WOW!!!! Continental catering was so amazing. We used Continental Catering for the welcome dinner for our wedding weekend, and asked them for an Indian "street food". They were SO kind and accommodating, and brought us in for TWO full tastings (with guests!) to perfect the menu. The chefs were so sweet, and also really humble with the less familiar cuisine, actually asking my grandma for her thoughts and taking such detailed notes on what we wanted. Also, we got the most amazing s'mores dessert, which was a huge hit with our guests. We also subcontracted several other things through Continental, like tables, chairs, lighting, and AV. This was honestly extremely convenient, and was so nice to not have to juggle so many vendors. Their communication was incredible, the food was great, and just an 11/10 team. My company used continental catering again. Do they appreciate us or hate us? This meal gets 2 stars cuz I could actually eat it. However it's very dry and very salty. I added sour cream and cheese the the Baja chicken bowl to make it palatable and it's actually ok. I'd give it a meh instead of gross. The rice is for sure undercooked. The "taco sauce" however is pretty disturbing as it looks, tastes and smells like marinara. My review comes almost exactly a year after our wedding, having gotten married at The Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, CA on April 22, 2022. I want to start with the fact that wedding planning is no easy feat, but once deciding on The Continental to cater our wedding, Melissa V., our point of contact, made the process just that percentage easier as she ultimately aided my husband and I in our wedding menu and table/ linen rentals with both of us on opposite sides of the country; he in Hawaii/ Washington and me in D.C. while planning our wedding. I also want to ensure I note that due to not being in town for any portion of our wedding planning until two days prior to our wedding date, we did not do tastings with The Continental at all during the process of choosing our caterer, we chose blindly based on reviews and ultimately a portion based on price comparison, but ultimately flexibility in the menu and the professionalism of the business. My review is 3/5 because at the end of the day I remember four things from my experience with The Continental: 1. Melissa V. was phenomenal at ensuring we had all things configured and set - truly, she helped make a huge portion of our wedding a success as the one thing I was concerned with, was our food as we put a big portion of our funds toward food as that is one of our love languages. Who needs floral arrangements at a wedding if you have phenomenal food to share with your loved ones and to keep the hangry bride at bay?! 2. The desserts were a WIN. 5/5! I am a HUGE sweets person and what's better, we were able to pick and choose preset menu choices and add other desires on top of that; I naturally needed the key lime pie option and it did not disappoint. Literally, every dessert item on our menu made me grab a second and even a third from what I remember - I put energy into ensuring I had multiples and any bride knows, "eating" at your own wedding is not a thing, lol. I made those desserts my mission. 3. Our cooked vegetables were hard and Luke warm at best; 1/5! I had a variety of items from our choices, I will admit, we did have a lot of options to ensure our total guest count, which ended up being 64 in our intimate venue were satisfied, and one glaring thing I remember are these darn vegetables - I was a bit embarrassed to have had them served to our guests because they were quite crunchy. Brussel sprouts can already be questionable but, I imagine the ones served that night pushed some over their tolerance. 4. The price point was quite elevated for the ultimate outcome of our menu. I want to note that I understand catering is a business and requires ALOT, which is why I am not a caterer and hired one for our wedding; noted. But the outcome to our bill was close to $14k for 64 people for a less than memorable entree outcome - again, the food was such a big deal for my husband and I and if a glaring thing I remember are those damn vegetables and Nothing else from our main course options, it makes my ultimate review what it is. Yes, realistically $5.5k for the food, $2.5k for service, $800 in rentals, $1200 for an admin fee, 15% venue cost... yes, I know there are fees associated in addition to the bottom line food cost BUT I'm disappointed that even the $5.5k spent on food, didn't result in knocking my teal heals off during my wedding. I believe if your business is FOOD then that FOOD should show up on every level from Pupus to desserts and outside of the dessert, the food did not show up for the price tag, for me. This does not negate the wonderful collaboration between us and Melissa and ultimately the staff the night of! 5/5! Overall, this brings my review to a 3/5. I'd not hesitate to work with this team in the future but I would make it a point to ensure I do a tasting to protect what I am investing in especially because food is such a big comfort for me and $14k is a lot of money. read more

Highly recommend! I truly have a greater appreciation of event planning after our recent experience hosting the after-talk reception for Midwifery Week this year at UCSD. We worked with Kristin and throughout the process, she was prompt, organized, and presented us with options that were exactly right. The contract with clear, easy to understand, well organized and their prices were competitive. She suggested a menu that turned out to be perfectly balanced and visually stunning, which included cheeses, charcuterie, deviled eggs, and mezze. Everything looked beautiful and was delicious. I also liked that they offer their own china and cutlery so that we didn't have to throw away plastic or other disposables. Their food is delicious, and they were able to incorporate Chinese, Australian, and Californian dishes into the menu in a way that was both authentic and had a bit of a twist. For the one item they didn't quite nail the first time, they went out of