    Literally after my mani pedicure
    Esquires S.

I was a walk in and I requested a mani/pedi and a shiny buff. When I was seated my nail tech NANCY was trying to upsale services but when I asked her about the difference between traditional/spa/ and zen spa she couldn't tell me the difference. When I requested shiny buff she made a face and said gel is better. I told her I don't want gel. After my pedicure was done she walked me over to start my mani. In the middle of my mani, one of her regulars came in and all of a sudden she attempts to do a rush job. She "did" a buff on my nails and nothing shined and when I brought it to her attention she said "you want the sides done?" Yes ma'am that is a part of my nail isn't it?!

    * Thoroughly Update: John is gone and so is any reason to come here. Nice atmosphere (building and equipment) but the customer service has declined severely. "Duke" does a terrible manicure. Save your time & your dime

Eyebrows by Lisa (per my request no arch, only cleaned up and keeping the thickness).

Entering Zen I was immediately a little uneasy due to the tone of the desk receptionist. She asked what I wanted and then told me to go to the back. While yelling she stood and begin walking behind me and yelled for Lisa. I moved to the side thinking she needed to be in front of me to point out where I should sit and wait for Lisa in the pedicure area but... She was no longer there. Lisa came from the back and begin my pedicure. I told Lisa I wanted a regular mani and pedi to which began the lackluster, half tail pedicure Lisa tried to give. She barely cut my cuticles and ever so gently brushed the pumice stone across the bottom of my feet. I haven't had a pedicure since September so I knew I needed to speak up. Which I did. Lisa also did my manicure and attempted to leave my nails uneven to which I again spoke up. Lisa appeared a little frustrated with me questioning her actions be I simply let her know that I can't leave looking any kind of way. She continued working and I continued checking over everything that was done. When she announced she was going to be the person doing my eyebrows I wanted to cry... If your eyebrows are jacked up there is no repair for WEEKS!! I looked her in her eyes and just told her how it is and don't mess up my eyebrows please! All in all in the end everything turned out okay BUT when I go to ang salon I want to relax and not have to watch over someone like a hawk. I was uneasy the entire time... Not sure if I'll go back to this salon.

Discover another small cut on my toe after leaving the nail shop. 2 small cuts in one visit. Accident I know, but still
    Felicia H.

This may have been my 3rd or 4th visit to Zen. I noticed after Covid restrictions you now MUST get gel pedicure, which is more expensive of course, but I wonder if it's ploy to just get more money. But anyway I've been 2 times recently for convenience. My visit on June 11 went well, however my visit yesterday was not so pleasant. Starting with the hour wait, but it's a holiday weekend so that's understandable. The real concern is that the nail tech accident my cut my ankle with the callous remover, I noticed during. Small cut. However once I walked out I noticed my bit toe stinging, I discovered I was cut there also. I went back in and told the front desk, I was given a 15% refund. As for the SNS manicure, it was ok. The guy acted like he didn't want to clean my hands up after, with all the powder residue. There was not attn to my cuticles, no lotion or oil applied to my hands. My visit total time yesterday was 3 hours!! All in all, this may have been my last visit.

Nude matte nails with non-matte gold foil design on ring finger.

