Zig's is a restaurant affiliated with Ruttger's Lodge. The restaurant/bar is on the golf course at the resort. It is one of two restaurants that are part of the Ruttger's meal plan.
My wife and I recently spent a few days at Ruttger's to get away from the Twin Cities for a while. Everything at Ruttger's was terrific except our experience at Zig's. The restaurant itself is very nice, with modern decor, carpet, chairs, bar, etc. We had the Ruttger's meal plan and stopped by for dinner at about 6:30 on a Monday evening. There were three other tables with customers, so it was not busy at all.
We sat at a table in the bar area and waited at least 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. The server was chatting with the folks at the table next to us for several minutes (they arrived AFTER we did). Eventually the server took our drink order. The people next to us had their salads brought to them before we even received our drinks. We asked what the meal plan included, and the waitress had no clue. She went to the kitchen to ask (taking another 5 minutes) and eventually explained. I ordered the macaroni and cheese, my wife had the steak. She ordered it medium rare, it came out medium well. The mac and cheese was a soupy mess. We left Zig's very frustrated. We are not picky eaters or have unreasonable demands of wait staff. It's a nice place with friendly staff, it just seems that there are excellent training opportunities to improve the customer experience.
If I'd go back to Ruttger's, I'd eat all my dinners at the other restaurant - Ruby's. They have a great buffet and competent servers. read more