their way to find a baker in San Diego who could make Australian desserts. Continental Catering has my highest recommendation. Yolanda went absolutely above and beyond for us at our wedding in Oct 2019 in La Jolla at the beautiful Martin Johnson House. Yolanda made me feel so special and attended to my needs. She is very organized, detailed and highly experienced. During my entire wedding planning process, she was the only vendor who made me feel extra confident I was making the right choices by her guidance even though I did not have a wedding planner! She gave great recommendations and was also very patient with us when we chose our wedding menu even though we swapped out so many options. On the day of the wedding, the food we ended up serving to our guests was their delicious buffet menu. Our main buffet entrees were the thyme butter grilled salmon (cooked to perfection) and the braised beef short rib (super juicy and tender). Their cauliflower mashed potatoes and roasted broccolini were to die for. All their food was cooked on-site and HOT. Yolanda even went above and beyond to decorate the buffet/serving area by matching my wedding theme. Her team was very respectful of our guests and everyone was very polite and professional. I was doing research on catering companies and this one was recommended to me because apparently the food was decent and competitively priced. It would've been nice to get a quote, but I never got one. I called one day and the lady (don't remember her name, but I don't think it was Yolanda because that name is distinctive to me as I only know one Yolanda IRL) told me she would make a quote for me based on the budget I asked and would call if she had any questions. Never got a call back or voicemail. Gave her my full name and email, too. Nothing. I do want to add that the person on the other end made me feel kinda dumb because I wasn't sure what I could order; this was my first time even looking for a caterer since I'm not married and event planning isn't my specialty. It's kinda hard to know what they actually serve because there isn't a formal menu on their website (just a few seasonal dishes). Also, while other yelpers and my venue say that this place has reasonable prices, that's hard to gauge considering they don't have prices listed--which I know is at the company's discretion--and they don't even have a full menu up. Unless the actual "full menu" is what is on the website. I probably should've tried harder and followed up the next day, but I was working on a tight schedule and another catering company already caught my eye. One that actually gave me a bunch of food options, including dishes that fit my budget. And I didn't have to badger them since this catering company called me--a lot. So I gave my money to them instead; they got more money out of me since my boss OK'ed going over the budget. Oh, well. The Pacific Palate menu was perfect for us because it fit our pescatarian diet, fed our vegan friends, and still had a land meat option for all the other guests. Your caterer will be the most important vendor at your wedding. I chose Continental Catering for three reasons. 1) They were very responsive 2) Their pricing was very competitive 3) Yolanda is an absolute professional. I got married at Scripps Seaside Forum Feb 2017. There is a designated list of caterers from which you can choose. A friend of mine got married at Scripps last summer and recommended Yolanda with Continental Catering. I decided to compare a few caterers before committing to them and let me save you lots of time and tell you to just choose Continental. Other caterers were not as responsive and made it difficult to schedule tastings. Many of the caterers asked if I had a wedding planner like that should matter. I was doing it all myself and was going to hire a day of coordinator. For one, Yolanda responds to emails, texts and calls within a day or so and made it extremely easy to schedule a tasting. Second, I tried to get a tasting scheduled with UCSD (they charge for tastings) and they gave me only 2 options in an entire month of December and when I agreed to one of them, 4 days before they canceled on me and wanted to reschedule in the new year. That would be too close to my wedding day so I passed. I called Coast catering and the price per person was 30% more than Continental. They stressed that their food is of a different caliber. I never even got around to a tasting because they were way too expensive and were going to charge me $180/pp for the tasting because I was having a plated meal service. I called Piattis because I love their restaurant. The menu they sent me was so limited that I had a hard time getting a good picture of what my catering menu would look like. Third, Yolanda has done SO MANY weddings at Scripps that when we did the walk through she gave so many good suggestions and recommendations that I gave her a huge hug afterwards. Fourth, Guisseppe bar service is VERY expensive but you have no choice. By the advice of my Coordinator (Amy with First Comes Love) I asked Yolanda to do the bar set up. She charged me a reasonable fee for the bar set up and saved me a ton of $$$. Lastly, I got so many compliments about the food from my guests. They loved the cheese board and mahi mahi skewers and the plated dinner and the tea/coffee service apparently had an awesome selection of teas. This review is long overdue, but I'd like to express my gratitude to Christie Radican and her wonderful team for helping to plan and execute the perfect appetizers and meal for our July 4th wedding. When my husband and I started our search, we were at a loss trying to find a caterer who was a) willing to work on a holiday and b) experienced with crafting vegan food. Upon our first consultation with Christie, we were delighted that we received no pushback at our suggestion of an all-vegan meal. The few other catering companies we met with were hesitant and not very responsive. Prior to us, the closest Christie and her team had ever been to creating an all-vegan menu, was a vegetarian spread. With that in mind, Christie embraced all of our menu ideas and even helped come up with of few of her own. She helped us stick to our budget for a 75 person wedding and we decided on stations; ranging from a salad and pasta bar, to a taco station, and finally a "Southwest" station complete with fried artichoke drumsticks and creamed corn. For appetizers we came up with sun dried tomato and basil arancini, curried black bean sliders, and spring rolls. We loved all of their creations, as did our guests. The artichoke drumsticks were a hit, and we even had a number of guests compliment the creativity of the food, and tell us that they had no idea how good and filling vegan food could be and that would be trying to incorporate more vegan meals into their day to day lives. read more