I have been going to this salon for the last few months as a regular customer of Emily. Emily is 10/10, absolute recommend every time. Her ability to execute complex designs is unmatched. However, I needed to head out of town tomorrow and Emily was on vacation this week. FML. I go to the salon and inform the greeter I needed a fill-in. After around 15 min I was instructed to sit at Bryan's station. I should have known from the presence of random old nail chips from other clients and the way in which piles of nail dust accumulated where I was to place my feet under the station it was going to be a bad look. I looked past this and sat down. Before we get started I explained to him that I just needed a simple matte nude look with a little Gold foil on my two ring fingers. He said they did not have foil in the store. I clarified once again with him - as I still had gold foil on my old nails from this very salon. He went on to LIE and say that Emily has her own stuff which includes the gold foil and takes it when she leaves. Not understanding the lie at this time I continue to sit in the chair. Bryan was a little rough as he removed the old gel polish from my hands, which I also looked past. I informed him that I saw the nail on my left ring finger was lifting at the side from the acrylic. He informs me there is nothing he could do about that. I immediately pulled my hands away because that simply wasn't true. I explained to him that I wash my hands SEVERAL times a day and have reservations about water being able to enter under my nails. I additionally stated in the past Emily would use one of her electronic tools and carve out an area around the separated acrylic and use the cuticle cutter to remove that area. She would then smooth it down prior to completing the fill-in. I was immediately told "I'm not Emily" and no one in this shop does this. I then asked if the cuticle cutter can be used to chip away at the old acrylic in conjunction with using a fake nail tip to help pry away the old acrylic - which would allow for an overlay over my old nail. He again refused this solution and told me I would have to soak all my nails off. YOU THOUGHT! He then beckoned to the greeter who essentially said that my girl Emily is the most skilled person in there and others are not up to her level. Bet Bryan, if you were wack just say so! I politely ask for the fake nail tip and the cuticle cutter and proceed to remove the old acrylic from my nail myself. At this point I turn to the young lady next to me and ask "am I tripping". She said, "No...and with the amount of times he said 'I don't know how and I don't do', I wouldn't even feel comfortable with him doing my nails. That's why I always come to Lee". (Shout out to Lee, because his clients big him up. I don't know the man, but I digress.) At this point I explain to the greeter that Bryan has been talking down at me and his attitude was anything but professional or accommodating. I asked to be placed with a new nail technician. I am SOOOOOOO grateful I followed my gut. I sat at Bella's chair and the energy was day and night. She asked what I wanted and was so gentle with my hands. I explained the same nude and gold foil look to her I desired. Do you know she busted out a damn near Costco tub of gold foil? I asked her if this was communal. She said yes. I asked her in another way just to be sure, "so anyone in the shop has access to this?" She said yes again. I told her I was just beside myself because a few moments ago Bryan lied and said it did not exist. Anyway, Bella took her time and gave me exactly what I asked for. She's 10/10, def recommend. Please DO NOT sit in Bryan's chair - when you enter the shop second row on the left the aisle seat. You will regret it and drive up your blood pressure with his level of inadequacy. Now my boos Emily and Bella, try them out and you won't regret it!

First time to this place. Very nice, spacious and very clean. They greet you when you come in. My tech was Linda. She did excellent on my nails and feet. I have problems with ingrown toenails and she was able to clip my toenails and my toes feel excellent. Staff are very polite. Come on Tuesday or Wednesday. Pay cash save 15%!!!

Feet are so dry!! Didn't use any oil smh

Wow!! The disrespect I was given today was so uncalled for I'm a paying customer!!! I was treated as if i was trash here feelings are deeply hurt... All i wanted was a longer feet massage with a extra TIP!! I was told NO AND THEN DID A RUSH JOB ON MY FEET.. NEVER AGAIN

I loved some of the work I've gotten there in the past, but that's about it. First off, it's hard to build a rapport with anyone there because you seldom get the same tech, as they're always pretty crowded. Before today, I would still have given them five stars, but after my interaction with the front desk today, I'll have to rate them down. I went in about ten days ago to get my nails done and I broke one yesterday. I decided to stop in after work and get it repaired, but couldn't remember who did them. Several techs approached the desk and spoke among themselves, asking me--repeatedly--if I was sure I'd gotten them done there. I replied "yes" and explained that I wasn't trying to get a free repair. Then someone emerged from the back and adamantly insisted that I couldn't have had them done there because they don't have that color. I asked her to check the log inches from her. She wouldn't. So, I moved on and asked if they could accommodate the style (a nude and black ombré in a coffin shape). They agreed. Then the tech who asked disappeared for a few minutes and said the wait would be twenty minutes. I gave up and left. Aside from the wait time, I don't appreciate casually being called a liar to my face. I'll find another salon.

