When I picked it up it was totally ruined. The only resolution that they told me was that they would refund my dry cleaning fee or try to dry clean it again. I only wore this item one time . We had a antique heirloom quilt with gold work drycleaned. It had an oil stain and we were told it is not guaranteed to be cleaned. I was shocked when I received it. They never said a word. It was given back in wet condition, completely wrinkled out and two big tears and a darker stain. Don't use these guys! read more

You would think that because you are in Columbia, the customer service and quality experience would be high. Unfortunately this place is a complete waste of time. I've come here two other times before and each time it's something. Today marked my final patronage of this location. I came to pick up my blazer. The gentleman said that he couldn't find it. Another lady took over then she said she couldn't find it. After 4 staff members looked, they said that they would call me when they found it. Smh. My drive from Baltimore was a complete waste. I have visit the Zips at their openiing time of 7 am on many occasions, as I work close by Columbia Mall. While I should have been warned in arriving at this openiing time, only to leave after 15 mins because no one showed up. this morning the same thing took place, but I was more upset then ususal. I have been a customer of ZIPS for 5 years. In that time, I frequently received dress shirts back with damaged buttons, but I repair them easily so it did not bother me. Now, for the 4th time in 3 years, they have damaged a shirt (put a 2-inch tear through the middle of the chest). And for the 4th time, they completely deny that they caused the damage (or in one case, lost the shirt altogether!). I am finished with ZIPS in Columbia. I will never go back. ZIPS is cheap, but this location is careless with your garments. They are not recommended. read more

This is the worst dry cleaner I've ever been to. As soon as you walk in the place reeks like people smoke cigarettes inside. I picked up my $200 comforter I needed cleaned, and it smelled worse when I got it back. Now I have to find somewhere else to take it and pay to have it cleaned once again. Don't go to Zips! The location in Ellicott City, MD couldn't find my son's JROTC uniform. I went to the location in Ellicott City on the day it was supposed to be ready for pick up but they "couldn't find it". I was told to come back when the manager was working (he wasn't working that day). I ended up spending hours calling and speaking to different people trying to locate his uniform. I went to the location in Maple Lawn (that's where the uniform was sent for cleaning and was told "it might be there"). The uniform was FINALLY located (days after the pickup date on my receipt AND at a different location). The employees at the Ellicott City location barely made attempts to help & just told me they couldn't find the uniform. I will tell everyone I know to avoid Zips! read more

This is my first visit to ZIPS dry cleaners. I brought in my comforter to be cleaned. I was immediately asked about my payment method. The ZIPS staff inspected my comforter, and inquired out the stains on the comforter. Embarrased, I asked why they were asking about the stains since it was being brought in to be cleaned. One the Zips staff members, stated they were concerned about possible bodily fluids. Payment was provided. I had to sign a disclaimer. I was then told that my comforter would be cleaned ten days afterwards. I don't believe, I will visit this establishment again. read more

Still one star but when I went to pick up the garment, still stained. Candy asked for time to try again (it was there 4 days) and since I was already suffering, I said why not. Magically the stains were cleaned and I picked the garment up on Monday. When I left, I knew it was the LAST time I'd go into this business. Pay the extra and take your garments elsewhere. If you're reading this and haven't been burned yet, trust me, your time will come. Lost/broken/burned buttons, credit card machines not working, equipment not working (they won't call you and let you know not to come by that evening so you waste time and gas) surly employees, the list goes on. I rarely need a dry cleaning but I spilled a cocktail on my attire which I got from India. It has a delicate cloth and the possibility of color fade if I do hand wash . I have had good service from Zips in Columbia. They have always done a good job for me. That is until lately when I found out that they no longer can do next day service and that they send all cleaning out to another facility. I don't want to take the risk of my clothes leaving the Columbia facility and going to I do not know where With a longer turn-around. I am sad to have to switch since I like the people at Columbia. I've used ZIPS many times in differing locations but this one happens to be the absolute worst of them all. My last visit was actually my last. All of my shirts were nicely pressed, with medium starch. However, none were clean and actually had the smell and look of a soiled shirt. Once I had a button missing and the other chewed up. When I pointed this out to the staff they placed a pin and some sort of ticket beside it. I assumed that mean they would repair same. Nope, came back just as I presented it to them. read more

