Cheese pull shot!
Anna B.

Perfect little stop for a light Armenian lunch. Their signature Zhengyalov Hatz are light and satisfying, and we also got the dill yogurt drink, an apricot compote (pretty sweet but fine if you sip it slowly/balance with water), and one very hot, eggy and cheesy kachapuri. Perfect to share with friends and sit outside listening to upbeat Armenian music!

I liked this restaurant a lot. The food is amazing! The atmosphere is great too. Loved the old country feel. Will be back for more soon.

Tried this place earlier today and its pretty decent. Perfect for a simple lunch or grab & go meal. The menu is literally like 5-6 food items. We ordered the zhengyalov hatz~basically a flatbread with veggies/herbs. It was the best dish~I mean, its their namesake....came out super fast and I feel like everyone ordered this. Perfect for those non-meat eaters. We also ordered the lahmajoun, aka Armenian "pizza" that my friend whos half Armenian claims is the "best hes had". I can't tell the difference since I have nothing to compare to. But I do know the crust was super thin and crispy in the right places. Didn't pack a ton of flavor, but it was good. Price point was amazingly cheap...The pork shawarma I didn't care for. Took one bite only. It was a tad too sweet for my liking. I also ordered this cucumber & dill yogurt drink and its pretty legit. Not going to float everyone's boat but if you like odd drinks that are slightly savory....this is for you. Reminds me of the yogurt drinks I had in Croatia.

I've been searching for zhengyalov hatz ever since I tried them in Las Vegas. We finally were in the area and decided to drop by this spot in Glendale specializing in it. The spot is super cute and the service friendly. It's a fast casual where you order at the counter, and find a seat. We got the "veggie wraps" pretty quickly and enjoyed them thoroughly.

The menu is simple. Then name of the place is what you're here for. We ordered, we shared, we enjoyed our experience. Ordering takes place at the counter. They will yell your name and you pick up when it's ready. It's a small cozy spot. Off peak times are best to really enjoy the atmosphere.

I finally made it to this spot and was not left disappointed. We went in at 7:00pm on a Friday night and ordered one Zhengyqlov hats to share as a light snack before dinner plans later that evening, and boy was it filling. The dish is not like anything I can compare to, it's a very unique dish as it uses 12 different types of greens, but if you like healthy, earthy green dishes, you have to try this spot. When we got there they had about 8 of the dishes made but they warm it to order and its just such a comforting snack, though it can definitely be it's own meal if you eat the whole thing. Service was quick, efficient and courteous, they were kind enough to split the portion for us which we appreciated. Parking can be a little tough but the inner street around the corner had a few spots. Definitely give this place a visit and enjoy this delicious, unique dish. Also want to note eating here made me feel like I was transported to Armenia as the decor and the decor and theming was very on point.

So good! Read about the zhengyalov hatz in The LA Times and had to try it. Delicious fresh ingredients and soft tasty bread. Will definitely be back.

Zhengyalov Hatz is a charming little Armenian bakery tucked away in Glendale that's all about one specialty--and they do it so well. The menu is small and focused, with their star item being (you guessed it) the zhengyalov hatz--a traditional flatbread stuffed with a mix of finely chopped greens, herbs, and veggies. I'll admit, I was a little hesitant at first since I wasn't sure I'd like all the greens inside, but it completely exceeded my expectations. The flavors were balanced, fresh, and super satisfying. I could've easily eaten another one! It's the kind of simple, comforting food that hits just right. The bakery itself is cute and cozy, with subtle Armenian touches that make the space feel warm and authentic. I found street parking pretty easily on the weekend, though it might be trickier during the week. Service was fast and friendly, and while the prices are about what you'd expect for a quality bite in the LA area, the experience and taste make it worth it. If you're curious to try something new--or already love Armenian food--this little spot is definitely worth a visit!

You would think that a wrap filled solely with green and bitter herbs won't be appetizing, but then, you would be mistaken. If you're in Glendale, stop in and make sure you order the namesake dish. It's a traditional Armenian dish that is a staple during times of scarcity. It is very unique and I haven't had anything like it. It's also really delicious! And cheap! We also ordered a shawarma and a lahmaçun and this lahmaçun was the best one I've had outside of Turkey! Seriously, don't sleep on this place.

