Not a bad spot, the server was super nice and the food was ok. The salsa was too watery though, not enough chunks. Also a Lil too dim in there, though maybe that was just my eyesight. Music was nice. Might try a different dish if I came again.

Café de olla
gus g.

First time here and came in on Sunday. The place was full due to the weekend buffet. The wife ordered cafe de olla that was watered down, no flavor. I ordered a mimosa that was mostly OJ. I didn't take a picture. I had machaca, the flavor was ok but the food wasn't hot. Wife had huevos rancheros which she said they were ok. The service was bad. I had to get up to get my tortillas from the buffet isle. Waitress never came back to check on us after bringing our food. I had to get up to ask for my tab and pay at the counter. Their focus on the weekend was obvious, they focus on their buffet. I'll be trying other places near by. This is definitely not the place for me.

Inside as you walk in. Plenty of open space, and ready for either sitdown or to-go. I recommend to sit down!

There is no lack of Mexican cuisine in Renton. It's just an opportunity to try them ALL! One is Jaguar Mexican Restaurant, located right off of Williams Avenue next to the US Post Office in Downtown Renton. A teeny-tiny bit off the beaten path, but it makes a nice presence nonetheless. It was a Saturday, so there is a small front of the house staff of two, and wonderful crew in the back making your meal. It is pretty much a full menu, but Jaguar is more designed for your casual sit-down experience. Which was just fine with me. Meals also came with complimentary chips and salsa, and your meal came in with ready made sauces for your individual order as well. For me it was Chicken Enchiladas with Mole sauce that comes with of rice and beans! They do have caldos, and tacos of course, but don't miss out on their other classic Mexican offerings as well. See you Downtown, and if you're picking up your mail, come visit Jaguar! #JaguarMexicanRestaurant

Molcajete!
Eric C.

This place is pretty legit. Authentic feel, nice helpful staff. Their molcajete is huge! I've never seen one with mini quesadillas inside before. Decent price for it too. Also tried their oreo milkshake for dessert which was really good. Will come back here in the future. My only complaint is that they don't have beer on draft, but they make a mean michelada!

Cheese Quesadilla

I got the shredded beef enchilada plate with green sauce. The beef was flavorful and moist. The green sauce had a slight kick but was awesome. Beans and rice were also delicious. The quesadilla must've been good since my kid didn't complain and ate most of it. Staff was friendly and attentive. Overall a very good experience and if in Renton again, I would return.

I've been by this place a few times, but have never tried it. A friend really likes it, so today I decided to get lunch there. I went during the lunch hour and placed an order to go, which was a Chimichanga plate. The restaurant is charming and clean - nice atmosphere. The first thing I noticed was that the person taking my order (who was very nice), was also in the back cooking, so I am guessing they were short staffed. My to-go order took 30 minutes and the restaurant was not crowded. I eat Mexican food often, so maybe I'm a tough critic. The chimichanga was overcooked, a little rubbery and the meat was dry - I wondered if it had been heated up in a microwave. The rice was a bit hard so I'm not sure how fresh it actually was. The beans were fine, although not very warm. All in all, I finished the beans but did not eat the rest of my order. I might try them again - maybe it was an off day, but I'm on the fence.

This restaurant is very casual but they have good authentic Mexican food and we always come for our cravings of steak tacos, delicious! They give a complimentary chips with three different kinds salsa with different levels of spiciness! Service is always polite and fast. Will recommend this place.

Quesabirria Tacos
Brian C.

This restaurant serves really delicious quesabirria tacos!! If I was rating them just on this item alone, it would definitely warrant five star consideration. I also ordered asada fries and empanadas (which were recommended by the restaurant employee). The asada fries were tasty, but the disappoinment for me is that it's rare that you run out of fries to pair with the asada and all the other toppings. For $15, they could really provide a bit more fries. This also led to a secondary critique. The carne asada was pretty salty when eaten by itself. I was excited to try the empanadas since it was recommended and the lady said they were really good. I ordered 2 beef and 2 chicken and expected a flavor explosion of tender meat and cheese in a deep fried crust. To my disappointment, it was dry and lacked flavor...I was expecting shredded beef and shredded chicken, but they use ground beef and ground chicken. The pineapple agua fresca was refreshing with bits of fresh pineapple - highly recommend trying it. The horchata was good but had a powdery texture. Overall, the restaurant seems clean and has a very nice Mexican vibe. It seems like the restaurant turns into a karaoke bar late night. I wish they'd provide some chips with each order like most other Mexican restaurants. As others have mentioned if you're looking for great food value, this is probably not the place for you. I'll definitely come back for the quesabirria!

