Very attractive Mexican decor with lots of seating options. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. the menu has some unique item with great taste. And they have salsa and chips (traditional Mexican pinwheels and pork rind-like chips) that were amazing. Portions were large ( the Pollo dish with mushrooms and onions - wonderful) and the tortillas very freshly made and wonderful. We had leftovers that were just as tasty the next day! We walked in and waited quite a while to be seated, which was surprising since there were only two occupied tables and one person sitting at the bar. Once we were finally seated in a booth, water, duros, and salsa arrived fairly quickly. Unfortunately, the salsa was terrible, very thick, lacking flavor, and honestly was off putting. . The menu was a bit unusual and nothing really stood out to me. The prices also seemed on the high side for what was offered. After waiting another extended period of time without anyone acknowledging us or even taking our drink order, we decided to get up and walk out. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. Got seated pretty quickly. Servers were very nice and friendly. We ordered the steak nachos- it was good but very greasy. I had the enchiladas and tamales. The tamales was delish... Enchiladas was ok, wouldn't order it again. all in all, i would come back but try their prime steak. read more

We were really looking forward to this experience after seeing the photos and videos of their famous sizzling stone steak. Unfortunately, what we received was extremely disappointing. We ordered the ribeye steak expecting the quality shown in the Yelp photos, but what arrived looked nothing like it. It was more like a thin, tough T-bone-style cut, honestly closer to something you would expect from a budget grocery store steak than a premium ribeye. We requested medium rare, but the steak arrived well done and lacked the quality, flavor, and presentation we were expecting. The photos online are very misleading because the ribeye shown in those pictures was absolutely not what we were served. From the beginning, the experience felt off. Our waitress was unable to answer basic questions about their alcohol options on tap, which added to our concerns about the overall service and attention to detail. After spending $175, we left extremely disappointed. I would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant if you are coming specifically for the steak. The decoration and ambiance are on point for this Mexican restaurant, the paintings are fun to look out. They don't do chips they do chicharonnes. The tortilla felt, tasted and looked fresh. In my original review, I stated that I planned to return for Happy Hour and I did, so this update should tell you everything you need to know before considering Zapatas. As mentioned, they offer 40% off select appetizers. They also only have 6-8 appetizers on the menu, so selection is limited. It's further limited, because in addition, select means entre style appetizers, so you can get nachos or quesadillas, but you can't get guacamole or shrimp cocktail which also appear as appetizers. Good news is Nachos was what I intended to try, so here is my update. The place was dead, a couple left when we walked in and we appeared to be the only guests. Now, from what I'm heard the purpose of Happy Hour is to attract diners at a time things are slow, but we were concerned that we were the only diners. I had some issues with this trip and considered lowering my initial score, but I'll leave it as is with more feedback for the restaurant to consider. I don't like the menu here and I don't see you attracting a crowd or families with this menu. The food is undeniably good, but many of the dishes and combinations we have come to expect are either missing or have an alternative name we would not pick up on. I also say ground beef is a staple in full service Mexican and I'm disappointed it's not an option here. The nachos were $18, that is too much if you ask me, I don't think an appetizer should be more than $12. The irony in that statement is with the 40% off, they became $11. Also, the portion as nowhere near worth $18. Happy Hour used to be a way to actually get discounted food, but more places now serve a smaller portion of whatever the item is, and I suspect that was the case here as the plate the nachos came on was just bigger than a saucer and not the size of a plate and in most cases when I order nachos they don't come on a plate, THEY COME ON A PLATTER! The plate was square about 6x6 perfect size for one, but historically, nachos are a shared dish. Also, they really skimped on the presentation. It was a salad bowl full of chips with beans and cheese, about 3 tablespoons of sour cream and a single tablespoon of guacamole. The capper was I thought chopped steak would be all over the nachos, but what I got was about 2-3 ounces of strips on top. So for those not into weight about the portion you would expect in a taco was on top. This was not worth $18 and quite honestly, not worth the happy hour price. Most places give you chips for free, not here. Some give you bean dip for free, so in my opinion, the steak and cheese are the only real unique items and you are charging $18 for what would be a $4 taco elsewhere. I like my nachos loaded and could have used some diced tomato, fresh, not pickled jalapeno, queso fresca and maybe even a little cilantro, but these guys kept it vanilla. The service was friendly and although slightly more attentive, it was still lacking. Again, we were the only guest and our server disappeared. She mentioned it was so slow she was hanging out in the kitchen. Short of asking for more salsa, we were covered, she did refill drinks and check in with us, but I didn't like asking for more salsa and was getting ready to look for her when she did check in to refill drinks. Again, I think I need to lower the sore here, but hopefully they read this and make some changes. I'd love to com back, but I'm not sure if we will and I'm not convinced this place is going to last without customers, that they are not attracting. I didn't find value in our meal and despite having good flavor, they cut corners on portion. There is serious potential here, but they are not coming close to living up to it, so on that note, I do have to lower my initial score. read more

Staff was pleasant, and helpful. Restaurant was clean with a nice ambiance. Took a few to be seated, but sometimes people are a lil busy so understandable; wasn't very long really. Fantastic food smells. Drinks came out timely. The food in my opinion was great. Flavorful. This is a grill, so the menu will represent that as well; so some things may be slightly different from what others are used to in regard to options for certain meats. Rice was fluffy and tasty. Beans were super flavorful. Loved that they do not leave out the small things like onions, cilantro and lime like some places. Natural flavors with fresh herbs/ condiments are the best. The meat was so good! So tender, and full of flavor. Chilies sauce was good too & had some spice to it. Would definitely come back, also would love to try more. read more

My mom & I had lunch here a few days ago. I loved the decor. The service was perfect, attentive without being overbearing. The food was absolutely amazing! Mom had the borego, she said it was perfectly cooked and the sauce was very flavorful. I had the camarones in cream sauce, so delicious and rich. Spent 1 vacatiin in Seattle and found Zapatas on Googe and Yelp. Great location, mins from our hotel. We made a reservation, because we were not sure how busy it would be. Got there and there was no big crowd for a thursday evening. Staff and service was great. Food was great and tasty. We had total of 5 guest, with variety of entrees. Everyone was happy, stuffed and full. Will be back the next time we are in Seattle. read more

Extremely attentive and pleasant wait staff and reasonably fast service of authentic Mexican cuisine. Definitely a go back place for us. We've been here a few times now. I was very excited to have a Mexican style steakhouse closer to us. They do not disappoint! I've had a few different cuts of steaks and all have been perfect, don't look for mediocre mex here, there's others nearby. This is a steak house with warm vibes! I've eaten some bad mexican food since I've came to Washington, but today was the worst. The sauce on the chile relleno was thin, I can't describe the taste. The beans were chalky the rice tasteless. My steak quesadilla was a little better but not by much. The steak tasted like it was left over from yesterday. The chips and salsa left a lot to be desired.
