    Spinach Pesto Slice ($6.50)
    RonCanEat T.

Tasty Pricey !!! The taste of the pizza is "above" average, but the PRICE is not average. . We ordered 3 slices that totaled $22.50, plus 2 cans of regular soda for $6.50. And, they are not large Costco Slices, just a regular size slice. On Zelo's it suggests 1-2 slices per person. I would go back if their prices were more reasonable.

Cheese pizza with pepperoni added. If you order just a pepperoni pizza, there is no sauce and it comes with tomatoes.

What is pleasant surprise - small hole in the wall place you have to try. Who would've known that cornmeal crusted pizza could taste so good!?!

Cornmeal crust pizza brought to the San Gabriel Valley from San Francisco! This pizza is deep dish style, and the cornmeal flavor and texture is something unique that sets it apart from other pizza joints. It's a bit crispy, crunchy, and meal-y. Served by the slice, half, or whole pizza- our party felt like two slices were very filling. They have some slices that catered to our vegetarian and vegan friends, namely the spinach pesto pizza and the Della salute, which is Zelo's veggie pizza without cheese. We have a mixed-preference friend group and these offerings helped us select this location for our dinner meetup. Fresh ingredients all around for the sausage pizza, as well, really substantial marinated peppers, eggplant, onions, and mushrooms decorated each slice. Everything slapped, We also ate appetizer meatballs and garlic bread, and those were no slouch either. Next time we need to be sure to make room for dessert. Lovely space, with a cool mix of Americana/music/pop culture memorabilia all over the walls. Such a friendly and inviting staff, who were responsive to our (many) questions. I also dug the eclectic music mix played for ambiance. I heard songs that caught my ears a few times, and had to use a music ID app.

The cornmeal crust is out of this world! Definitely a new favorite pizza takeout option in our household. Can't wait to try more of their pizza options!

A local gem in the heart of Arcadia. It was highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Their pizzas are unique and delicious. The thickness of the pizza crust tasted like it was between thin crust and regular crust. We got their famous corn with caramelized onion pizza (very good!) and their 1/2 pepperoni & 1/2 sausage pizza (it was just ok). The corn pizza wins hands down! We will come back again.

We've been going to Zelo's for years. And every time we go, we are glad we did. Great food and great staff!

Beware first timers, the pizza isn't your typical pizza crust. They are cornmeal based so it's hard and crunchy. I think you either love it or hate it. Personally I think it's pretty good but it can be pretty heavy. The beet salad is pretty good too. The beet is nice and tender, pairs together nicely with the leaf, nuts, and blue cheese. Half is definitely big enough size to share if you're eating with pizza. The highlight of the meal is definitely the zucotto cake. It's really smooth and the cake part is really moist. It's pretty pricey though, $10 for a slice. But it is a big slice soooo. The staff is nice and friendly. This place have a few seats outside so you can enjoy the breeze under umbrella, or sit inside with ac and watch outside thru the window. Old school vibe. Tip is to definitely call ahead for the pizza. You can expect to wait 20+ minutes. We were eating the salad so slow and still managed to almost finish it before the pizza came.

Upon arriving, staff was very friendly. We were able to sit anywhere we wanted. The ambiance wasn't too loud so that was nice. We ordered a ceasar salad and a half sausage pizza. The ceasar salad was not a traditional ceasar salad. The dressing was more of a lemon vinaigrette and the croutons used were REALLY SMALL. The vinaigrette was tasty but it just was not what we expected. The pizza, the dough was very hard. Usually deep dish pizza is crispy on the outside and still fluffy at the same time. This dough was just hard and way over cooked. The sauce and toppings were tasty. Our server knew we were in between the pesto so she was kind enough to add a slice of the pesto there for us. Overall, restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly.

