I feel like I have to warn people about this place. I did ART for 2 years, I have given up on them after about 3k+ down the drain with them. I have very little progress for TWO YEARS on the removal and a lot of scaring (which i was warned of). Not only that but they offer very little in service for the pain relief. I even heard her call me a baby about being in pain (im getting a spider web on my knee removed btw) After 2 years and little progress(like halfway gone), I have gone to a doctor instead. Also they are expensive for no reason and have the audacity to ask for a tip at the end. The owner is really unprofessional. He came up to me and asked me if i did very hard drugs as a "joke". Stay away, they are taking your money. AMAZING! From start to finish this place is 5 star worthy. I originally just called out of curiosity to find out about pricing for a few unsightly tattoos that I have since I am starting a new job where visible tattoos are not allowed. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. I wish I had gotten her name. I booked a complimentary consultation for the following day to get a better idea of how much my tattoos would cost. I unfortunately ran into some 495 traffic so I called letting them know I would be late and they were able to reschedule me within the hour. Upon arrival the office was beautiful and welcoming. The decor was modern and up to date. I was welcomed by the receptionist and given some paperwork to fill out. As soon as I was finished, I was taken back to have some pictures of my tattoos taken and measured. I then met with the owner, Chris. My consultation with Chris was extremely thorough and helpful. He spent a good amount of time with me examining my tattoos and explaining the process. I appreciated that he did not sugar coat anything and explained nothing is guaranteed when it comes to tattoo removal. He is very knowledgeable in his field. Although I was just there for a consultation I asked if I could start the process today and he said yes and so I did. My technician, Dani, was absolutely the best! She is so sweet, smart, friendly and was very fast! She made sure I was comfortable the entire time. She continuously asked if I needed a break and or made sure I told her if I did. The screen requires you to flip the phone into landscape view or else you cant see what you are inputing. I tried entering in my credit card 3 times with auto fill and 7 times manually with my card in front of me and it kept telling me my IPS merchant ID was wrong. Wtf does that even mean? So far, I see very little results from my treatment and I'm disappointed having paid $600 for 2 square inches and not seeing much change, in fact part of the tattoo is darker and more pronounced than it was. okay.. i'm not the type to leave a review but this establishment is AMAZING! i was itching to get another tattoo as a small birthday gift and it ended up being a absolute nightmare... i literally cried for 2 days straight. i called Chris (the owner) less than 24 hours after the tattoo and scheduled my appointment about 2 weeks out. april 6th rolls around and when i tell you i was nervous.. lol that's an understatement. i actually got lost on my way there and couldn't figure out where to park and the lovely receptionist that day even helped me out and figured out what car i was in so that she could guide me to the right lot. upon entry the shop is beautiful. super bright and inviting. everyone is so kind and the whole process of checking in was super smooth. mostly just forms to get background information. i was really appreciative of how thorough the forms were since i'm a person who has a lot of skin issues and I honestly had no idea how I would react to a tattoo removal. after talking with the owner during my consultation i decided to go with ARRT. its great that they offer same day treatment! it's expensive not going to lie but it's totally worth it. I was afraid to write this post due to fear of retaliation but this is important. I'm not a confrontational person and try to be as positive and cooperative as I can be. I went into ZAPATAT on Sunday 27 June 21 to have the ART procedure done to remove my tattoo on my arm. I have had 4 successful single passes in the past in a different state and due to relocating, I had to find another business to finish the removal process, so after months of review, I chose ZAPATAT. During my initial consultation and the procedure, the staff members including the owner, were very nice and pleasant. Ms. Carmen performed my procedure and walked me through the entire thing. The procedure requires 4 laser passes to complete. The first laser pass was the most excruciating pain I had ever felt but I was assured that the pain would get better over the next passes and it did. After the process was complete, I felt weak from all of the pain, so much so that it took 10 mins for me to gather myself in my car to drive home. The next day (Monday) I went to work and discovered what you see in the photos. My arm was severely blistered and I was in so much pain. I called ZAPATAT a few times and left a voicemail asking what to do. After no return call, I went to the ER and was treated for 2nd degree burns. I finally received a return call on Tuesday after 5 pm and was told to come in to have Ms Carmen take a look and I did. She assured me that the reaction I had was normal, which is the scary part, because I wasn't warned that this procedure would leave such severe