Joe did an amazing job on my fill-in. Amazing artist with designs, superb customer service with conversation and information. I would recommend him to make all your nail art dreams come true. Luv Ang

Both hands--my hands are stiff and shiny from all the acrylic and acetone. Disregard.

Stopped by because it was Tuesday and they offer a cash discount. I wanted a full set dipped ombré but no one could do it. The wait was pretty long but they finally admitted no one who didn't have appointments could do it so I accepted a recommendation to try colored acrylic powder. It looked pretty dark but I thought it would be better than pink...Bryan was quick, efficient, but he did talk me into nails much longer than I'd ordinarily consider. I'm having a hard time typing as we speak lol. I'm scared to find out how work will be! The color acrylic isn't the look I wanted. It IS ombré and it is nice so I still give 4 Stars but it's harsher and more defined than I wanted so I'll hold out for dipping next time. UPDATE SO I gave them another try and this is my honest opinion: they're scammers and/or extremely racist and/or bigoted and/or just have no qualms about their customer's experiences. They ABSOLUTELY have no desire to have their clientele actually have a relaxing, enjoyable experience. I mean, I guess if you don't have to work for your money... maybe there is really NO competition on Oxon Hill Road. I called several times to try to get an appointment, the guy kept saying "what time are you coming? Yeah, okay, we can do it." Suffice to say, they don't freaking take appointments. I got there at 6:30 and was left to soak FOR AN HOUR while they figured out who could do SNS ombré. I carefully asked the young black receptionist, who was reasonably friendly, if they could really do it or if they were going to make me wait two hours and try to trick me with acrylic again. She says there are 2 people who can do it: Li and Lin. Fine, Li is the girl, she's there. It's now 7:45 and she's FINALLY starting. Ok, I'm from Arizona but I don't think this is a regional thing: she was freaking RUDE. I asked questions, told her what I got and liked and EVERY TIME I mentioned another thing (I asked her to round out my nails more, they looked boxy and bad) she got more and more sullen. I wanted a basic SNS dipping powder in ombré. It's simple, I've been getting it for YEARS and it's $50 (this becomes relevant later). She took an hour and. A half to do it. Asked questions --this was actually okay because I like that she wants to know how I like it-- but was extra surly and just. UGH. At the end of the day, she just made want to leave. If I didn't have a professional job... yeah, I've been up since 6:45 too and I commute downtown and have two kids whose bedtimes I'm missing trying not to look like I've been planting potatoes with my bare hands so the LEAST you can do is act like you care a LITTLE about my presence or at least my money. This shop doesn't post prices but they do CONSPICUOUSLY post signs demanding cash tips and stating all the nickel and diming that they do (WHERE IN THE FRESH HELL DOES IT COST $5 FOR ANY SHAPE OTHER THAN SQUARE?!?). Anywhoo after she sucks her teeth and walks to the back YET AGAIN without communicating why --I've been getting this service for YEARS and never been asked some of these questions!!! She also told me an odd story about how one of her other clients went to Jacksonville, FL and the manicurist hadn't even heard of SNS. Ok, I get it, it's "relatively new." But NOT THAT NEW. I'VE LITERALLY BEEN GETTING IT FOR 5 YEARS. Anyways, I get up when it seems dry because it's nearing 9 o clock and I've got to go...and now she comes running back to check if it's dry...ummm....and then she says: "It's $65". SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS. For a manicure. She says it's because I had to get a "soak off" first. The soak off that I had to get because they put acrylic on my nails because no one could do ombré...rigggghhht. And then she had the AUDACITY and UNMITIGATED GALL to say "It's usually another $10 for the manicure, but I didn't charge you." The SNS manicure that I requested when I walked in the door?!? OKAY HEFFA, OKAY. Basically, these people are scamming the IRS and anyone else they think is dumb enough to bite. Now I have to find a manicure spot downtown because I. Will. Be. JOHN. BROWNED. (Do I know what that means, no, but my mama raised me better than to cuss on Al Gore's innanets). When I go into a salon, I expect to be given a RELAXING experienced. I expect to not have to take out my calculator to figure out what a MANICURE will cost. I expect to not have to micro-manage a SIMPLE service, and I expect to get GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. You don't have to like me, but at least be po-freaking-lite. This was the first time in my life I didn't tip on a service and I don't regret it. My nails look good tho. So if you don't mind rudeness and shenanigans, go see Li or whateva.

