In addition to changing a toilet flapper, the technician looked at another toilet downstairs, assessed the supply valves as not working and needing repair at some point, and he also checked the water pressure and told me it was too high. An outdoor spigot broke off at the base, requiring the water to be shut off to my house. I called Zippy, and 90 minutes later, their plumber, friendly and polite, was assessing the situation. He told me it would cost $975 to replace the spigot and a few inches of copper pipe (according to the invoice, a new hose bib, piping leading to the hose bib, a new shut off to the hose bib, with pro press fittings and copper used). The price shocked me, but not willing to risk another day without water, I told him to go ahead. He completed the job in an hour, so problem solved within two and a half hours of the initial phone call. Five stars for quick service and what appears (it's only been a couple of days) to be quality work. However. The price looks to be at least double the norm. Angie's List suggests a range of $300-450 for such work, while a local plumber concurs with $250-450. Another local plumber said that I had "paid half the cost of what we charge to plumb a whole house," also adding, "sometimes you have to pay a little extra for convenience." After a mid-morning call to Matt, he had a service person, David, at my home within 90 minutes (who also called when he got delayed in traffic to let me know he would be a few minutes late.) We called Zippy Plumber when our garbage disposal stopped working. Matt was very professional on the phone, and even tried to help me with a simple, DIY repair. When we found out that my disposal was not compatible with this repair, he scheduled a time to come out the next day. At our scheduled appointment time, two technicians from Zippy arrived, and while they were respectful (took off their shoes before they entered, and were polite) their plumbing services left us scratching our heads. First, the lead tech (the other guy was a trainee) opened our cabinet and visually inspected the unit. He did not touch it, test it, or otherwise attempt to diagnose the problem. He simply looked at it, and then promptly informed us that we would need to replace it...for the bargain price of $765!! When I balked at the price, and then questioned why he did not even test the disposal, he tried again, this time asking me, "Is there a price you would be more comfortable with?" After declining his offer to haggle over the price of a new disposal and installation fee, he continued to press the issue, saying he could help with other things and he doesn't mind hanging around because he "gets paid by the hour". Absolutely NOT. We quickly escorted them to the door, and then took the next few days to research a better solution. Found a disposal online, ordered it, and had a different plumber install it for us for less than $200. Honestly, I'm disappointed. After the initial phone call with Matt, I really thought this would be a great plumber for us to rely on - we live in an old building and occasionally a project is just too large for us to tackle on our own, but I don't think I will be calling again. read more

What a joke!, called to ask for a price quote to have an ACCOR shut-off valve replaced, offered to send pictures. The guy I spoke to said it is $89 to send someone out and then they will be able to give a price quote. The usual scam, they'll charge you to look at it and then they will give you any price and if you don't like it, you lose the $89!. What I wanted is a straight forward task with a well known shut-off valve and I even offered to send pictures, but when I mentioned that to him, he hung up on me, I guess he realized I'll not play along with their scam!.
