Introduction: Last of the current alphabet series! Z is for Zips Cleaners representing 2024. And also this is coincidentally my 800th Yelp review!! After this before moving onto 2025, I will go back through runner-ups of businesses letters where I chose an out of town location, and I wanted to pick a place that was local to DMV: Central MD, northern VA, or DC. For example, my next review will be the letter K from 2018 in Silver Spring as a runner-up to one I wrote in Wilmington, DE. This is an effort to support places local to my area. Experience: I rarely get dry cleaning these days as I mainly work from home, but every once in a blue moon I'll need. There's 2 dry cleaners near me in Maryland City, which I used before, which both had annoyed me, and their prices went way up, which further annoyed me. I decided I was willing to drive over to Laurel potentially (since I think there were only the 2 in Maryland City, and Laurel was the next closest area for dry cleaning), but I looked online for pricing & reviews of various places. I called to clarify pricing. I was a bit skeptical of Zips as I had heard some not good things about them when I lived in northern VA, so I never went. I called the Laurel Zips, and the woman was very nice answering my questions. The prices were much more reasonable. So, I was willing to take a gamble on them. I went, the same woman was friendly in person, and the clothes were ready at the promised time. I didn't get overcharged, had any issues, & the clothes came out well. I'll consider Zips Laurel to be my go to dry cleaner. read more

I would not recommend this cleaners at all. They lack professionalism, accountability, and basic communication. They broke a belt I entrusted to them and took 11 weeks to attempt to fix it. Instead of properly repairing the belt, they replaced a part with an old, rusted piece--without ever contacting me to explain or follow up. As the customer, I had to continuously call and check in for updates. After holding my belt for 11 weeks, the manager never once reached out to apologize, provide a status update, or take responsibility. I will never--and I mean never--recommend or support this Zips Cleaners (location in Laurel, MD). read more

I like the express pick up upon arrival at the store. You bypass the line at the door which can be quite long.

This was my first time utilizing the services of ZIPS. The employee that helped me was most knowledgeable and made the process easy. Dropped my jackets off at 8 am and was able to pick them up by 4 pm. Quality of the dry cleaning was excellent and the price is right. I will definitely be back soon! read more

As a first timer at this store it was Great and fast, one day but the estimated time for my pickup became more early which is good because I didn't have to wait until the afternoon to go pick up my stuff. The employees are very nice! Just a real good experience. read more

Please don't go to this Zips. The "manager" is a thief. I brought in an expensive hoodie in and when I get it back my drawstrings are gone. I was told that they don't cover damaged accessories. That I can understand but for a drawstring to leave the hoodie and the entire store. Todays drawstrings have metal pieces and distinguish designs so I can see why she would allow her or her staff to steal. The drawstring didn't go out for a smoke with the workers and just didn't return to my hoodie. I would never go back here only to watch them shut down this location. I got no response no consideration that I spent money on my clothes and then spent money on them to have my stuff not come back in a reasonable state. I wish I didn't have to give a star to this f*ck place. read more

This location needs to be checked out as the level of bad service continues to increase coupled with the "I don't care attitude" of almost all the staff starting with the manager. This is the 4th time back to back that I'm requesting heavy starch for my shirts only to pick up and not even light starch. I stressed this enough yesterday December 16th trying to get same day drop off 9 am and pick up 5pm only to be told to return back. When I came in to pick up, the lady that attended to me told me my shirts were starch " Which was a lie" and thankfully, her colleague told her it was not when she got into an unnecessary argument with me. Anyways, this is extremely unacceptable and makes absolutely no sense simply because it is not a one off and they just don't care and never resist showing it with their bad attitude. Hopefully my shirts will be ready when I pick up today Dec 17th. Update 18Dec2019. Picked up shirts today and everything is as good as it should have been the very first time. Hope this location keeps the much appreciated standard that was forever there a while ago. Hate to write bad reviews but was pushed to the wall as it turned out to be the 4th time. I wish I didn't have to give any stars. Don't take your clothes to the Laurel Maryland location for seamstress service. I was told it would take two weeks to take in a pair of woman pants. I went back in two weeks and was told she needed another week. I went back two weeks later and was told she wasn't in and to come back next week. I went there Thursday and she hadn't even started on them. They were on a rack with several other garments. I took my pants back and got my $16 dollars back. This is by far the worst experience I've had. Don't give them your business. They told me they gave my comforter to another customer. The store manager Lori said once the customer brings my comforter back she will dry clean it again and then give it back to me. I told her I do not want my comforter back after a stranger has used it. It has been over 30 days and they still have yet to reimburse me for it. Then the manager tells me today that they are going to reimburse me, however, the insurance company will depriciate the value of my comforter. I had to consistently email and go to Zips in person about my comforter. Today I went to zips to follow up about my comforter and saw the manager speaking with another customer. Zips lost one of his sneakers. Lori gave him one sneaker and said she believes the other one fell behind the washing machine and she will contact him once she finds it. Unacceptable!!!!! read more