I didn't realize how much my comforters smelled like dog until I started packing for a big move, and of course by then I did not have time to turn them in and wait a week. I called Zips and asked how fast they could get them done, and I guess I sounded super stressed or something because the manager was really nice. My boyfriend and I have been longtime customers of ZIPS Dry Cleaners. We used the one in Scaggsville, Md. (Intersection of Routes 29 and 216), and the location in Laurel, Md., for years with rarely a problem. Great prices in a sour economy, convenience and fast service. What's not to love? The ZIPS Dry Cleaners in Scaggsville not only does a good job with our laundry, but its owner, Samir Thakkar, is a friendly, personable man who, when he's in the store, always greet us with a smile and remembers our names. When I did have an issue in the past, searching for an item I had had dry-cleaned, he responded helpfully, even taking the time to go through the store's video footage, and eventually resolving the issue. So, you can imagine how happy we were to find out that a ZIPS location had opened just around the corner from where we lived in Columbia, Md. Thoughts of convenience...saving time and gas on trips to the dry cleaners... were in our minds. However, it took only one visit to this new store to change our minds about ever coming back. My boyfriend picked up our laundry and noted soon after that my new red cashmere sweater, just recently purchased, was missing. In its place, oddly enough, was a smelly worn large sweater we'd never seen before, with gaping holes under the armpits of the garment. There was no tag attached to it. However, it had most definitely come to us on one of many wire hangers, part of the package of garments we had turned in the day before, but without my favorite new sweater. The very next day my boyfriend called the store and asked them to look for my red sweater, because he was concerned it would accidentally go home with someone else, potentially the owner of said smelly sweater. He was told someone could help us when we could physically come in after work that evening. We had counted the items on the hangers when picking up our laundry, satisfied that it all was there, and technically, it all did add up to the correct number of items. One of us had tossed the receipt. When we did show up, this new store's owner continued to point out that the old sweater we returned had not been dry-cleaned, over and over... something we already knew by the way that it reeked. He was immediately defensive, seeming to insinuate that we were liars, bringing in some garment he'd never seen before and making up our complaint. Sure, that's what I do in my spare time after I work and commute all day. Find clothing that smells like garbage, so I can try to wrangle better garments out of unsuspecting dry cleaner business owners. Not likely. This man was not helpful or even willing to assist from the beginning. He kept telling us because we did not have our original receipt he could not help us. When this happened in the past, Samir, at the Scaggsville location, had courteously responded and looked up our last order in the system, checked the video camera footage and showed a caring attitude. The only way I was able to get my garment back at this Columbia location was to request that I be able to step behind the counter myself and look through the circulating row of garments awaiting pickup from customers. Finally I did find it, hanging in the midst of someone else's clothing, with no tag on it, and nothing to indicate it belonged to me. It was definitely mine though... same style, same size, exactly. The owner handed over a card to have one garment dry-cleaned for free. But I can tell you that I will not be redeeming it at that location. We will take our business elsewhere, even if it means driving a few more minutes down the road. I don't know if the owner of this new location is just plain unfriendly and unhelpful, or responded in this way because he doesn't know what he's doing -- like how to look up an order in his own system. There definitely should have been a record under our account, but he was more focused on telling us it was out of his hands because we didn't have a receipt on us. Furthermore, when we explained that it could be looked up in the system, because this had been done for us elsewhere, he was quick to point out that this is a "different" ZIPS. For sure, it is. Take my advice. If you live in Columbia, head to Scaggsville. The exit is right off of 29. It's convenient, and you don't have to argue to get your own clothing back. The parking is extremely limited at the Columbia location as well. We couldn't even get a parking spot on the evening we stopped by. read more

In the past I have used Zips religiously. I don't know what happened, but this store has gone down hill and I will no longer use the franchise, they simply do not deliver on their "promise." Read all the previous posts, I really don't have anything new to add. I just nod my head in agreement. I can say that in my experience they did not loose any clothes (or at least not that I'm aware of, I really did take a lot of clothes there). I am not convinced that these guys actually clean the cloths and now, apparently, they don't know how to press/iron them either. Best to avoid and spend your money somewhere else. read more