results right after. I sat in the procedure room crying in pain explaining to her and Chris the owner how upset I was. Upon leaving I asked Chris if there was a satisfaction guarantee that offered me a portion of my payment of $1,071 back if it didn't heal correctly. He offered me $200 cash at that moment and reassured me that everything would be alright and after I had begged him to, that he would use my pics to inform his customers going forward of the potential risks and results. I left, got in the car and called my boyfriend sobbing. My bf knew that the money wasn't the issue, however, warning future clients was important to me. He told me to return to ZAPATAT to return the $200 cash so I did. When I returned I was greeted by Chris and the receptionist. I told them I couldn't take the cash and that it is important that customers know of the potential risks of ART instead. My bf was on speaker on my phone to help me explain how I was feeling. Chris was calm at first but then got really upset and went off on the both of us in front of his entire staff. I was in shock. My bf then asked for a full refund, which Chris hesitated at first but granted me in the end. During what seemed like 10 mins to process the refund, I stood there crying as the owner yelled and curse at my bf, the staff and I, slammed the counters and threw things, stopping to apologize once before continuing his rant and verbal abuse. I left in tears, mentally, physically and emotionally scarred and the next day I received a voicemail apology from Chris which didn't make me feel any better. This review is long however I wanted to write it to inform anyone considering the ART procedure at ZAPATAT to think twice. Every one is different however there is a possibility that this can happen to you. The staff was very nice and attentive, even the owner in the beginning. It was just a horrible ending. Please be sure to do your research and think long and hard about the ART procedure, I'm sure the single passes they offer are much safer. The pictures of the blisters were taken the day after the ART treatment in the ER. The pictures of the dry skin were taken one week later after a week of antibiotics, pain meds, steroids and burn cream. I've read the previous negative reviews online and have seen the harsh responses to each by the owner, I just never thought I'd witness it in person. It's only fitting that my first major review back after my Yelp hiatus is for tattoo removal, since my first major review ever was for my first tattoo (which is not the one I'm getting treated!). So, 48 hours after screaming like a banshee (this was during the first pass only, I should clarify), I write this review. First, logistics. The place is easy to find, though we nearly missed the parking and had to make a weird turn to get into it. The lot has compact and normal spaces for whatever your mode of transportation. Inside, as other reviews mention, is clean and modern, with relatively high ceilings (or maybe that was just because I was lying down for my treatment). Treatment rooms are closed by enormous curtains and there's a small consultation nook. Christian went through the consultation with me, taking photos and telling me about how it works, showing past treatment photos, etc. I view tattoo removal like any other major procedure - once you're in there getting a consultation, you're 99% sure you want to get the thing started, unless you get thrown some surprises, which you won't here at Zapatat. Literally everything Christian told me is transparent and on their website, including costs. I knew I wanted to get started, so I opted for the ART (the accelerated 4 passess in one session). I ice up for about 10 minutes and then Carmen comes in and gets her stuff ready, tells me that she'll be saying exactly what she's doing and does a countdown to firing up the laser. My tattoo is on my ribs, so I expect it'll be more unbearable than most, but have no idea what it'll be like...3-2-1...cue the screaming! Yowza, these other reviews are TAME in terms of describing the pain! Christian had described it as hot grease but I don't cook much, and never with anything that has grease splattering...so yes, this was AWFUL. The pass couldn't have been more than 15 seconds max, but it felt like 15 mins. The soft section (under my ribs) was even worse. After the laser was done, it just felt hot; the acute pain stops once it's over. I get iced again, my tattoo now gray and frosty, and wait until it settles for the next pass. The next passes were much easier - I didn't even know Carmen had started until she got down to the soft section again; it hurt less there each time, but I still felt SOMETHING. Carmen was great, btw - I just powered through each pass all at once since I didn't see a point in stopping/taking a break, and she was reassuring/encouraging the whole time, reminding me to breathe (oops) and counting down how much ink she had left. I got slathered in ointment, had an ice pack plastic wrapped to my side, and then left (ALMOST without paying, my GOD what a faux pas). I'm happy to report no blistering in my case; it just looked like a really rough tattoo I'd just gotten done. The redness around the lower part of the tattoo is almost gone (the one square in my ribs/higher is still very red). At this point, the tattoo is raised almost like the icing on a birthday cake, but there's been no extreme discomfort. Ointment and gauze have been great in keeping me comfortable. I'll update with actual results, but I'm content to let the recovery period run longer and let it fade more as time goes by - I'm not in a particular rush to get it removed (also I might have to wait for next year's bonus money to pay for it, ha!) and I want to see how my body clears on its own over the next few months. read more