We took in 6 expensive curtains that are dry clean only. And the only reason we took them in is the fact that they're a type of fabric which is "dry clean only" otherwise it will shrink. A point we specified when the curtains were dropped off. But after Zips "cleaned" them, the front of the curtains (the dry-clean fabric) are 1-2 inches shorter than the back. So several hundred dollars worth of curtains no longer fit our windows. I don't recommend Zips for anything that needs to retain its shape or size. read more

I am so unhappy with Zip cleaners because they fail to take responsibility for ruining my wool coat. The manager left me a voice message stating that it is possible that the belt on my coat (which is polyurethane) could melt over time. What does over time mean? This is not acceptable. When I tried to call her back, she did not answer or not returned my call. After I file a claim, I will update my review. I'm also disappointed that now I have to find a new cleaners. A one star is completely generous! I've used this Zips for years but I can tell you the service now is just awful! My clothes had the same stains on them! Nothing looked cleaned or pressed well! I don't know what happened here managers, people etc but surely something has changed! If as a company your standard is not good quality work then don't stay open! I will not be back which mean I'll need to go out of my way to find another location instead of just traveling 5mins to this Laurel store! We used to go the Zips in Glen Burnie when we lived near there. They weren't perfect, but they worked at friendly customer service and we were quite satisfied with them. This franchise in Laurel is nowhere near their level and is deteriorating. Clothes are ready on time, yes, but we get the strong impression that nobody there gives a damn. No one bothers to learn your name - the only greeting you get is "next customer." The work is often careless. For example, I bring in creased men's trousers for cleaning. It's obvious that they have always been pressed with the crease front and back, yet on more than one occasion this Zips has delivered them pressed side to side. I specify "no starch" in my shirts, but they often come back stiff as a board. Clearly they just don't care. read more

This place use to be good. They had two friendly sisters that used to work in the front and when you walk in the atmosphere are used to be great. I dropped off some suits and shirts yesterday and came in this morning to pick it up had requested heavy starch on all the shirts five out of my 12 shirts had heavy starch in the other ones Didnt. The girl at the front desk you can tell she didn't want to be there and she was really kind a nasty attitude. I asked her what happened with other shirts these are not heavy starch and her response as well we can do it again. Not good way i'm Customer Service there's no need to be nasty about it it's your job if a customer ask you what happened. The low prices are offset but terrible service which isn't resolved by the absentee manager. Counter staff can't address poor cleaning services and punt to the never-there manager who subsequently confuses issues to avoid helping the customer. The ownership team, posted on the wall near the door, may be oblivious to conditions or uncommitted to the store. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place. The customer service is good and the Store Manager is polite, but the quality of service is pathetic. I've been a customer here for two years now. I took two ties to this cleaners. Both ties were two of my favorites. One tie was just a little dirty and the other had a spinach juice stain. Not too bad. I paid my money upfront and was told to return in a few days. I returned a few days later and my tie had burns all over it and there was a hole in it. The other time wasn't even cleaned and the stain was still there. I was pissed. I spoke to Laurie (the Manager) and she told me to give her some time to try to take care of it. That was a week ago. Also, there is no corporate number. I was trying to reach corporate to no avail. The most I was able to do was send a lengthy message to their "Contact Us" mailbox. I wouldn't recommend this place. They ruined my FAVORITE tie. I'm not even sure if I can replace the tie because I have no idea where I got it from a few years ago. It was a store in Charlotte that I just happened to pass by as a tourist. I saw the tie in the window, went in and brought it. That was three years ago. Thanks for nothing, ZIPS. Over one year ago, Zips Laurel damaged my 100% silk Lily Pulitzer blouse and led me down the garden path to resolve the issue which was to file a claim and be reimbursed. The blouse was only worth $60. They had cleaned it once. I'd only worn once since it was a summer, sleeveless blouse. The manager there was horrible. She was nasty and angry that I would continue to pursue the issue. This was the reason I was pursuing it. I filed a complaint with the MD consumer office and Zips wouldn't even comply with the State. No wonder they had to reduce their space. They used to have a major operation there but now it's half the size. I'm sure they'll be out of business soon. read more