But we really came here because of what we heard about the food, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely make a reservation if you are going on the weekend. We got there early and were lucky to be seated a little early. It was an outside table so the view of Del Taco was a bit weird given the quality of food but just need to ignore that. I don't remember the names of the items we ordered but they were all great. Calamari and beef carpaccio for starters, as well as a crab bisque. The mains were the sausage and black truffle pasta (our favorite), lobster pasta, and scallops and squid ink. Tiramisu for dessert, and they also gave us a refreshing spritzer type of drink. Can't remember the name but it's apparently derived from grapes. Definitely not cheap if you get the specials which the three pastas above are, but we really enjoyed it and plan to return again soon.

Based on the five-star reviews, I felt I was making the best choice for dinner with my brother and his wife up fom Palm Springs for an event in Duarte. The pleasant, personable atitude from all involved in our dining experience leaves me reluctant to leave this review - however, I feel it important to point out the service and food issues that made this visit a less than optimal one. If the issues were limied to just one, or maybe two, I would not have bothered to mention them. However, a litany of small issues can compound to a point where one has to question their choice, especially when the establishment promises a refined, upscale dining experience. It started with the first course, wIth.my wie and I being served the wrong salad. We did not make any mention of this, as the waiter was kind enough to divide the salad into two portions, and we did not want to hold up the rest of the party. Then my brothers' dish, ("Grandma's" meatballs with meat sauce, I believe), ordered with rigatoni, was delivered - but with spaghetti instead of the requested rigatoni. Now this should not be a big deal, as the dish should be quickly replaced with an apology. No, the waiter was resistant, had to check his notes. At the table, where all of us heard the order specify rigatoni. He left(presumably to get permission), finally returning to reluctantly take the dish for replacement. Really? At an upscale restaurant? To his credit the waiter did bring a small portion of a very good crab bisque so my brother could join the rest of us as we ate and he waited. Then it was the little things - refills of iced tea and coffee never offered. Ground pepper and parmesan cheese(needed for the rather bland pesto) never offered, had to ask. And that pesto sauce - pine nuts? Where? That dish - as well as my wife's Ala Checca and my bro's aforementioned dish, all ok, if rather bland, missing that something to make the dishes 'pop'. Oh, and the afterdinner apertif mentioned in other reviews? Not to be. I realize I am risking the wrath of the owner with my review, but I do not believe any of my expectations are unreasonable for a restaurant that boasts of offering a high end dining experience, at a high end price. . and a customer should never be made to feel guilt for pointing out a mistake. A generous four stars for the bread and marinara, the crab bisque, the tasty wines, and the cheerful welcome.

Our server was a young man named Courage, and I appreciated his patience and good manners. The host at the front counter was pleasant to interact with as well. The food was good overall, but somewhat hit or miss. We tried the 40z Florentine T-Bone Steak for Two (ordered medium), and found it to be acceptable overall - some portions seemed closer to medium rare, while other sections seemed well done. I'm no expert on steaks, and my limited understanding is that a steak this massive can show variation in Doneness, so please disregard this observation if you believe it to be unduly critical. I plan to return and sample the other steaks (and dishes) at this eatery, I get the feeling I will probably find them to be more to my liking. Of note is the restaurant's (current) novel menu pricing model - their steaks (and a few other items from what I remember) are 50% off their listed price every day except for "holidays and special occasions" (or something along those lines). I would consider this dynamic pricing model better than restaurants who mark *up* their listed prices during select days of the year (e.g. Valentine's Day). The parking lot is on the small side, but we were fortunately able to secure a space during our visit. The chimichurri that accompanies the steak is a bit on the noticeably spicy side.

There were 4 options for the starter and entree. I chose the Meatball for starter and Chilean sea bass. Garlic bread was brought out at 1:23 pm. No plates were brought out for the garlic bread so I ate the bread on a napkin. Candle was lit at 1:43. My meatball was placed down at 1:50. The Chilean seabass was placed down at 2:06 pm. The sauce was white wine and the sea bass was perfect. Easy to chew and cooked to perfection. The mashed potato was very soft, almost runny but not quite. The white wine sauce made it too soft. Dessert was bread pudding and it was placed at 2:55. We had finished the entrees but he forgot that it came from the Mother's Day menu and cooks were still preparing food for other guests. There are at least 6 tables on the first floor. Bread pudding was the only option for dessert. It was delicious. It came with frosting, vanilla ice cream I think, a sprig of mint, cut up strawberry. The menu says that the steak is 50% off except for holidays and occasions. But on the receipt the 50% discount was applied. So that was a welcome surprise. It made me not mind the waiting times for the food. The restaurant lighting was red which was a choice. Photos lined one wall and presumably other walls.

