I had my first experience with Mega Cleaners recently. Someone came and picked up my 9 pieces and…read moregave me an estimate time for delivery. They reached out again to confirm drop off, and the process has been pretty smooth. Probably the best experience I've had so far with a dry cleaner.

We had a small oriental rug that needed cleaning. Before taking it to them, I asked them if they…read moreperformed that service. They said yes. Then, after we had given them the rug, they called and asked if we would mind if they sent it out to another service that they thought would do a better job. We said sure, if you think that's a good idea. Two and a half weeks later, I was notified and picked up the rug. The edge on one entire side had been destroyed. Whoever cleaned it had stuck little tags on it saying it was damaged when they got it, but that was a straight-up lie. It was in excellent condition when I brought it in and only somewhat dirty. The other edge had some damage, but not as much. We are now pricing rug repair to the tune of $350 or more. We don't know much about rug cleaning and so, perhaps, should have known we should have taken it to a specialist. But they also should have been honest with us when we asked whether that was a service they performed. Basic honesty about what you can or can't do is a trademark of good service. So we've learned our lesson, but it's been an expensive one. I should add that during this process I called them a couple of times and was not able to leave them a message. They also have a paper sign posting COVID hours on their door, but haven't bothered to update Google search or their website. So there were a couple of extra fruitless trips and phone calls involved in this whole process, as well.

So my experience: Well its 2012 and everyone emails/texts nonstop. I expected some sort of communication after I left my dress with the doorman for them to pick it up. Instead there was NO email/voicemail, nothing. I had been told before the pickup that my dress would be ready on one of 2 dates, and was also never updated on that. For all I know they could have never received it. They were also extremely difficult to contact as their manager was out of town and I was left only with a phone number that took me to a voicemail with 100 different prompts (again email age people!) After I followed all those prompts and left a voicemail, I did receive a call back with the information I needed (like pulling teeth!). That being said, let's get down to business-the quality of dry cleaning! I used them for my wedding dress which was complicated with a very poofy, voluminous bottom. They had my dress for over a week and when I received it (it was returned on time), there were sadly still pieces of GRASS on the bottom. Now, my dress has many different materials and is complicated...but that's why I went to a professional dry cleaner. Also was unhappy to find out that the tiny buttons that had fallen off were not replaced. They are a specific type of button, so now i have to take a trip to the tailor? Disappointing. Overall: 5 stars for friendly & for family business 2 star for lack of communication and frustration 2 stars for quality of drycleaning

No proactive communication, no clear explanation--just excuses when I followed up. Despite the excessive delay and poor service, I was still expected to pay full price, as if everything went smoothly. No discount, no apology worth mentioning, no accountability. If you value your time, your belongings, or basic customer service, go somewhere else. Holding an item hostage for over a month and then charging full price is unacceptable. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Introduction: Last…read moreof the current alphabet series! Z is for Zips Cleaners representing 2024. And also this is coincidentally my 800th Yelp review!! After this before moving onto 2025, I will go back through runner-ups of businesses letters where I chose an out of town location, and I wanted to pick a place that was local to DMV: Central MD, northern VA, or DC. For example, my next review will be the letter K from 2018 in Silver Spring as a runner-up to one I wrote in Wilmington, DE. This is an effort to support places local to my area. Experience: I rarely get dry cleaning these days as I mainly work from home, but every once in a blue moon I'll need. There's 2 dry cleaners near me in Maryland City, which I used before, which both had annoyed me, and their prices went way up, which further annoyed me. I decided I was willing to drive over to Laurel potentially (since I think there were only the 2 in Maryland City, and Laurel was the next closest area for dry cleaning), but I looked online for pricing & reviews of various places. I called to clarify pricing. I was a bit skeptical of Zips as I had heard some not good things about them when I lived in northern VA, so I never went. I called the Laurel Zips, and the woman was very nice answering my questions. The prices were much more reasonable. So, I was willing to take a gamble on them. I went, the same woman was friendly in person, and the clothes were ready at the promised time. I didn't get overcharged, had any issues, & the clothes came out well. I'll consider Zips Laurel to be my go to dry cleaner.

They broke a belt I entrusted to them and took 11 weeks to attempt to fix it. Instead of properly repairing the belt, they replaced a part with an old, rusted piece--without ever contacting me to explain or follow up. As the customer, I had to continuously call and check in for updates. After holding my belt for 11 weeks, the manager never once reached out to apologize, provide a status update, or take responsibility. I will never--and I mean never--recommend or support this Zips Cleaners (location in Laurel, MD).
