I've had this place on my list of place to try for a while now and I finally got to try it this past weekend. I'm so glad I came in, the food was delicious! My friend and I decided to split a few dishes since we wanted to get a feel for the menu. We ended up ordering the traditional pizza and the blackened pasta with chicken. They were both delicious! My favorite was the pizza, it had a nice charred taste to it from the wood-fire and they did not skimp on the toppings. The pasta had a nice flavor to it, I just wish the chicken had a little bit more seasoning. Catherine, our waitress, was fantastic!! Super friendly and funny. If you're going to get 2 bottles of wine- get a new glass with the new bottle. The devine pizza is my favorite and it's delicious. So 4 stars. BUT after a long hard Friday we went for 2 bottles of wine and 2 different flavors (both still white wine) so we didn't think getting a new glass would matter. Well the second bottle of wine was not drinkable. It was actually disgusting. I asked what the wine policy was and we got half off. Which is great it's more than what I expected. BUT APPARENTLY... if we would have just gotten new wine glasses the waiter would have let us try before we buy. Would have still been super awkward but it will save you $26. Waitress came back and said they were out. I ordered the meatballs. My friends in Hilton head cook better meatballs at home fresh. Before I even visited Za's on Devine, my gf had several stories of when she used to live in Columbia and where her and her friends would go often for pizza because Za's was one of those places with amazing pizza. That was years ago, so when I tried it, Guess what....the pizza was really good! When we paid them a visit it was pretty busy, so much so that even in the shared lot, it was tough to find a parking spot! We got our food to go and took the following with us: Traditional 8" pizza ($11) Veggie calzone ($10) Toasted Brussels sprouts ($5) While they do have physical menus, I do like how their to go orders allow you to scan a QR code on your phone to access their latest menu on their phone. Nice! I ordered myself the traditional pizza, a "supreme" equivalent, having toppings including pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, pepper with mozzarella and tomato sauce. Served on a thin crust, I have to tell you, I loved this pizza! It's probably the best item we had from Za's, and I highly recommend grabbing a crispy, bursting with flavor slice with all those fresh toppings! My gf ordered for herself the veggie calzone. I wont even get into all of the veggies that are stuffed in here, but the complaint she had was the veggies ended up "sweating" in the crust and there was a ton of fluid pouring out of the calzone, making it mushy. Sadly, she ate more of my pizza and I ate more of her calzone (I had the same observation about it being soggy). We really enjoyed their side of of marinara for dipping but at the end of the day, I likely wouldn't order their veggie again if and whenever I come back here. Last up are the toasted brussels, which come with nice thick cuts of bacon and a sweet balsamic glaze. Here's the thing with the brussels...while the flavor of the brussels were phenomenal, man the grease from the bacon made the dish very heavy. We finished it, but yea, it's greasy, so keep that in mind! I like Za's on devine. As the name suggests, you can locate them off of Devine. They do have a shared lot again, but understand that this place is busy and you may have to wait for someone to leave before you get a spot. Great atmosphere. They have a parking lot which is always a plus. We ordered wings, cheese sticks and a calzone. The wings were were cooked to perfection. The Cheese sticks had the best sauce paired with it! I forgot what my waitress called it but it wasn't a marinara, it was something else. Our waitress said they make it in-house. It's hard to find food on a low salt diet in Columbia. The problem is most places have preseasoned their food and sauces before serving. Za's hit the spot today when I ordered their salmon without seasoning! I squeezed some lemon on top and it had a great taste and was perfectly cooked. The salad was great also! They brought me some oil & red wine vinegar (I requested) to put on top and it was excellent. I had them separate them as I love more red wine vinegar than oil. Great meal! read more

We had a strong craving for some pizza, and wanted to stray away from our usual spots so we settled on Za's. It' was Sunday afternoon, so just any professional brunch-goer... we ordered the mimosa bucket. Nothing special, just your average mimosa, but still have to mention it lol. