I love Zand's kebab wraps and fries. I recently got the Lamb with garlic sauce, and it hit the spot. It's the perfect size. The fries are crispy and smothered in sauce and spices (mostly dill). We were very surprised to see an authentic Persian restaurant in Bryan, but Zand's has been in business here for NINE YEARS - and has developed a loyal and frequent dining clientele, all due to the delicious food and the care with which that food is prepared. We started with an order of hummus for an appetizer, which was served warm with a large fresh pita bread. The hummus was so silky and smooth, perfectly blended - a wonderful start to our meal. I had the Ghormeh Sabzi, a delicious vegetarian stew of mixed herbs and onions or leeks, with red pinto beans, served with rice. The stew is redolent with the various herbs and spices, a very light and filling dish that I was delighted to eat - and will order again when back in Bryan! My husband ordered the Spicy Gyro wrap. Inexpensive & tasty Persian food from a very friendly proprietor. Premises were clean, albeit a bit tired looking. But what arrived on the plate was just fine. I had ground lamb koobideh skewer accompanied by rice, salad, grilled tomatoes, and a glass of lime water. Dessert was a piece of baklava. Total cost was $11.50, so quite cheap given that lamb usually runs a few dollars more expensive than beef or chicken. The koobideh was well spiced & had a bit of snap to go with the richness of the lamb flavor. The accompanying long grain white rice was very plain, not being adorned with the usual Persian saffron coloring or any other spicing. The salad veggies were fresh & the white salad dressing, which looked like & had the thickness of ranch dressing, had a strong garlic flavor. Not necessarily a bad thing in my world. The grilled tomatoes had no particular spicing that I could discern, but were grilled to a tender state. The baklava was not as sweet or rich with honey flavor as is usual. It had more of a straight roasted nutty flavor. Texture was tougher than I've usually experienced, but was not too terribly tough to chew once it had been cut. Loss of a star for not having Persian tea (black tea with bergamot) which is a perequisite at any Persian gathering. On par, Zand's presents decent Persian eats at quite economical prices. read more
