I had them replace an older Aiphone intercom with Unifi access and they came and installed a Unifi door reader, cleaned up my door strikes, installed a unifi in wall in a rental unit so we could pass through an additional POE port to a Unifi intercom and then came up with an idea to consolidate my networking gear in my garage so I changed scope after day 1 to include that and also setup a gate hub automation. I also had them do a new cat6 run and they did a great job with that as well as patching up the holes from older cables. Great communication - they know their networking and Unifi gear and I would recommend to others looking for ethernet/wireless/security cameras and expertise with Unifi gear.

I had an incredibly weird issue where some of my home outlets work and some do not and some were…read moreflickering in and out. The breaking point was when the internet became unreliable because the power was unreliable and the stove stopped working. I contacted Alex and he said he could send someone over that same day. He was transparent about the pricing before the job began. When his team member (Ming) came over he was thorough and transparent about what he found and Alex came over to assess himself. Turns out one of the main line coming into the house on the verge of burning out and thus the other 110v line was trying to compensate which caused it to also overload. This explained why the 240 outlets were not functioning. Our electrical was just old and the age caught up. He gave a reasonable estimate and fixed it by the end of the day. In passing, I also mentioned that although our stove worked, it seemed that it's power fades as I use it more and he was able to determine that line was under gauged for the load and was a fire hazard. Looking up the prior setup before my recent renovation, I see that they had incorrectly reduced the stove line from 40amps to 30amps. Alex and team was able to solved that problem as well, giving me updates along the way and providing very easy to understand explanations. This was an annoying problem plaguing us for years! Again, the pricing is very reasonable and the quality of work is exceptional. I highly recommend Alex Tong and his team.

There was no phone call and no additional scope discussed beyond what was explicitly outlined. The scope also specified the exact equipment to be used: two manufacturer-included mounts and one standard off-the-shelf mount already owned and being used in another room. No custom mounting or fabrication was requested. To be clear, all major electrical work had already been completed by a licensed electrician prior to this visit, including an in-wall media box and power where applicable. The written scope did not include infrastructure planning, signal design, or custom fabrication. The work requested was limited to: Mounting three TVs In-wall cable concealment on two TVs using existing wall paths/media boxes One new in-wall outlet (clearly called out and requested to be included in the quote) No drywall repair, no structural work, no permitting Despite this clearly defined written scope, the estimate was later characterized as covering "custom mounting," "infrastructure planning," and other items that were not part of the work requested and were never discussed. The quote came in at roughly 10× higher than multiple other licensed and insured installers for the same scope. The public response provided appeared to be boilerplate and did not address the specific written scope. It even referenced "[X] years of experience" without a number filled in, which suggested the response was copied without reviewing the details of this project. Before deciding, I verified licensing through the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) using the business name listed on their website. The CSLB records show the associated contractor licenses as expired, with a status stating the license is "expired and not able to contract at this time." Screenshots are included. For additional context, California limits unlicensed or handyman work to projects of $1,000 or less. Being quoted $5,000 for this scope made the pricing and justification even more difficult to reconcile. Experience and tools matter, but pricing and representations should align with the actual written scope of work and current licensing status. Attention to details matter as well, not clearly understanding the SOW, rushing quotes, and replies. Replying without understanding the issues. I will not being doing business with Basil as trust is important. I recommend getting multiple quotes, keeping scope in writing, and independently verifying license status before proceeding.