The shading has lightened considerably, and (omg omg) chunks of the line work have literally DISAPPEARED. Almost all of the lines have broken up already. I absolutely love this place. I've been here a total of 3 times and I've experienced stellar customer service every time! So they have two options: the first is the regular conventional tattoo removal treatment option and the second is the Accelerated Removal Technique aka ART treatment. I'll explain more about the options and differences a little later. The cool thing to remember is that you can mix and match, you don't have to stick to one treatment option throughout your treatment. Flexibility here is the key and I love it. They provide a free consultation where you can ask them any questions you may have. They will also ask questions regarding your tattoo(s), how long have you've had the tattoo(s), where did you get it (professional shop or tattoo party), etc. The questions and being able to view your tattoos in person, will allow them to approximate the cost and length of your treatment based on how many "passes" you will need. "Passes" are the # of times you will have to have laser treatment for your tattoo removal. For my case the magic # is 11 passes. So on to the different treatment options. This will vary depending on the size of your tattoo. Fortunately for me, I have a 2 inch tattoo and so the cost is less than someone with a 6 inch tattoo. The regular treatment option for me is $75 for one pass (one pass per treatment with the regular tattoo removal option). The length of the treatment time will depend on the size of your tattoo, in my case only 10-15 seconds per pass (phew!). Please keep in mind that these few seconds will be EXTREMELY painful. Think of frying bacon and having the oil splatter on your skin x15 in terms of pain level. With the regular treatment option, you will have to wait for 2 months before going back so your skin will have time to heal. This may actually prolong your treatment since you have to factor in the 2 month waiting periods. Now on to the ART treatment. In one visit, you can get 4 passes done!! Woot woot! Think of it in terms of the time you could save with getting the ART! The con to this is that you're going to be in a lot of pain since you're doing it 4x in a row and the cost is high for a one time visit. You can opt to do 2 passes first and another 2 passes at another time if you want though. I believe with the ART, they increase the laser intensity level (you can confirm with them the difference). With the ART you will also have to wait 2 months (however, you will have had more passes completed as compared to the regular). I suggest arriving 30 minutes early, regardless of the treatment option that you choose, to get a numbing cream before your treatment. It takes 30 minutes to have the optimal numbing effect (still hurts but less...). They are great and will walk you through the entire process, you will be more than fine. Just make sure to follow the aftercare instructions. I use Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment (can be found at any drug store) on the treatment site...which has helped with my healing (no blisters, scabbing, etc.!). I still have about 4-5 more passes to go until I complete my treatment. So far, my tattoo is definitely fading (I've had 7 passes so far (1 ART (4 passes), 1 regular (1 pass), 1/2 ART (2 passes). Went for a schedule consultation and talked with Chris, the owner. The place was very clean, modern and had high end decor. Front desk was very pleasant. Chris was very thorough explaining the process and even the technology of the laser and why it is better than traditional lasers. I had been to artisan medspa in Manassas about two years ago and explained to him the laser appointment was very painful and took about 10 minutes of laser, of which I was in tears the whole time. He explained how the newer lasers are more accurate, less painful and have better results. We discussed the ART process and after comparison of single pass or ART technique, I decided to go with ART and he was able to complete the procedure the same time. I appreciate that he was very through, laid back and not pushy. The ART process required 4 passes of laser but they were only about 30 seconds each with a 15-20 minute break in between. The technician was very friendly and made sure I was comfortable at all times, gave me lots of ice, Tylenol and instruction for after care. This was my first experience with tattoo removal. I've never had any other laser treatments, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My free consult was great. I was able to learn so much about the procedure as well as have a solid expectation for what it would take to remove my foot tattoo. I had my first session yesterday. It was about as painful as I anticipated, but nothing I couldn't withstand. It took about 10 minutes but that was because I needed some breaks due to the sensitivity of my foot. The after-care instructions were fully explained and simple to follow. But most importantly, there's already SIGNIFICANT fading after my first session. I'm glad I chose