If there was actually a zero stars or better yet, a NEGATIVE stars, I would choose that to comment on this business. They were so unprofessional. That's the word I'd use to describe them civilly. Every dress shirt practically came back damaged. These were NOT some cheap designer knock offs, they included brands like Burberry and POLO Ralph Lauren. They were obvious because all the shirts came back with a hole in the left or right elbow. Please note that they shirts were fine before and had gone through a myriad of dry cleanings--and then, This happened to about 6-8 shirts of mine. I considered suing in small claims court but it was just not worth my time. I would rather write a sh***y review in hopes that it would reach a wider audiience, that might reach them fiscally--as in the pocketbook. I visited the Zip Cleaners on Friday, December 7, 2018, at 12:02 pm., located 14705-C Baltimore Ave., and I met (2) "AMAZING" ladies: Evelyn who waited patiently with the most beautiful smile for me to gather all of my belongings and placed them on the counter with her assistance. Evelyn spoke with the seamstress about some of my garments, which me and my husband met. She, also was with the most amazing smile. I will always go that ZIPS location! Jennifer today was very a very happy young lady. she was quick with getting my clothes and offered to take them to my car for me, because i was on my cane. loved her smile. cheerful young lady. will be going back again. I've used this Zips off and on since it opened, but the service is beyond subpar. Any request to not crease pants will be misinterpreted by the tagger and your pants will be ruined. I also brought an expesive polo shirt in that came back with some random stain on it. The management is nice enough, but the service is less than very poor. Try another cleaners. read more

So initially I, like everyone else, was drawn to their irresistible prices. As usual my father was right: You get what you pay for. The clothes came back pretty and pressed, but they never really felt or smelled 100% CLEAN. The service was also hit or miss. Some days I got the friendliest person in the world, other days I got some rude guy who literally conducted my ENTIRE transaction without saying a single word to me (starting with him just STARING at me when it was my turn to be helped instead of actually saying "Next") None of that really matters, though. The dry cleaning could be free with Mary Poppins helping me, if it doesn't come back clean, there's no point. read more

