Such a good spot when you're in the mood to grub! My go to is the gyro rice plate and it's honestly big enough to share between two people. The yogurt sauce and the purple seasoning powder pairs perfectly with their gyro and rice. The onion cabbage slaw is so good! You have to mix everything together and just chow down!! I recommend calling ahead and taking the food home as we are in the middle of a pandemic. Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite comfort food in college station. read more

We went here for the first time tonight for dinner and it was really good. I got the beef sandwich and made it spicy. My boyfriend or the beef kabob plate and it looked delicious. The garlic sauce is delicious, and the meet had just enough heat. It was quiet and not busy when we went so that was nice. If you are looking for a low key place, this is it!! The owner was around and came up to our table multiple times to see how we liked it. He was really nice and seemed proud of his food. Our waitress was very helpful and answered our questions about the menu on the things we were unfamiliar about. Had the Lamb Kubideh and Beef Kubideh plates. Really succulent and flavourful kebabs (the lunch special had 2 skewers of kebabs) with rice and a salad. Really great for the price (~$11 per plate). Highly recommended. This review rates the restaurant at 4/5 stars because of 2 reasons. The first reason is that this restaurant is a little hole-in-the-wall joint. So it is a bit shabby, with some of the plates being chipped. Secondly, we opted for the spicier version of the Lamb Kubideh. Unfortunately, it wasn't even remotely spicy. I haven't had many experiences with Persian food, but if you haven't either then this is a great place to start. The selection let's you have a choice of meat kebab and then either on a platter or in a sandwich/taco style. I had the lamb which was amazing and cooked very well. I am still trying to develop a taste for lamb so I expected a very gamey flavor but I barely got a hint of that at all. The lamb was ground and seasoned throughout and served on top of a bed of rice with a side of cabbage slaw. The two pair very well together because the salty meat leaves your mouth dry and is revitalized once you take a bite of the slaw, leaving you ready and prepared to continue scarfing down the kebab. My only gripe is that the slaw was almost too creamy, which begins to become overwhelming near the end. If you're the type of person that likes to finish each part of the dish one at a time, you might find yourself left with extra slaw you're unable to finish. The prices are more than reasonable and the food is unique and tasty. The menu selection is not bizarre to the point where you're faced with unfamiliar flavors, you can stay very well within your comfort zone while still getting a new experience and taste of Persian food. read more

This is the best place to go anywhere in the area for Gyro's. The owner is an awesome man who always is happy to see us and makes sure we are very satisfied with our meal. Took a friend there yesterday when she said she tried the local food truck. I said "Hell NO". You gotta go to Zand's. I bought her a Gyro and now she won't go anywhere without my opinion first. There seems to be a divide going on between Zand's and Shiraz which seems to be based upon how food is served between the two places. So the best advice I can give is try both places multiple times and pick your favorite. For a while now I've gone to Shiraz because it was the only place in town to get a Mediterranean style dish that quick and good. So when Zand's opened up I was eager to give the place a try. Yes technically it is Persian (Iranian) but it has many similarities. Here is the quick list of things I've tried: Chelo Kebab (Beef Kebab Platter - Lunch): This dish is incredible for the price. At $9 you can't really ask for more. During lunch you get 3 kebabs, persian rice and salad greens with taziki sauce as a dressing. The beef is flavorful and tender. They have a custom spice in a shaker. I do not know what it is but it is wonderful on the dish. Lamb Kubideh (Lamb in Pita bread plus veg): This is a nice dish because it comes in a nice package of goodness. You can have it either open so you can doctor it or you can ask them to burrito it. If you asl for burrito it comes wrapped with a paper outside to hold it together. Less messy. The Lamb is very good and tender. Dolma (3 Dolma Appetizer): Dolma is one of those staples that everyone seems to do a little differently. Here at Zand's the dolma is a vegetarian dish without meat. You can have it either chilled or warmed up. It depends on your taste. They were better than average and fresh. Hummus: Ok I don't know what is in their hummus but it is very tasty and I recommend it. Try putting it on your Kudideh as additional filler inside. Great combo. All in all I am a fan of Zand's over Shiraz. I will absolutely keep going back for both lunch and dinner. The owner is a cool guy and when he isn't backed up in the kitchen he comes out and chats with his guests and makes sure they are taken care of. Keep in mind their staff is limited and they have seating for only 16-20 people inside. So during a rush you may have a longer wait. But I can say it's worth the wait. Enjoy! read more

