Piti soup - beef with chickpeas.
Agnius G.

First time here. Old Gyumri name was nowhere to be found - it is Elysee House now. Food was OK - soup (piti) ($17.99) was good but it had that reheated vibe (there was a piece of meat in there that was not heated all the way) and same with the main dish of meat stew (beef khashlama)($34.99). It was tasty but I just didn't feel "just made" there either. The Armenian salad was fresh - cucumbers and tomatoes were just chopped. No table water - only in bottles ($3.99). We did get seated in a private room that could handle a major business deal but decor was little over the top for me. In the end this is not the place I would like to come back.

Came here with my family on 4th of July. We drove in from Vegas and we were recommended by a friend. Let me just say that this was one of the best Armenian places we tried! Armine was amazing. She made sure to constantly check on us and I loved that she made us feel welcomed and like we were family. The inside is super sheik. She told us about their outdoor seating. When we come into town next time we will for sure check out the outdoor seating as well. Can't wait to come back! *not the prettiest picture attached but we were almost done with our food.*

To say that coming here was a unique experience is an understatement. My family and I walked in around 6pm with a reservation. We walked into the establishment and we were greeted by a server (quite handsome man but clearly some cultural differences) who not only seemed like a deer in headlights but also seemed surprised that we were there and surprised that we had just walked into the restaurant. We felt like we weren't allowed to be inside. There was a slight odor of cigars and everything was screened off as if to indicate that we had walked into a very private, high rollers-only casino. We were quickly asked to turn around back outside and ushered to the outdoor area (that was only accessible through the parking lot) where there are 6-person tables each with its own outdoor heater and fully enclose-able cabana. He pointed to a table that wasn't set yet (all the others were set already) which indicated some more that they weren't expecting us. It felt a little strange because we just really didn't feel like we belonged. However, once the table was set, we were seated at the table, the cabana curtains were closed and the outdoor heater was lit, it felt good. We figured this was just the way this restaurant operated. We ordered something they called a Dragon (?) Salad - it was basically a "salad" that consisted mostly of meat, some meat stew in a bread bowl, a few soups, rice, and what I'd call an Armenian charcuterie. All said and done, the food was all good! All of our favorites were that meat salad and then next was the meat stew in the bread bowl. All the food is pretty much family style with the exception of the soups. Those are served in individual bowls. I'd come back because there were a ton of dishes I still wanted to try. Just letting you know that the vibe is....well, unique., It definitely felt like most of the patrons were men and were there mostly to smoke cigars and drink vodka. We still have yet to know what exactly was inside of the actual indoor restaurant. We believe they probably had a private event.

Such delicious food! This restaurant has a huge back space that is beautiful and special. Cucumber & yogurt and eggplant dish is amazing. The wine is delicious too. Such a HIDDEN GEM! highly recommend. Our server Luiza is so helpful and kind too. loved it, we will be back. Also p.s. They make everything in house. Even the cheese.

They recently changed their name to Elysée House. The whole restaurant was beautifully remodeled. The Greek Salad was fresh and delicious. I loved the lamb chops. They were very tender and flavorful. I had the Armenian Beer Gyumri and it was so refreshing. What a beautiful and delicious fruit plate they have for dessert. The booths are private. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.

They gave us free rose for valentines :) sooo sweet

Including tax and tip, an appetizer and 2 entrees racked up about $90 and I felt the experience could have been better for that price... There's 2 hour street parking and $13 valet parking in the small lot in front. We were able to get street parking on a Monday afternoon when they just opened for lunch, but I can imagine this place being tough get a spot at. The aesthetics and vibe of the restaurant are top notch! Very old school and traditional and our seating area had a tall spiked wooden fence that closed and some traditional artwork and pottery all around. It would have been pretty cool to explore around if we had the time. There's a call button at each table and the service was alright. Iced water was served with bottled water and ice separately, nice. We got the: 1) Stolichni salad: -it's a Russian cold salad dish with a veggie blend (I remember mostly peas and some carrots), minced meat (beef from what I remember) and sour cream and mayo dressing. -Honestly was pretty bland in my opinion, didn't have the distinct creamy sour taste that I associate with other cold salads like this -It went alright with the breads that were given to us. 2) Ker U Sus: -HUGE amount of freshly fried French fries on top of a decent amount of pork meat with sauce and green peppers. -The meat was a bit dry, even after being drenched in all that sauce. -Fries were good but you can never go wrong with that. -Not worth it for $25 in my honest opinion though, if I had to go back, I'd make a different choice for sure. 3) Khash: -Cow foot soup with garlic, lavash bread, and daikon. - I did not get a bit of the daikon in the soup, unless the flavor was just boiled in and the actual pieces were not in there. -Lavash bread was alright, didn't add much to the soup. -Meat was very chewy and gelatinous, something my partner liked but me not so much. -The garlic meaty soup reminded me of ramen broth, a bit rich, garlicy and meaty. But it wasn't as thick as say a tonkotsu or miso broth. We had to add a bit of salt and pepper to make it less bland as well. It's a huge portion of food we ended up taking to go, but I would rethink going back here again.

Food was amazing and so was our server Luisa. Meat was tender and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the dumplings.

But it is without question the most important Armenian restaurant in the world. Armenians are simultaneously a diaspora people, a people of the book, and an old country people. Therefore, odd as it may seem, it is entirely appropriate that the most important Armenian restaurant in the world should not be located in Armenia at all, but should serve a diaspora community in a way that makes them feel connected to home, both interns of cuisine and in terms of communal warmth. Technically, this is more of a Lebanese restaurant than an Armenian restaurant, but that hardly matters. It's a place of celebration, merriment, laughter, and tears. In short, it is THE gathering place for Armenians in Southern California. Because of its fame and importance, the thing that is consistently overlooked about this restaurant is just how excellent the food is. Bring a Lebanese expat here and you will invariably hear them say after the first bite of hummus that it doesn't compare to the hummus they used to enjoy in Beirut. By the middle of the bowl, they will say that it actually is not as bad as they first thought. By the end of the bowl they will declare that this hummus ranks among the greatest they have ever tasted. Carousel does not overwhelm you. It seduces you. And you'll be back.

Here's how I think the ones I've had stack up.... 1. Mini Kabob. Non traditional dressing but the flavor is well balanced with fresh ingredients and tender chicken thigh meat on a very good tortilla. Slightly pricier than the others but worth it. 2. Ggiata. The best of the more traditional grilled chicken wraps with crunchy croutons inside and an outstanding tortilla. Their traditional Caesar dressing on the side is very good. The Venice location tastes better than the one in Highland Park. 3. Highly Likely (Highland Park). Very good wrap but without any croutons or crunchy elements. Solid tortilla but the dressing on the side isn't as flavorful as the top two. 4. Sweetgreen (Pasadena). Best of the chain restaurants. Good but can be a bit too salty. Their Chicken Cali Club wrap is actually better balanced flavor-wise. The wrap here is smaller but still good. All the above wraps were satisfying and filling with the one from Sweetgreen being the smallest.

The flavors hit the spot, and the extra dressing on the side took it to another level. The lule was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the rice was on point--fluffy and moist. I was initially going to complain about the price, but after tasting the flavor and quality, I'd say it was worth every penny. Also, shout-out to Armen--very nice guy who brings some seriously positive energy. I'll definitely be back!

On to the food - we ordered the eggplant appetizer, it's similar to baba ghanouj but this one is a bit spicier and so yummy with the bread that came with it. We also ordered khinkali which is Georgian's version dumplings (we ordered the boiled version but there's also fried ones available).
