Marcello Pizza Napoli - Pizza with potatoes, carrots and onions

I love trying new local spots! So when I heard about this absolute hidden gem of a restaurant just…read morea few minutes away from my house, I had to try it. Marcello Pizza Napoli is a cozy pizzeria nestled in La Mesa, known for its authentic Italian flavors and traditional wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas. The vibe is definitely reminiscent to the Italian countryside- a private yet charming outdoor setting surrounded by potted herbs, string lights, and closely spaced tables that evoke a warm, intimate, and romantic setting (perfect for date nights or quiet dinners with friends). The Vespas were also a nice touch- created an authentic, nostalgic atmosphere that transports diners straight to the streets of Rome. The real highlight of our dining experience was the food. We started the evening with an order of polpette- homemade meatballs in rich tomato sauce, shaved parmesan, and served with fresh focaccia bread 8/10! I ordered the lasagna bolognese- it was rich and well balanced in flavor with a lightly crisped, toasted cheese crust on the upper layer 9/10! My wife ordered the ravioli with pesto- rich and creamy with a herbaceous punch of basil 9/10! (2) standouts were the gnocchi alla sorrentina and the pepperoni pizza. The gnocchi were stuffed with cheese (absolute game changer). The potato gnocchi was soft, tender, and pillowy. Hands down one of the best gnocchi I've ever had in my life 11/10! The pizza is what they're known for- it had a nice puffy crust with charred edges. Fresh ingredients highlight the pure taste of fermented wheat, sea salt, and extra virgin olive oil 10/10! Overall, service was great! And the quality of food was excellent. At times, they did run out of beverages (coke, blood orange, and modelo beer). However, our server did encourage us to bring our own bottle of wine for next time! Cheers ya'll!

This place was so good and who would've guessed its located in the backyard of a house!…read more We made reservations in advance for a Saturday night. We ordered the Margherita pizza and a tiramisu for dessert. So yum, so authentic, so fresh. Give me MORE! They have the pizza oven located right by the seating area, so you can watch the pizzas being made right in front of you!! The backyard is so cute and homey. You feel like a family guest in there. As much as I want to give it a 5/5, I do want to knock down one star just for the service speed. Everyone is SO NICE and SO SWEET. But eating there took a bit longer than I anticipated. When we made our reservation, there was an option to pre-order. When we sat down, we were told that the pre order didn't go through and they didn't receive anything. It took about 30 minutes to get our orders in after we had sat down. And then about another 25 minutes for our pizza. Then another 25 for our tiramisu and then another wait to get the bill. HOWEVER!!! They did tell us Saturday turned out busier than expected. MARCELLO, the owner, is also the chef and from what I could see, he was making all the orders!! Staff were so sweet and it's a backyard restaurant, so I totally understand (especially for a weekend)! They told us to try and come back when it's not so busy. I love supporting local businesses like this. The food is 5/5 , and I want to come back and give it another try when it's not so busy!

Most recently, they came out last Saturday and served our 50 guests with ease. Everything from communication to set up and clean up is easy and smooth. Their email response time is always incredibly fast and they make booking so efficient and quick. They are also very transparent about pricing and very reasonable in their pricing. They also offer discounts and sales often and often give a cash discount when paying too. Our guests always rave about the food and they are the only taco company we know of that offers fish tacos as an option. We also love that they offer more unusual items such as grilled veggies and churros. We highly recommend Taquizas José for your next event.

From the moment we inquired to the day of the party, we received several emails confirming the location, setup area, menu, and guest count. I had zero concerns about their ability to execute the plan, and I especially appreciated their 48-hour final confirmation. Our guests (95 total) raved about the food. We ran out of beef a little earlier than expected, but our people do love to eat and appreciated that the staff didn't skimp on portion sizes. I think my guests took "all you can eat" seriously--LOL. My only suggestion would be to let Taquizas Jose know if your group loves to eat, as you may want to factor that into the amount of meat they bring. We've been feasting on leftover beans, rice, and tortillas this week--thoroughly enjoying it. Safe to say no one left hungry, and we're still enjoying it days later. 10/10 would (and hope to) book again for any event!

I ordered that with a side of mac and cheese. $20 later I was given a plate with what looked like a delicious sandwich and Mac and cheese. I went to pick up the sandwich and the bottom bun must have had that meat sitting on it for 10 min.. It was completely soggy and had to use a fork to try and eat the meat which had a substantial amount of fat I should have taken it back. The Mac and cheese my kid lives.. He took one bite and didn't eat any of the rest.. I didnt either. . It was Luke warm.. And very little of any flavor. Comon guys.. If you're gonna have $20 sandwich out there.. Make it memorable. Switch out the bun.. For goodness sakes.. It would have made a big difference. You were not busy.. And even if you were.. Do the right thing.

Please don't let my terrible photos stop you from eating this delicious BBQ…read more Yes, the prices are a little steep (similar to the prices charged by ALL food trucks) but you get a TON of absolutely delicious BBQ. We tried the pulled pork sandwich and the smoked beef sandwich. They were both terrific and you get an absolutely MOUND of meat with both dishes. The BBQ sauce used was a tad sweet but not too sweet. Both proteins were incredibly tender and juicy. We also tried the mac and cheese and beans and, as with the meats, you get a ton of whatever side you order (you get one side per plate). The mac was a little dry but still delicious. The beans were smoky and OUT OF THIS WORLD TERRIFIC. I'm not kidding. These are life-changing beans, if there can be such a thing. Frequently parked outside the Lost Abbey in San Elijo, this is a truck you want to check out. The food was served very quickly after ordering so no long wait like with most food trucks.