I have been going here for quite some time. Phonz use to do my eyebrows really good when he wasn't rushing. Don't get me wrong even rushed they was good. But not BOMB like when he isn't rushing. I say use to as in past tense because I was escorted out today. I was escorted out because of my Yelp review. He refused me service. Honestly I was going to write another review today once I left after my service was completed. He wasn't rude with his words but very sarcastic and it came off rude. He was such a coward he couldnt even look me in my face he kept looking down. When he refused me service and explained to me why. I said your upset because I told the truth on my review. Update the Tech I was speaking on he moved her she not at that first chair she's to the wall. Same side though. I can see why the good people he has leaves. I have never been thrown out of an establishment because of my review. I guess because it was true it hit home. ***IF YOU ARE A YELPER & STAND BY YOUR REVIEWS GOOD OR BAD DONT GO TO THIS PLACE!

I have been going to this establishment since they opened and have seen techs come and go. There is…read moreno original staff in there except an older lady. I was able to have two really good nail techs during this duration. Keep in mind that this nail salon opened between 2010-2011 to give reference for how long I've been a customer. I've been swamped with research papers and my friend is getting married tomorrow so I had to go to the nail shop today. When I walk in I don't see my regular tech and I'm like shoot what's today? Wednesday? I said oh Jo Jo isn't here. She doesn't work on Wednesdays. I really didn't want to take the chance in coming back in the morning because the wedding is at 10:30. The guy who manages the shop sends me to a lady who I later find out name is Kelly. Kelly asked me how I wanted my nails and I told her I'm going to a wedding so I want something simple so I'm gonna get French manicure on my hands and my feet. After Kelly lays the foundation for my nails she proceeds to start doing the white for the French tips. After two nails I asked her to stop because I could tell that it wasn't coming out good. I asked the lady sitting next to me. Am I tripping or does something look off about this? The lady in the chair next to me says yeah she needs to round it a little more. So after a little while trying to fix it Kelly just couldn't get it together and I asked her to just take the white off and I just had her to put a clear glitter polish over the nude base. It wasn't what I wanted, but it would do. My issue comes in when I get the pedicure. When I get the pedicure, Kelly proceeds to immediately start doing a half a** job. I don't if she's tired, irritated because she'll now be pad less since French manicure is more and I'm no longer getting it on my hands or feet. She's rushing, she's not handling my feet with care at all. I noticed that she had proceeded going to a step that I know is after a step she didn't do in the pedicure process. So I say, hey you're not going to clean around my toes? you're not gonna clean my cuticles? She then proceeds to start that process and now I'm a little taken aback. She also didn't do a great job at that either because when she polished my toes, my toes still look like they need to be cleaned up a little more. So at this point, I asked for the guy who's managing the shop. He act like he doesn't wanna come over and assist her. I let him know that I'm not happy with the service that I received. He says he doesn't see an issue when every other customer in there is saying that, yeah, this doesn't look how it should look. There was nothing professional looking about my feet. I've been getting pedicures since I was 13 and I'm 38! I get pedicures every 2-3 weeks all year round. So I just sucked it up and said this will be my last time at this establishment. I do not suggest anybody to go here. After 15-16 years it's time to find a new place. Even though this place is being run into the ground I still was loyal. NEVER AGAIN!

He rushed through the job and kept banging the gel light on my toes when they were drying so he had to redo a nail at the end. He also made the french part extremely skinny and uneven. Wasnt happy with my experience and most likely will not go back.