This dry cleaner is horrible. Never enough staff. Have to wait in line over 45 mins to drop off and pickup clothes!?! Customer service is awful. One guy in particular is absolutely clueless, but don't know his name because they don't wear name tags. Lady in front of me was missing items and all he could tell her "I don't know what happened to them". Clothes come back still feeling dirty. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Please avoid at all costs!!! My husband and I dropped off several men's shirts and 3/10 were ruined. They were either burned or ripped. I went back to for a refund and yes it was after 30 days and they would not honor my requests. We did not notice they were ruined until now (first time opening the dry cleaning). I have to agree with the majority of reviews here. I used this particular zips for about 4 months because of the price. The service was good and people friendly to an extent. I have been getting my mens dress shirts cleaned for years usually at one of those local cleaners. Rarely did i ever lose a collar stay. This Zips loses almost every collar stay. When I asked them if they knew why they were so good at this they didn't know. I said well could I get my collar stays back. She said we don't have any. I asked then where do they go? She didn't know. ???? The quality of the work they do is very consistent. Consistently poor. I would get shirts back and they usually had wrinkles pressed into the shirts. One time the tip to one of the collars was actually pressed back upon itself. I mean the person pressing the collar had to make a decided attempt to accomplish that and then had to practice incredible blindness to not see what they had just done. It was so obvious. They destroyed the hem of a pair of very nice suit pants. These infractions may not be as grave as ruining a wedding dress but the quality of work is very sub-par. Do yourself a favor and pay more at a local cleaner or another zips but do not use this one. read more

UPDATE: So they never called back after calling about my missing shirt. I finally went in and found it in a pile in the back of the store. The lame manager gave me a $10 credit. I used it...BAD IDEA!!! MY clothes came back like they were never cleaned...slightly pressed. When I got home I FOUND SOMEONE ELSES CLOTHES MIXED IN WITH MINE!!!!!! Horrible customer service! Have to agree with other reviews here. I used this cleaner because it is close to my house and reasonable prices. Over the last year, they lost three items on different occasions - eventually found them but I wasn't thrilled. Today, I went in the early afternoon to drop off clothes and waited more than 5 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge me. While I was waiting, 4 people came in behind me. There were a number of women working on bagging and cleaning clothes but all the counter people (young men) were wandering around and joking. When the guy finally came up to the counter, didn't apologize for the wait. While I was waiting, I realized all the people who do the hard work are women and all the counter staff are men. So I will drive much farther to get my clothes cleaned and maybe the owner will stop gender discrimination and promote their female staff. read more

Update 7/25/14 2.5 stars On 7/18, I received a call from the Kevin Kirkpatrick, the manager of the Columbia Zips. He promised to make a thorough search for my blouses and call me back the next day, On 7/19, Mr. Kirkpatrick did call me back . The blouses had not been found. He gave me an offer in settlement of my claim for the missing items. The offer was fair and reasonable, especially considering the disclaimer on the reverse side of the claim receipt. (The company will pay no more than 30 times $1.99, the price to clean the item). I will still encourage people not to bring valuable items to Zips, but I do believe they resolved my claim in a fair way. If my blouses every show up, I will gladly return the money. This place's customer service is the worst I have ever received. They ruined my dress, never admit that they ruined it!! The messed up my dress, never admit they did the dry clean wrong. The dress is from B&W, I sent it to this store to dry clean it twice. The first time it came back fine, the second time, all white area on the dress was dyed by the black color!! The address is totally damaged! When I asked them to compensate me for the cost of the dress, they refused to admit that they did something wrong that caused the white area dyed by the black color. They said that is due to manufacture defect!!! Few months later, when I went back to the store asking to have the dress back, I was told that they have donated it to somewhere!! How could they donate my dress without letting me know!!!!!! They are not responsible for their error or mistake, do not take care their customer properly. No communication properly delivered to its customers. They are making money from customers but they do NOT care their customers!! Yes Yelp, this dry cleaner is A-OK. My family pretty much brings everything here, including sweaters, blouses, trousers, dresses and whatever else has a dry clean only label. I agree with other reviewers who say that their clothes don't really feel "clean" once they're dry-cleaned. I prefer to take heavy duty items like coats, blankets, comforters, and suits to a high-grade dry cleaner. This location also features a seamstress. I had the hem put back in a dress for about $6. It hasn't fallen out again, so I'm pleased. NB: This location is cash only! But there is an ATM on site. read more

They get points for having later hours and friendly staff. There is a guy there (Kevin, I think) who even remembers my name when I go there, which is very cool. They do except credit cards if your total is $10 or higher. but..... I liked this place at first. Now they have gotten sloppy. Recently I had at least 3 pairs of pants come back to me with a mildew type of smell on them. Also I have had the quality of some clothes, that had always been fine when dry cleaned at "regular" cleaners, shrink and/or fade. The 3 pairs of pants with the smell were so bad that I sprayed them with febreze and took them to a regular cleaners. I did not even bother to smell the rest of the clothes I had picked up along with those and just dumped them in a laundry bag and took them some place to get cleaned. The decrease in the quality of my clothes for the cheap cleaning costs is not worth it at the end of the day. I am going to just spend more and get my clothes cleaned by places that care more about quality vs. quantity. It was my fault for forgetting that you get what you pay for.