This has been my go-to cleaners for years. Apparently a few weeks ago their servers crashed which is typically beyond one's control. They decided to avoid telling everyone and lost tons of peoples stuff and handed stuff out to the wrong people including my expensive pants. They actually lost 3 of my comforters but were able to locate 2/3. I get that this is a franchise so people probably don't care if folks leave bad reviews but you can't just treat people and their stuff any kind of way. The manager literally told me throughout the month she would call me back, never did. And always had a long story about how she's been working 16 hour days and how this is beyond her control. Mistakes happen but one thing you can always control is customer service and professionalism. She's unprofessional and blames everything on everyone but herself to get you to sympathize, yet she does the absolute bare minimum to address your issues, doesn't even call he folks to follow up on their stuff she helped lose. I had to wait a month (by law) to file a claim. I just went in there and she walks up to me with disgust and annoyance...and me wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, gives her yet another chance to be polite and maybe apologize for losing my stuff. I asked "what happened here, do you think it's fixed?" She responded "what does it look like happened?!" All in all they made a poor decision to cut their store in half renovating and REFUSED to close down for maintenance. I'm sure this could've all been avoided if they had done so. This is a very good place to get dry cleaning at, especially at a moment's notice. Whenever I have an event for JROTC within the week, I can always drop it off and get it the next day. The staff there is always very friendly, I do not remember all of their names but one of the employees I can remember is Mark, he is easy to work with and gets the job done quick and without worry, dropping off my uniform while he is working is very fast and easy. At this location, I have always enjoyed great customer service. Am greeted like an old friend, including by store manager Laurie. The speed meets or beats that of any competitor. The ZIPs on Tech Road is full of nice staff, too, but the Laurel location has a special machine that cleans unusual items such as stuffed animals and pillows. YOU CAN GET BELTS AND SHOES CLEANED TOO! So you can save hundreds of dollars when you go ahead and buy great used items a thrift stores! Staff will carry items to a customer's car and sometimes offer to do so! read more

This may be too generous but I'm giving them 2 stars: 1 for the prices - $1.85 per piece (plus tax) 1 for most of my experiences there being hassle-free Except for my most recent experience. Let me preface what might end up to be a fuming review by saying that I rarely go to the dry cleaner. I am confident in my ability to take care of my own clothes with the exception of those made of wool (I have been known to shrink a sweater or 2 and using Woolite still scares me). When I lived in Laurel, I would occasionally stop by Zips for my one or two items to be dry-cleaned. Never any problems. There is no Zips where I live now so I checked out some of the smaller places closeby and they charge at least $5 per item which is just outrageous to me. So I decided to return to Zips for my dry-cleaning needs. I brought in about 10 items this time (I was way overdue and completely out of wool sweaters to wear). I also wanted my winter coat cleaned and needed the pockets to be resewn properly to attach to the coat. (I need a lesson or two in sewing; tried to repair it myself but this did not work.) This cost maybe $10 more, I'm not positive but I was willing to have a professional take care of it as long as I didn't have to worry about doing it myself. Why the thought didn't cross my mind to have my mom do it for me, I have no idea. So, I drop off my things, pay in advance, cash only. Was told it would not be ready the next day because of the hemming to be done. I should come back in 5 days. Ok, no problem. I come back in 6 days because I'm in the area then. All my dry-cleaned stuff is ready. However, the clerks behind the counter are whispering about my coat, "I think she took it with her to work on..." and then tell me, "Sorry, your coat won't be ready for another 2 days." Now, I'm not one to complain and make a scene about service, so I'm thinking, alright that kind of sucks, but what can I do? Except WHY is my coat not even there?? The seamstress took it home to work on?! This was not a major job by any means that required extensive work. What if she spills something on it? This just did not seem right. So I bit the bullet and left. Came back in a few days and the coat was ready, stitching had been done. What a relief! I could not get out of there fast enough. I get to the car before I realize, "Hey I better just look this coat over in case something's wrong." Well, there was. The coat looked like it hadn't even been dry-cleaned!! In all the hustle and bustle of getting the dang thing hemmed, they didn't clean it. So I went back in pretty peeved. The clerks I talked to each time were actually very nice. I expressed my dissatisfaction and told them that I thought my time as well as the gas money I spent going back and forth to this horrid place should be worth something. The manager did not agree (clearly had no regard for customer service). She offered to dry-clean it for free "again". I should have just taken the coat and left. But that would mean I'd still have to take it to another place to get cleaned. So I left it. Again. When I finally returned to retrieve my poor, destitute coat, it still didn't look like it had even been touched. At this point, I finally realized the moral of the story: You pay for what you get. Clearly these people (or the manager at least) could care less about the customers. It pays to go to a family-owned business. Shame on me. For someone with family that was in the dry-cleaning business, I should know better. read more

After calling the police, waiting around for the unapologetic manager and writing several bad reviews, I got a call from the manager stating they found my clothes.