When my husband and I were looking for a wedding caterer we knew one thing above all else, it HAD to be delicious and it had to be filling. We had been to too many weddings were the food was forgettable, bland and we were always seeking a California burrito afterwards. We were also on a budget (who isn't) and we could only use a set of pre-approved caterers for our venue. I'm so happy that Continental Catering was available for our wedding. The minute I met with Christie R. I knew we didn't have to look any further. We chose to use food stations for our wedding. We brought my parents and sister to the tasting, and let's just say my Filipino dad wasn't all boned up for an all food station wedding since he had only done buffets or sit down (he's old school). By our second food item, my dad was stuffed and he said if we didn't choose continental, we'd make a mistake. On the day of the wedding we had a cheese and fruit appetizer set-up. Our stations were a slider station with bbq beef, shredded chicken, and Portobello; a pasta station with a choice of macaroni or penne pasta with vodka sauce and shrimp; and lastly the most amazing short ribs with mashed potatoes. Everything was fantastic! Like others say, our guests couldn't stop talking about our food (even two months later!). Continental even set-up a dessert bar and a mimosa bar for us even if though we didn't use their food items. They are sincerely the best caterers I have ever worked with. We hired Continental to cater our wedding. They had the best tasting food and most competitive prices of the dozen or more caterers we talked to so we were extremely happy to find them! They were one of the approved caterers for our venue (Scripps Seaside Forum) and it was reassuring knowing our caterer was an expert hosting events there. Many of our other vendors told us how professional and great Continental was, so we knew we made the right choice! We worked closely with Christie Radican who patiently went through many menu and rental adjustments with us. She was so pleasant to work with and everything turned out beyond our expectations! The table decor that Continental set up for our appetizers, dinner stations, and dessert stations were beautiful and really added to the fun and modern mood of our wedding. She also worked some magic and surprised us with the amazing midnight blue sequin tablecloths I had dreamed of. My husband and I booked Continental Catering to cater our cocktail hour and reception at the Scripps Seaside Forum last month. We were nervous booking them because we were planning the wedding from across the country and didn't have a chance to taste the food before we booked it. Catering is by far the most expensive part of a wedding, and we really cared about getting food that tasted good, as we've been to weddings where that was not the case. We did get to do a tasting after we booked over the holidays, and this put us at ease. The food was DELICIOUS. And at the wedding, they did not disappoint! Everyone loved it! We had a cheese and charcuterie station and hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour, a plated salad and food stations during the reception, and a late night snack of french fries. All went perfectly and tasted great. Several guests told us it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Thank you Christie and your staff for an amazing menu for my son and daughter-in-laws wedding. We went through many renditions of the event due to COVID restrictions but they hit it out of the park and they worked hard to accommodate us. The food was so delicious and they take great pride in their work and presentation. I have already recommended them to another couple. This is a long overdue and very deserving review for Continental Catering and particularly, Ashley Beauford, who worked closely with us to design a custom menu, coordinate all the party rentals, and actualize the decor for our 110 guest wedding (pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception dinner) last summer. Our food was delicious and beautiful- much better than the typical standard of wedding food which is mostly to serve for volume and not quality. Continental had a ton of great options from their catering menu but didn't even hesitate when we asked for custom items. We asked them to make a gaspacho appetizer shot with a grilled shrimp garnish that was a big hit with our crowd. We had vegans, vegetarians, and people with extreme allergies attend but Continental diligently labeled all items and informed servers so they were knowledgable when guests inquired about the food. We had an amazing meat and cheese spread for our cocktail hour which they added even more elegance to with their decor. With only 5 weeks to plan, Ashley took care of everything. Our wedding/recepon venue had only recently begun to host weddings and were uneasy about vendors delivering tables, chairs, etc. and originally required a very narrow window for all of that to occur. The venue also was new to the requirements of having alcohol served on their premises. Ashley worked with them behind the scenes to alleviate their concerns and we didn't even have to get involved. We are so thrilled we got to have Continental Catering take care of our event. It really made the day so special and we'll recommend them and Ashley Beauford, for as long as this business is around.
