This store is huge and had a lot of merchandise for different sports. There were 2 floors and we were assisted by a friendly associate who pulled our online order. After trying it on, my husband thought he'd need another size and another associate went to grab it for us. It was a better fit, so we went in line to make the even exchange. Lines moved quickly and associates were helpful.

We assumed the item might've sold out, no longer in stock, or just bad inventory all around. We decided to go in the store to get what we needed. We asked the cashier what happened with our order and he had no idea. We asked if they had it in stock or if another location had it. They went to check and luckily there was one Betts Jersey left in my size. We also signed up to get $20 off purchases of $100 or more. We did all that at the store and when it came to checking out, it turns out the coupon wasn't available until after a few days or something. We ended paying full price, no problem. The manager explained to us, if we wanted, we could bring the jersey back and repurchase after we got the coupon to get that $20 back. I didn't get the coupon until a week later which was to expire in 2 days. I went back to the store with the coupon forgetting that the $20 was actually NOT a free $20 off anything. It was $20 off ANOTHER purchase for $100+. So basically, a trick to get you to buy more, which I didn't end up using. The coupon wasn't quite clear and tricky to be honest. Beware of those marketing schemes and ads you see online or in store! The only upside was that the staff were very understanding and helpful. We went back looking for another shirt but they didn't have it in stock and they were nice enough to call the El Segundo location to hold the item for us. We went to that location, picked up the item easily, and there were no issues. Just keep an eye on the sales and ads -- and know what you're really getting. Another suggestion for this store is to keep better inventory. There had a ton of the same stuff but limited in other areas.

All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses.

My husband had a little sticker shock at the register for the 26 lb weight we were buying. He took a moment because he thought it was a little less online. When he asked "and that's the total with tax?". Normally you hear back a confirmation but instead she said no with tax it's $73.62. Mind you we were at the register to pay not for a price check. My husband was looking at his phone and she blurts out "you want it or not?". We told her yes but I had to explain to her he is just taking a moment to look up the price. Normally someone at the register gives the total price when purchasing not sub total. I walked away once my husband got the receipt and was already a good ways away from the register and she yells out "Good Bye!" In the most patronizing tone. It was the cherry on top for this review. We are all human and can do better but this right here is why online shopping and self check out is putting cashiers out of jobs. Maybe she should remember that the next time she wants to be unjustifiably rude and try to make people feel less than with "you want it or not?". So if you want your intentions to be buy something rudely questioned in front of other guests than this is the place and Jaslene is your go to.

I did, and I was later told that the Torrance manager and team had "touched base" with me, which is inaccurate. The only interaction I had with the store after my purchase was when I returned the same day to try to return the shoes. No one from the store ever contacted me afterward to follow up or try to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, no resolution was offered. Still the worse experience I've ever had. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. ---- Road Runner Sports started as a promising experience but turned into one of the most frustrating customer service situations I've had. I came in to buy running shoes, and the initial process seemed great. The associate scanned my feet (which was actually pretty cool), had me try insoles, and brought out three shoe options that fit my profile. However, communication was difficult, he was mostly mumbling, and I had to repeatedly ask him to clarify what he was saying. When I decided on a pair of ASICS, he immediately tried to upsell the insoles (around $120), even though I had only tried the shoes with those insoles, not with the original ones. That felt a bit misleading. At checkout, he also pushed the VIP membership, saying it would give me 90 days to try the shoes and return them if needed, making it sound like that flexibility depended on being a member. We declined. When I got home and tried to run in the shoes, I couldn't even last 90 seconds, they just didn't work for me. We called the store (using the number listed online) and were told that as long as the shoes looked brand new, we could return them. That gave us confidence to go back. Unfortunately, the in-store experience during the return was completely different. The associate told us: * The shoes did not qualify as "brand new" * We could not get a refund to the original payment method unless we were members * The only option was a gift card Then, again, we were offered the membership as a solution. The inconsistency between what we were told on the phone and what happened in-store, combined with the repeated upselling, made this a very frustrating experience. What started as a helpful, professional fitting ended with unclear policies and poor communication.