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, and while we prefer our spinach dip with chips, they serve theirs with pita bread. The dip itself was flavorful and even had a nice unexpected kick. As for pizzas, I asked our waitress for her recommendation between BBQ chicken and the white cheese... to which she quickly answered "white cheese all the way". Long story short, she was right... the cheese combo was delicious, and I wasn't even upset about it not having meat (it didn't need it). Kelsay ordered the Devine pie which has white sauce, chicken, pepperoni, multiple cheese, spinach and bruschetta. A stacked pie, but tons of flavor. Unfortunately cannot recommend this place any longer. Have been coming here since they opened but hadn't been in a while. We used the Yelp wait list and when we arrived were told they no longer used it. We had to be added to the paper list and it took about 30 minutes to get a table. Took over an hour to get our food and when it arrived, the pizzas barely had any toppings. Server was nice but clearly having to cover multiple stations. We ordered from door dash and had it delivered to our hotel. The meal had promise but what we received was not great. The 8" traditional pizza with numerous toppings was decent, good flavor but cold. Not necessarily a restaurant issue. The pasta carbonara could easily have been voted the least appetizing looking dish in the upstate. It was awful. No care was taken in the prep of this meal - large chicken pieces were awkwardly pulled or ripped apart. The amount of cream was overwhelming. This was not a recipe, but an awkward compilation of ingredients that just didn't work. No effort was made to create a cohesive dish. The salad was small but satisfying for the crunch and freshness. The garlic bread was another mess - half burned, ripped apart, and not a pleasure to eat. Once again both Door Dash and the restaurant failed us. Staying at a hotel people!! A friend and I visited Za's today for a late lunch -- loved it! We chose to eat outside under the shade. Our server wore a mask and gloves and the menu was available online (physical copy provided upon request). We ordered a Caesar salad, beet salad, and a 14" Za's Devine Pizza (super yummy, brick-oven baked thin crust!). The beet salad had arugula, roasted pecans, beets, blue cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette (excellent). The salads came out the same time as the pizza -- wish they had been served about 20 minutes before. Extra thanks to the lovely server for turning on the fan for us to give us a little breeze and help keep flies away outside and for keeping us cool with ice-cold water while we ate. She was constantly talking with other employees and worrying more about cleaning the menus then helping customers who just wanted to get their name on the list. She also was seating people out of order and picking and choosing who she wanted to help rather than the people who had obviously been waiting in line. The location is convenient with plenty of parking, Seating is outside or inside, you can also bring your pet for outside dining. The bldg. is well kept and I like the layout of the restaurant, bathrooms were clean. The staff is always friendly and on point on all my visits. On this visit we had drinks and pizza, everything was good and had a great taste. The food was very good, we had pizza and salad. The food was a solid 4.5. However, the service left much to be desired. They seem inexperienced and poorly trained, as well as lacking in common sense. We were passing through Columbia, and staying in a local hotel. We enjoyed the food so much on our south bound trip to Florida, we decided to eat there again on our return to Ohio. That's when things got sketchy. Having driven all day, and knowing we would be hungry and that our arrival would be close to closing, I called ahead to place our order, with the GPS providing a pretty reliable time of arrival. When I ordered, I made it clear that we were driving and was about 90 minutes out. She replied, that's ok, I'll put it in the warmer. When we arrived, I asked for plastic ware for our salads, as we were in a hotel, and not only did they not have such, the employee couldn't have cared less about our plight. We had our dog with us, so eating inside the restaurant was not an option. Fortunately, my wife had packed a small school-like pencil bag with silverware, for just such an emergency. Considering the popularity of food to-go these days, and being a college town, where people are often staying in hotels while visiting, having forks and spoons available with a menu that features salads and pasta dishes, shouldn't seem like such a novel request! Although our food was takeout, the atmosphere seemed charming and the hotel clerk, who recommended Za's indicated that they often featured live music. I've been avoiding Za's for years because my wife wanted to go. I'm not big on "fancy pizza", but I viewed the menu and saw like most pizza places there was Italian food so it was a go. I know it is a Columbia institution so it has been on my list for a while. We also hosted a Bridal Shower at the same time so it was pretty conveniently planned. I got the chicken Parmesan and was relatively happy with it. The pasta was very good and their marinara sauce was perfectly sweet. I did think the chicken was definitely on the smaller side and that it was necessarily chicken parm type chicken. You know...beaten really flat and crispy. I also got to try some of their pizza (just a pepperoni slice) and was actually very impressed with it. It was perfectly sweet and all the ingredients tasted very high quality. Anyway, Za's was a very affordable pizza/Italian place that is really fun to just hang out at. I want to go back and it will probably be put on my list of Columbia favorites. read more

We sat behind the bar in a corner, the bartender and a regular were making comments (loudly) about my daughter being excited about food. She was not having a tantrum and was just happy to eat. The patron continued to talk about my child to other people sitting at the bar. The bartender did nothing to stop this (not that that is her job) and engaged in the conversation herself.
