My only issue was that the breading felt like it was missing a little something, maybe more seasoning, pepper, or some extra flavor. Growing up with places like Gus's Fried Chicken in Memphis and Nashville hot chicken, I think I naturally expect a little more punch from the chicken itself. The sauce they serve is more of a barbecue style sauce, and while it worked, I personally didn't love it enough for it to carry all the flavor. The sides were a mixed bag. The collard greens were really good and definitely one of the highlights. The coleslaw, though, was way too pepper heavy for my taste. Also, the piece of bread that comes with the meal was honestly not worth the calories. I'd rather see them either upgrade the bread or skip it altogether. One unexpected highlight was the pebble ice from the drink machine. Small detail, but it was awesome and definitely appreciated. Overall, I'd come back and try some different sides because the chicken itself is worth returning for. With a little more seasoning or some different sauce options, I could see this being a 5 star spot.

Once again I decided to sample the Chicago-style hot dogs offered here. And there have been improvements since my first visit. The product now comes on an actual poppy seed bun, as it should. I don't think the bun was steamed though and that hurts the texture. The hot dog itself had a good snap and taste, and the through-the-garden toppings were loaded well onto the bun. Something's still missing about the overall taste though, as these simply don't measure up to other Chicago-style hot dogs I've had -- including many far away from Chicago. The build of the sandwich looks closer to being correct than it did five years ago, but the flavors are still wrong, and I wish they'd work to figure out what it is they're missing. I placed my order on site rather than calling it in, and the young lady at the counter was pleasant. It took a little longer than I'd expected for the kitchen to prepare my order; maybe they just don't get many requests for the Windy City dog and they're just not well versed in putting it together? This latest experience leaves me scoring Joe's somewhere between two and three stars, and though the food was better than last time I still lean towards the lower side of that range. There is plenty of parking available to the left side of the store. I ordered the Ox Tail plate which comes with rice, pigeon peas, shredded cabbage, and sweet plantains. I also tried the Cod Fritter. The order was complete in around 10 minutes since all that was required was to place the already cooked items in a take out container. The Ox Tail was excellent - falling off the bone tender with a lot of flavor. As always with this dish, there are small bones as well as the large ones, and there will be some small area of gristle, so some caution is required as you eat. The rice, peas, cabbage mixture and the plantains were all very good, though a bit under seasoned for my tastes - some salt and a bit of hot sauce cured that up quickly. I didn't care for the well sized fritter, there was no flavor and it was rather greasy. The cost was $18, and while there was a lot of food (take out container was packed full), most of it was the rice, peas, etc. The ox tail was not overly abundant. The service was great, pleasant and efficient. I will come back to try the Goat Curry, Jerk Chicken, and the Fish Stew. Ambiance - 2 (as you would expect) Food - 4 Service - 4.5 Value - 3