Zhengyalov hatz and lahmajun

My friend really likes their zhengyalov hatz and I really liked the lahmajun (the flatbread). I personally love a small menu of things a restaurant specializes in. It's a cute cozy place for a quick meal. I can't say I've ever had zhengyalov hatz before and I've only had a few variations of the flatbread/lahmajun/lahmacun across cuisines, but a solid place. Especially for the lahmajun hehe.

I came to try their famous zhengyalov hatz. It's all made fresh when you order. The flat bread was buttery and soft. The herbs inside all complimented each other and were so fresh. I felt so healthy eating this. The place is so cute and clean. Workers were friendly. I would come back again.

Came here on a Saturday around 1 pm. There is metered street parking around the restaurant and we luckily got a spot right in front. Most of the tables were taken inside and out of this small establishment. The atmosphere is warm and lively, with groups chatting. My boyfriend and I got 2 zhengtalov hatz and one lahmajune to share. He also ordered an Armenian coffee. The prices have gone up from what I can tell but they're still pretty reasonable. The food was ready around 5-10 minutes later. The woman who took our order gave us the hatz and coffee while the other side of the restaurant provided us the lahmajune. We sat outside at one of the 3 tables and went to town. The zhengyalov hatz was delicious and refreshing! It was full of well seasoned miscellaneous veggies and I was surprised by how thin the bread was. The lahmajune was also so yummy and pretty big! It was super flavorful and had a thin layer of meat topping. Adding the lemon juice from the fresh lemon wedge provided the perfect tang. I can see why this restaurant is on the Michelin guide. It was my first time trying an Armenian bread and I was blown away, it was so unique and delicious. Would be happy to bring my family here to try for themselves.

Warm and savory Armenian establishment perfect for fresh and hearty choices for breakfast and lunch! My girlfriend and I stopped in for a morning fill up with an order to go for an Armenian coffee, a couple of their Hatz and what to me could be coined as an Armenian Pizza. Both were prepared in front of us in their open style kitchen areas. We waited only a few minutes and sat out front at their table area. All their decor was rich in character and certainly had a charm. eating outside or inside it certainly felt like a perfect cafe for a comfortable brunch. My coffee was served black but was still rich in flavor as is, I'd recommend stirring it a bit because there's a lot more to be had if the brew doesn't collect all at the bottom. Their hatz had lovely greens that were both slightly crunchy, very refreshing and tiny hints of acidic pleasure. Their wrapped grain was thinner than expected and served hot! It was amazing. The pizza looking item was also a masterpiece. The thin crunchy bites were a rich complement to the savory, citrusy lemon juice bites of the cheesy and meaty topping. There were small hints of tomato and the way it all came together was balancing. Delicious breakfast fix. It was among my earliest exposures to Armenian cuisine and this restaurant served amazing food with character and detail to flavor. I'd easily return if ever in the area again.

Is it good to go or must eat it fresh right there?

Eating it fresh right there would be ideal. It will be totally a different experience eating it on the go.

Does this contain cilantro?

Do you have a gluten-free version? I'd love to try this but need a GF option.

No, they specialize in one to two items and do things the traditional way.

Can someone describe the taste? I feel I'd like it but was hoping to hear from you guys.

Herby, zesty, tangy. It's like delicious herbs on warm bread. Same satisfaction as eating a pizza (nothing like a pizza but I get that same kind of happiness). Honestly, I've never met anyone who doesn't like this–it's healthy, fresh-baked, and SO… Read more