I stumbled on this place on a visit to Chef Cao's which is right next door. Too bad I did not see this place before I ate. Chef Cao's was very disappointing As I was reviewing the menu which is posted on the window, the owner stuck his head out and handed me a menu to take home. He told me about the lunch special which is you get an extra kabob from 11-2pm, so the platters come with 3 kabobs and the kabob plates come with 2. The carnivore in me picked up on this and I made a mental note to come back over the weekend. Well, that began a weekly trek that I make almost every weekend. The Lamb Kubideh is my favorite; wrapped like a gyro. The meat is tender, well seasoned and is complimented by a red cabbage slaw. You have a choice between rice or french fries. That's right, french fries. Be sure to ask for extra garlic sauce and some of Ali's secret hot sauce. To me, it's not really that hot, but adds a new dimension to the awesome flavors in this wrap. It can be a little messy with the juices from everything dripping out as you eat. The trick is let the juices drip onto the rice or fries ( my preference) and then sop up the juice with the fries. You can also dip your fries in the garlic sauce. Do this and you will never look at ketchup again. The chicken is also very good. It is marinated with turmeric and cumin and other spices and grilled to perfection. This is my daughter's fav. If you like fish, the salmon is a must try. I am not sure what the marinade is, but it is delicious. I have to agree with all the other reviews concerning the staff. The are genuine and super friendly. Ali knows the foods of his homeland and brings them to your plate with the biggest smile in Texas. read more

Just had to add my positive review of this place! Super flavorful meat (we got the lamb), the garlic sauce was amazing (kinda "meh" on the chili sauce, personally, but it wasn't bad), lots of rice and a good little side salad, and overall not too bad of a price for all the food we received. We did take out, so I can't speak for the dine-in experience, but the lady at the register was really sweet and the place looked clean and neat, if a little bland on the decor (if you're more worried about ambiance than the taste of the food). Great restaurant! To begin with, the waitress, Marie, was great. She was very kind, as well as knowledgeable on the menu items. I knew we were in for a treat when she said something about walnut and pomegranate soup (fesenjoon), a traditional Persian soup. It was sooooo good! My fiancé ordered the ghorneh sabzi, an herb soup with kidney beans and lime. Also incredibly good, though a slightly acidic and vegetable taste (keep to the fesenjoon if you like a sweeter dish or want to play it safe). Definitely get with the rice for either; it helps make an otherwise thick soup easier to eat. Ali, the owner, made us feel right at home. He even comped us a veggie sampler (a succulent dish served with garlic and hot sauce)! Will definitely come back!!! Know that the harder the food is to pronounce, the more Iranian and potentially very different tasting the food will be. Don't bash Zand's because you don't have a cultural palate! read more

They are one of the few and the proud Middle Eastern (Persian and Lebanese) restaurants in town. The owners are authentic people who made their own restaurant to share their culture's delicious gifts with College Station. I went here to cater for an event on campus, because I had seen the good reviews. Despite the unassuming interior, they sell legit food. Lamb, fish, beef, chicken, vegetable kabobs. Basmati rice, pita bread, hummus, tzatziki, garlic sauce, sumac (the spice in the shaker jars), baklava, dolmah. Everything was very tasty and flavorful. The hummus I didn't really like, and the baklava was too sweet, but everything was well done. They.presented all the food in trays for us. The baklava pieces were huge, and typically sell for $2 a piece. The pita stayed fresh for several days after. The meat was tender, spiced and flavorful, juicy. The vegetables were cooked yet still crispy and had flavor in them as well. The grilling allowed their natural sweetness to come forth as well. This place is a hidden gem that more people need to go try! Just went for the first time and got the chello beef and chello lamb platter. I wish I had pictures to show, but I devoured everything before I got to. Everything was super tasty and I especially liked the salad/slaw that came with it-- added a nice refreshing tangy note to the dish. To top off this meal, I caved and got their baklava which was so gooey and perfectly sweet/nutty mmmm. It really hit the spot and would recommend it as it's also only $2.50 for a satisfying slice. They have great lunch specials from 11:00-2:00. Prices run around $10 with tip for lunch. The owner, Ali, came and greeted us as soon as we walked in. He had the warmth and kindness of a hard working man that is passionate about his food. There were several in our group that had never had Persian food before. When he heard this, Ali went into the kitchen and brought us a ton of samples! The food was fantastic and tasted like something a Persian mother would make.