Zapatat. My first time here and my experience was great. It is a very modern, clean and comfortable office to be at. Very lofty/medical/medspa type vibe. The customer service is excellent. They take at least 30 min to and hour to do a consultation with you prior to getting any treatments where they go over the various treatment options and their associates costs. They work to develop a customized treatment plan for your tattoo removal needs which is great. I have been to other tattoo removal places in the past and it pales in comparison in both service and presentation. I also don't know why, but the pain seemed a whole lot less at Zapatat, which is a very good thing. My tattoo artist recommended Zap-a-tat to me rather than doing a very large cover up. I had my initial consultation with Chris several months ago once things started opening up after the initial COVID shutdown. He took pictures of both of my tattoos and also measured them to determine cost. We sat down and he explained the difference between the two treatment types. There is traditional laser and also the more advanced R20 (ART). He also explained that while the traditional laser is cheaper up front, it takes much much longer to go through the removal process. With the lower cost process I would need 11 passes with a month or two needed to heal between passes. With the R20 (ART) removal process I would only need 3 sessions (each session is 4 passes). The wait time between sessions for ART is 3 months. With ART that means both of my tattoos at over 4 inches each would be removed in less than a year, whereas with the cheaper up front cost of the other laser it would take YEARS. When I got home I added up the cost of the 11 cheaper laser passes and then added up the cost of the 3 ART sessions and all in it costs less to do the ART process! Seemed like a no brainer to me. Why spend more money and a helluva lot more time in tattoo removal when with ART it would take less than a year and save me a significant amount of money?! Anyway fast forward to November and it's time to have my first session. I had waited to save up my money for the ART sessions. Carmen my tech met me in the lobby and took me back to the treatment room. She iced up both locations for a solid 15-20 minutes. Chris came in to chat with me briefly and to give me a pep talk. I asked him if it was really gonna hurt and bluntly he said, yes. Which really I knew already based on research I had already done. During the laser process itself, Carmen was so so supportive and talked her way through literally everything so I knew what was going on. I especially liked that she would constantly notify me of where on the tattoo she was and how many more seconds it would be. She's an angel. Each pass on each tattoo took about 15-30 seconds and then we iced up again for another 10 or so minutes. I was all done in less than an hour. After the laser was done I went up front to pay. What I liked most about this part was that there was no pressure to schedule my next appointment and unlike other laser removal places, they did not make me pay for the next treatment up front. The next day I was able to look at them for the first time and I was astounded at how much they had already faded. The fading process happens over time so by the time I have my next appointment I expect them to be even lighter! I am at about a month post first session now and am super pleased so far with the process. Having laser tattoo removal is not without risk and I feel like Chris and his team go above and beyond trying to mitigate those risks. I can't say I'm looking forward to my next session because it's pretty painful, but I'm excited to see how much it faded and I can't WAIT for these tattoos to be gone!! read more

From the moment I walked into Zapatat, I was greeted with warmth and comfort that helped to ease the concern I had around tattoo removal. I spent several hours at the location and while yes, it does hurt a bit, I was as comfortable as possible and was able to practice deep breathing in the relaxing environment which really helped the process. Well after no blistering or scabbing....actually nothing even happened to my tattoo. Don't think the laser did anything or wasn't used correctly. A disappointment in the end. The staff at Zapatat in Arlington are extraordinary! I'm even including my pictures from their treatments (which I think is brave of me to do) so you can see for yourself how good their work is! I've been coming here for over 6 months for treatment of an eyebrow microblading gone wrong & for a 6 treatment package for a Hollywood Laser facial. I could not be happier with both processes. Dani does my treatments & is friendly, professional, caring & a complete delight. The eyebrow process is a little complicated since I had original eyebrow tats done in 2005 & new microblading done 1 year prior to treatment. My removal process is really going well with excellent progress for my problem. Dani is coordinating with the technician that will do my cosmetic tattoo repair. She is extremely detailed, explains the process, manages your expectations & is always concerned about my tolerance/comfort during the treatments. Yes, there is a certain amount of discomfort from the treatment, but Dani always pays full attention to how I'm feeling, provides excellent post-care & instructions. Now: the LASER FACIAL!! OMG! I am 62 years old & get regular facials monthly. I take care of my skin. By adding these laser