The eggplant caviar was solid and a generous portion, but the real standout? The Caesar wrap. It completely lived up to the hype -- bold, flavorful, and honestly addictive. I almost ordered a second one to take home. Also worth mentioning: the son of the owner who took my order was super friendly and had great customer service, even with a long line. The OG Soup Dumpling: Why Khinkali House is Glendale's Best Kept Secret…read more Let's get one thing straight: if you think the "soup dumpling" started with a two-hour wait outside a Din Tai Fung, you're about 600 years late to the party. While the culinary world is currently obsessed with the delicate, bite-sized Xiao Long Bao--which didn't even show up until the 1870s in Shanghai--the Georgians have been perfecting this craft since the 13th-century Mongol invasions. Khinkali is the OG. It's the rugged, fist-sized ancestor that doesn't need a bamboo steamer basket or a delicate, nervous touch. It's a meal that requires soul, a bit of primitive technique, and a complete disregard for your clean shirt. Tucked away on Artsakh Avenue, Khinkali House is where you go to pay your respects to this ancient culinary titan. Atmosphere and the Art of the Rainy Day I happened to drop in on a rare, miserable rainy day in Glendale, and let me tell you, sitting out in their roomy, covered patio area while the water drummed against the roof was pure atmospheric gold. It's the kind of setting that demands heavy, unapologetic comfort food. The service here is sharp, warm, and attentive--the kind of old-school hospitality that makes you feel like a regular before you've even opened the menu. The Opening Act: Borscht with Soul You don't just jump into a pile of massive dumplings. You have to prepare the palate. I started with a bowl of their Borscht, and it was exquisite. It arrived as a deep, vibrant crimson pool of beet-infused soul, swimming with tender beef, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. It was earthy, slightly sweet, and served at a temperature that could ward off any chill in your bones. It's the kind of bowl that tells you immediately that this kitchen isn't just following a recipe; they're honoring a bloodline. The Main Event: The Four Pillars of Khinkali Then came the heavy hitters. Unlike the thin-skinned, elegant Xiao Long Bao, Khinkali is built for battle. It's a massive, boiled parcel with a thick, satisfyingly chewy dough gathered at the top into a sturdy little knot or "handle" (the kudi). You don't eat the handle--you use it to hoist the beast, bite a small hole in the side, aggressively slurp out the liquid gold trapped inside, and then devour the rest. I worked my way through all four flavors, and each was a masterclass in balance: Ground Beef & Pork: The classic heavyweight. The moment you pierce the dough, a rich, heavily spiced, aggressively savory broth floods your spoon. The meat is fatty in all the right ways, laced with herbs that cut through the richness. It is purely addictive. Lamb: A masterclass in bold, unapologetic flavor. The lamb adds a deeply gamey, sophisticated depth that grounds the entire dish. As it boils, the rendered fat mixes with the internal cooking liquids inside that thick doughy cavern to create a broth that is darker, earthier, and aggressively flavorful. It's a heavy, soulful revelation that hits you right in the chest. Mushroom: Often treated as a vegetarian afterthought in other places, here it's a star. It hits you with a massive wave of umami. The mushrooms are tender and earthy, producing a fragrant, woodsy liqueur inside the dumpling that makes you realize you don't need meat to create a complex masterpiece. Georgian Cheese (The Undisputed Champion): I'm just going to say it--this was my absolute favorite. It is an exercise in pure, primal decadence. Instead of a meat broth, biting into this unleashes a molten, gooey river of tangy, salty Georgian cheese. It pulls, it stretches, and the sharp, slightly funky bite of the cheese against the warm, thick dough is a spiritual experience. I could eat ten of these and die happy. The Return Trip The tragedy of Khinkali House is that the dumplings are so filling, you have to leave the rest of the menu unexplored. But I am already plotting my return. Next time, I'm coming back for the Adjarskiy Khachapuri--that famous Georgian boat-shaped bread loaded with melted cheese and crowned with a fresh egg yolk and a pat of butter. I also have my eye on the Zhengyalov Hatz (a traditional Armenian herb-filled flatbread), and the wildly intriguing Osetrina (Sturgeon) Skewer, which you just don't see every day. The Verdict: Respect the Elders Let's cut the noise. Xiao Long Bao is great for a polite, light lunch, but Khinkali is for when you want to feel something real. Khinkali House has managed to bring a 13th-century mountain staple to a Glendale patio and make it feel like the most relevant thing on the street. It's bold, it's historical, and it's flat-out delicious. If you want to experience the true evolution of the dumpling, get yourself to Khinkali House. Grab a handle, watch the rain, and eat like a Georgian highlander. You can thank me later.

We were 4 adults and 1 child, and an automatic 18% gratuity was already included in the bill. However, on the receipt the section saying "tips not included" was circled, which made it seem like gratuity had NOT been added yet. Because of that confusion, I ended up leaving an additional cash tip. I understand restaurants may add gratuity automatically for larger groups, but if gratuity is already included, the receipt and staff should make that clear instead of circling "tips not included." It creates unnecessary confusion for customers. Also, automatically adding gratuity regardless of service feels questionable. Thankfully our server was kind, but if service had been poor, customers should still feel they have a choice regarding tipping.