They use the same parking lot as Summerfield so it can get busy at some times. I called in to place an order for dinner and it was super easy and convenient. I ordered their Di Pilla Special pizza and a medium Parpadelle special pasta. The total for these dishes came out to be $62. Their portions are quite large since they're a family style restaurant. They also gave us complimentary bread which tasted amazing! I will say that I felt really heavy and full after this meal so this is definitely a cheat meal type of food. Food: Parpadelle Special Pasta (9/10): The noodles are huge and thick and the sauce gets absorbed perfectly. There's mushrooms, spinach, chicken with a white sauce base. They loaded this dish up with sauce which was heavenly. I even dipped my complimentary bread in the sauce because it just tasted that good. The chicken was so soft and wasn't overcooked at all. Between a family of three, there was a perfect amount and didn't have any leftovers. Di Pilla Special Pizza (9/10): Wow, the amount of toppings? Insane. We ordered the medium size which is a 14 inch. There was pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, hamburger, and bacon. I had to go back to their menu to see what toppings there were because wow was there a load full. I thought that the mushroom and bell pepper did overpower most of the slice. We had so many slices left over because of how full each slice makes you. I had it the day after and It was still tasty. He knew precisely what he wanted & it took me a bit to decide. The chicken piccata was the winner & I opted for angel hair with plenty of veggies. The table bread was pretty tasty with the balsamic & olive oil. Hubby wasn't all that impressed with his dish but I found it much better than my flavorless meal. Mine lacked depth-- did they season it? It was rather disappointing. I was hoping to have a local Italian restaurant as a go to but sadly, it wasn't at all a great first impression. If Hubby didn't care for his meal, I doubt he would be convinced to revisit to give it another fair shake. At least the Chianti was great choice. Too bad, I had high hopes for Di Pilla's. We order this every time we come and this time, the seasoning is different. Don't get me wrong, it was still okay but since we already know how it is supposed to taste, based on the last 10 visits, this dish was a thumbs down this time. The seasoning on the lamb chops this time is something I would taste at a Chinese skewer spot. For the main dishes, we had ordered the branzino, the pork chop, dry aged NY strip, and crab tagliatelle. The branzino was not new to us but the rest are. They were all good except we would never order the pork chop again. When the pork chops arrive, my partner looked disappointed but still ate it. He had forced me to try some as well. We discussed it afterwards and the best way to compare it to is like eating Dave's Hot Chicken without the pickles and buns and has the coleslaw looking stuff with arugula mixed in. Although we didn't catch Wendy , the experience was still fantastic, Wendy you're killing it in Pasadena !!

I finally struck gold…read more For Mother's Day, my children treated my wife and me to lunch at Uovo in Pasadena. As Italians born and raised in Italy, we grew up eating pasta almost daily, and I consider myself a pretty decent cook and connoisseur of pasta sauces and traditional dishes. Uovo delivered in every way. We tried their tasting menu, which included pasta all'amatriciana, carbonara, tortellini in a beautifully clear broth, and a rich Bolognese sauce. Every dish delivered an explosion of flavor. The guanciale was among the best I've ever eaten outside of Italy. Kudos to Uovo for delivering true Italian flavors that so many so-called Italian restaurants fail to achieve. If I had one small criticism, it would be that they don't serve Italian bread. When the sauce is this good, "la scarpetta" is mandatory. Pasta is the heart and soul of any Italian restaurant, and not knowing how to properly cook it is a cardinal sin. We can't wait to visit Uovo again soon.
