Would loved the chance to go to The Lighthouse for pinto bean Thursday. On this visit I went to try a real all time favorite, the Filet of Fish sandwich at McDonald's. This sandwich, which was introduced in Cincinnati in 1962 by a franchise owner whose restaurant was in a heavily Catholic neighborhood. He wanted to have something to offer to help offset the drop in burger sales on Fridays. It worked and it remains a menu favorite after 63 years. The fish changed from Atlantic Cod to Alaskan Pollack due to sustainable populations. And I like many folks believe the size of the filet has shrunk some. The pollack filets are stacked and cut into uniform squares which provides uniform size and reduces waste. The filets are breaded and partially cooked at the processing plants, then flash frozen before being shipped to the individual restaurants, where it is deep fried until crispy! So my square fish filet had quite the journey before being nestled in a steamed bun with half a slice of cheese, then topped with tartar sauce! There are better fish sandwiches available at Culver's and Showmar's for example, but one of these occasionally is nice!

And not for the sandwich. PSA: this sandwich is NOT made for eating while in the car. Doing so will probably result in being decorated with pimento cheese in places you didn't foresee. Sandwich had an ample portion of pimento cheese. It does squeeze out the sides when you bite it so be warned. The cheese is delicious and creamy. The jalapeños are not crazy hot like some can be. They offer a nice glow and jalapeño flavor to the sandwich. The honey adds a nice note of subtle sweetness. The cheese, jalapeños and honey work very well together. The cheese takes center stage but is made even better with the spiciness of the peppers and subtle sweetness of the honey. And even with all this going on, you still get that unmistakable flavor of the chicken filet. 9/10 overall. I will like the Thai Crunch sandwich a little better.

The restaurant is clean and the staff is nice but they will not get your order correct at the drive-through. They are pretty much zero for four on our last orders. I won't drive home anymore because it's too far away to check then and I'm not going back. The funniest part is we downloaded their new app to solve against this and made our order through that so they had it ahead of time right in front of them and they still missed four items. I'm not sure how you can solve this. It's obviously them and the care they take preparing the bags they hand out the window. But they will always correct it.