facials it's taken the texture & appearance of my face to a new level. I've had one treatment at Zapatat, then - like an idiot - thought I'd save some money by purchasing a Groupon to another tattoo removal place nearer to my home. Their service did not even come close to that of Zapatat. I will never, ever go anywhere else but here for the work on my tattoo removal. So I am now sitting in the chair numbing for my 2nd Zapatat treatment (fourth treatment on my tattoo overall). The staff is super professional and friendly; they really make you feel at ease and comfortable. They explain everything to you so that you know what you're getting into, they're super attentive, and they're more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. When I left, they asked if I would need a phone call the next day to see how I was doing, etc. As far as the treatment goes, it's pretty great and effective. They offer numbing cream before the treatment. It's not absolutely necessary but I opt for it because why not. It does help a little bit. The treatment is quick, although while it's happening it feels like it's never ending. The feeling is like rubber bands snapping you over and over. It's annoying, but the price I pay for getting a stupid tattoo on my chest, yanno? They give you a stress ball to squeeze on which does help. The tattoo will look darker within the first few days-week. That's just because the ink is coming to the surface, but it will scab and fall off. I saw results within the first 2 weeks after my treatment, then it gradually got lighter and lighter in the coming weeks. I was very happy and very impressed with this! I was told during my consultation that I would need about 5-6 treatments, so I'm hoping this treatment is enough that I'll be able to stop wearing high-collar shirts/scarves/etc because it's been a long 5 years of doing that and I'm ready to show some cleavage, lol. I have been agonizing over a tattoo on my ankle for over 5 years. When I first looked into removal when I lived in a different state, it seemed it would be difficult to get rid of mine because of the bright green color in it (it's a string of roses on a vine around my whole ankle). Technology has progressed, and I started looking into a place to have it removed around DC after I moved here. Zapatat is still fairly new, so I figured they would have the most updated tools to get rid of this thing. I was right, and the facilities are just as nice as everyone has been saying. I have had 5 sessions so far and am going in for my 6th this weekend. Because of the difficulty of removing this one- both because of the color and location (the ankle doesn't get as much nature blood flow), I have to get 13 sessions in total. I was made aware of this during my consultation and they let me know that if it goes over 13 sessions, the rest are on them- with one caveat- that the green color is not covered in this agreement. While that sucks, I understand why they would have such a restriction, and there's still hope that it will come out anyway! The technicians are also great. I am darker skinned, so there is risk of hypopigmentation, and Zapatat has been very sensitive of this in the way they are following through with the sessions (using different lasers depending on the session, etc.). I feel very comfortable going there and will continue to see through the 13 sessions even though I'm driving from Maryland and I'm sure there are closer places. My tattoo has dulled a lot, and the color is completely gone in some places (even the green!). This is definitely a process you have to be patient with. I feel like I've just come from a trendy, well-designed salon, except I just paid less for a treatment than I did for my last visit to my stylist. Such a pleasant experience, even with the mild unpleasantness of getting zapped. The consultants have all of the proper certifications and were very pleasant. I purchased a Groupon here for 2 sessions. This place is great and very modern. They send you text messages to remind you of your appointments which I love. The business is clean and comfortable. The receptionist/appointment booking staff is very friendly and helpful. My first appointment, I was pressed for time and did not use the numbing cream because I have a high pain tolerance. The treatment was no worse than laser hair removal and slightly less painful than getting the tattoo itself. The 2nd appointment, I decided to get the numbing cream. They sat me for about 20 minutes in a private room in a recliner with drinks provided. Nice! I think the numbing helped but the removal is quick and is not that bad for me (Note: I have a high pain tolerance, I find tattoos about a 5 on a pain scale of 1-10 ). The technicians are very knowledgeable. They explain everything to you and make sure you understand the treatment and after care. They take their time and make sure you are comfortable throughout your stay. I have brown skin so they had me space my treatments out further to ensure I do permanently damage the pigment in my skin. I had a friend say she found somewhere cheaper in DC that was like a hole in the wall and let her do multiple treatments in one day and cheaper. No thank you. I'd rather pay for the comfort and trust. I want to take my time and have my tattoo removed properly without damaging my skin. After 2 treatments, my tattoo actually appears darker due to the ink rising to the surface. I think I have about 5 more treatments. read more
