stated well I'd rather just put it on my bar bill so I wouldn't get charged a fee at the cash machine. He stated the door personnel is a totally different area? I stated I thought they all worked at the same place? And mentioned to him if they're different places, why did he have a Zola hat on? After I entered the door, I talked to one of the regular barmaids I had met in the past whom was very accommodating to allow me to use my card so I could give the doorman cash. We ordered a few drinks and about an hour later my friend received a bill for approximately $170? (I had bought drinks for the members of the armed forces we were sitting next to three women and one man). She noted that they were attempting to charge us another $30 for the entrance fee? My friend happen to pay the tall doorman on the way in without me knowing. I was subjected to total attitude from this guy who insisted on going talk to the little front door person who tried to state I did not pay however we did. In fact both my friends came to the front door in which the large door man stated "yeah they paid". The little doorman stated "well we will work this out". Then the unruly male barmaid started freaking out on me and then all of a sudden he and the little doorman told us we had to leave. I stated there was no reason for us to leave and we were were the ones being treated poorly. I went to speak to one of the bartenders whom I had known from several prior visits and the little doorman threatened me and stated don't make me physically get you out of here? I looked at him and stated don't you dare touch me. He ended up getting physical with me for no reason whatsoever I did not do anything wrong. They were in the wrong!! My friends could not believe he pushed me in a manner he did. There was no reason for it!! I was not over intoxicated whatsoever!! I couldn't believe how they treated us. It appears they have issues with females, especially the little doorman and the tall male bar maid. Gosh forbid you be a woman who stands up for her right!!!! As I have been looking back at some of the past reviews. It appears they even allowed a woman to be groped there and didn't do anything about it. How disgusting is that!!! This is a place I will never patronize again. I have been there multiple times within the past 10 years, I knew the prior owners who were very nice people and always treated people well. The doorman staff and the male bar maid have some real issues with women. Attention all women do not go there!! They do not have any respect for women whatsoever!! It appears the majority of the male staff there are extremely misogynistic and appear to have a lot of little man's syndrome going on. So sad this place could be so much better if they had better staff, especially at the front door and they need to fire the tall slender male barmaid. He's a piece of work. read more

Walking down the streets of Spokane for the first time when I saw this gorgeous officer with a great mustache... so cute I had to take a picture with him. I asked him for a recommendation for a good spot for food and drinks that didn't have a cover. Officer Handsome said if we hurried, we could beat the curfew if we went straight there and that's exactly what we did. He also suggested we try the macaroni n cheese and that's also exactly what we did. It was delicious and one of the best mac n cheeses I've ever had. Because of St. Patty's Day, I also ordered their corned beef sliders and they were also really good; they should really consider bringing this onto their normal menu. It was crowed but it was easy to find seating and this place feels super communal, so it was easy to make friends with the awesome party sitting next to us. I forgot our server's name but he was awesome as well. HE was super attentive and friendly. As we were leaving there was an awesome band that prompted my friend and we had to dance a little before we called an end to our night. I love Spokane and I love Zola! I loved this place! We were in town for a work conference and stopped in one night for some life music and a drink or two. They have Ace Pear Cider which is the best damn cider there is. They also spotlight some great bands. I had a blast and would highly recommend. PSA: they have a couples balcony or something where lots of couples go for privacy and making out. we had an appointment across the street that got done early so we popped in for some grub. the place is set up pretty cool with plenty of seating and a bar on the main level and a couple different upper level options that are open to the main floor. it looked like they had a couple private rooms also. we were greeted by a really outgoing bartender who explained all the above to us and one of their regulars recommended upstairs. so we trekked up to the 2nd level. there were high top tables and couches and these super cool 2 person booths made out of salvaged carnival rides. like half of one of the teacups from disneyland. server was prompt and courteous. she took our drink order. wife had a beer i stuck with water. they had a pretty good looking cocktail menu. we started with the artichoke dip. it came out nicely browned on top with thin crispy crostinis. It was creamy, fluffy, garlicky and had great flavor. It was not as warm as we would have liked but that can happen with thick dips. next we ordered our mains. I went with the blt with a cup of their tomatoe bisque. Wife had the grilled cheese with the bisque also. The bisque was really good. creamy tomato with a lot of garlic (we love garlic) and it had a little spice. not to much. very nice. the sandwiches were nothing to write home about. server offered a second and third beer. cashed us out promptly. read more

Spokane isn't exactly known for the best dining city in the world, however, Zola gives hope to the downtown area, particularly in the realm of happy hour specialties. In comparison to all locations visited, Zola proved a delight for small bite plates and inexpensive brews. With its recent expanded happy hour (now from 4pm-7pm), all day Sunday plus live music every night, what's not to like? Selected bottled beer - ONLY 1 DOLLAR! All items on their menu = $5.50. Contrary to other listed reviews, service times were reasonable with no issues, granted I got there early at about 5:30 PM on a Wednesday. Here is what disappeared into my belly: Zola Mac - Mac and Cheese Pasta Tubes with Bacon - creamy, rich and delicious. Santa Fe tacos - Choice of flour or corn tortillas with either fish or chicken. Got the corn tortillas and the fish option. Toppings included salsa, tomatoes, lettuce and guac. Works just fine for me. Thai peanut satays - three skewers of two shrimp and a mahi mahi fish, all with sides of cucumbers and peanut sauce. Easy to eat. Blue cheese fries - not really hard to make and simple to munch and crunch those crispy fries with that creamy blue cheese dip. Caprese - mix of toppings (balsamic mix, greens, cheese and tomato) cooked atop mini bread slices. Goes great with my beer, which I must mention is only $1 a bottle! Lastly, the chef special of the day - shaved pork belly with pepper jelly sliders. These melt in your mouth with the right amount of belly and sweet pepper inside a soft bun. The restaurant decor, entirely constructed of recycled materials, exuded the Northwest "going green" theme we all know and love. In addition, they offer private rooms and nook areas to hang away from the crowd, if desired. Just to preface: THIS REVIEW IS BIASED To better explain, the crowd here is a bit older than I was expecting. Nothing wrong with that, but a bit older than the crowds at places I usually go. By "older", I mean mid 30's-ish. That being said, I had a great time at this place. There was a noisy, vintage-type band playing and everyone seemed to be having a great time. They have Arrogant Bastard on tap, so my beer needs were met. Also, despite the place being packed, service was very prompt and friendly, I was really impressed. The interior is very unique and it's almost worth going in just to see it. Lots of cool "old stuff" (just like the people *rimshot*) like those teapots you'd see at a carnival. Love the tilt-a-whirl style seats on the second floor with easy viewing access to the stage.