Fajitas Mixtas

Quaint diner feel with lots of televisions along the walls. Clean but could maybe use a refresher. Especially considering the newer places around this area. They have an excellent food hygiene rating which I always appreciate. Unfortunately, all the food was pretty dry, bland and overcooked. I was able to make it work with lots of salsa but everyone at our table was in agreement on this. Service was very friendly and but remember not to wait for the check and pay at the counter. We had some fun with paper straw wrapping wars but I'm not sure we'll make it back here considering that there are some other interesting options in the neighborhood now.

The service was great--everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. The menu is pretty extensive, especially when it comes to tacos, so there are plenty of options to choose from. I tried the asada, carnitas, birria, and adobada tacos. All were decent, with the birria being my favorite. The other meats weren't bad by any means, but they were a bit on the drier side compared to some other taco spots I've been to. The rice and beans were pretty standard--exactly what you'd expect, nothing particularly standout. One thing I really liked, though, was the self-serve salsa bar. It's always a plus being able to customize your flavors. One thing to note is that you do need to bus your own table, but considering the price and portion sizes, it feels fair and worth it. Overall, a solid spot for a casual meal. I'll definitely be exploring more of this area of Renton--there seem to be a ton of authentic Mexican restaurants nearby. We went late at night, so options were a bit limited at the time, but this was a good find.

Some places skimp on the lengua because it's since become and expensive cut but not El kiosko. It's tender and delicious. They've moved their location to a much larger location since then and it's so nice. Well deserved. The parking lot is huge so don't worry about that. When we came in we were told to choose a seat wherever we'd like then promptly served chips and salsa. The salsa was so good. We got to try their taco Tuesday for the first time and the Al pastor was so flavorful and they make the carnitas super crispy. We were also surprised to see they now have a full bar. We ordered a cantarito and although yummy, I didn't think they put the right amount of alcohol for how massive the cup is but that's alright it was good nonetheless:) Salsa bar was nice and full both times we came to the new location and kept clean between uses. The jalapeno toast was the star of the show, great flavors and textures. The ceviche was solid with maybe a little too much tomato for my personal taste. The lechon came in a mountain of pork and rice, if I were to get it again I would probably ask to get the meat on the side since all the sauce/oil dripped down into the rice. In total we spent ~90 for 2 people Ambiance: The restaurant is a really beautiful space, we loved the lighting and decorations Service: Here is where there were a few things took a turn. Service is obviously very subjective, but I felt like our waitress could have been more welcoming and explained more since she did ask us if it was our first time there and we said yes it was. There were 4 sauces that came with our meal and she never explained to us what they were or even what we should be eating them with. She also never checked in on us and when we asked for some boxes and the bill she seemed pretty dismissive. Something more weird for us was when another staff member came with a big camera and light and started taking pictures of us mid meal. After a few minutes she came back with framed photos of us and offered them to us for $20 a picture. When we declined she seemed irritated we didn't want to pay for a service we didn't ask for.

Shortly after, a very kind gentleman brought us waters along with chips and salsa, which was appreciated. The chips were pretty standard Mexican restaurant chips--not my favorite. They tasted slightly greasy, even though they didn't appear to be. The salsa had good flavor but was quite thin. Our waitress greeted us within a reasonable amount of time, took our drink order, and returned with our drinks to take our food order. Since it was our first visit, we tried a few different items. I ordered the steak fajitas, which were flavorful and came with a generous amount of onions and peppers, many with a nice char (which I loved). The steak was tender and well seasoned. I do wish they offered the option to mix multiple proteins. I also ordered a ground beef hard-shell taco on the side, and it was great--the shell didn't taste stale like you often find at many Mexican restaurants. My dining partner enjoyed his meal as well. The only downside was the manager or owner standing near the computer station by the entrance for much of our visit, frequently watching the dining room. Since we were one of the first few tables, it felt a bit uncomfortable at times, even though I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Overall, this has quickly earned a top-two spot for Mexican restaurants in Renton for us. We'll definitely be back.
