Came here for the first time with my family. We ordered the garlic chicken dinner special which comes with rice and the Combination Noodle Soup which was packed with meats and noodle. The broth was surprisingly delicious. For ala carte, we ordered, Mongolian Beef, Black Bean Chicken, Pud-Kee-Mow, and Egg Rolls. They were all very flavorful and delicious. There are so many different options on their menu, so we'll have to return to try different dishes. The staff are fast and friendly. There were a lot of tables and chairs to dine at. As we entered, we were the only ones and the place just looked like the business was closing down. Instantly at first, my family and I were kind of skeptical about it being good. Looking empty made us think no one comes here, but people started to trickle in and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back. When checking in on YELP, there's a 15% discount, BUT this restaurant doesn't recognize nor honor it so don't be surprised. read more

We have eaten here multiple times when visiting College Station area. Portions and price good. The food is very good and the staff is nice. I would just recommend being a little bit cleaner. The tops of the booth ledges are covered in dust having never been wiped down. There are boxes all over the place in the dining room against the wall. The surfaces and bathroom surfaces feel dirty/sticky. read more

Not bad pricing and generous portions. They gave us plenty of sweet sauce and soy sauce for free. Sricacha is like $50 each. For take out Chinese it was pretty good. I can't tell you how phenomenal their food is talk about fresh off the stovetop made to order, chicken is crispy as well as veggies having that crunch and not soggy as per usual at any other restaurant! They don't have any of these in my hometown, but if Bryan is your hometown, then you're in luck! By national standards the Chinese food here is bad, and far from the American Chinese standard that I expect, and also it has nothing on real Chinese food of course. However, by Bryan or College Station standards, it's not bad at all, and I appreciate the large portion sizes. In fact some of the dishes are pretty good. My fave is the General Tso's. read more

A small town oddity. Bryan College Station has enough East Asian students and enough cosmopolitan eaters to support some level of exotic Chinese food. Bryan College Station diners are still American enough and straight laced enough to not want to go too wacky wacky. A small restaurant in a not-great location on Texas Avenue in Bryan can not afford to hold too much perishable inventory. Hometown Chinese has an elegant solution to this problem. Have a small set of dishes for any Asian food market niche you can think of. Everyone gets what they want, and the restaurant does not get stuck with too many unsold groceries. Were you born in Shanghai and miss real Chinese food? There is a small menu of 10 or 12 items. These include some hot hot Szechuan items, a straight up vegetable dish, a tripe dish, an intestine dish, and one dish garnished with Chinese pork belly. Want American Chinese? They have a small list of all the old American standards. They sell twice as much American Chinese as other stuff, so they have 2 times (10 to 12) dishes on the menu. Want Thai? They have 10 to 12 dishes of American Thai dishes. Want bubble tea? Guess how many flavors they have. And so it goes. * * * Execution is totally credible. I went for their intestines and pepper dish with lo mein on the side. There were lots of different peppers at all levels of heat to keep the dish interesting. The lo mein was superior and the intestines themselves were just fine. If I lived in BCS, I would get pretty bored eating the same thing all the time at Hometown. I am always on the look out for good Lo Mein and Shrimp Fried Rice. This new restaurant in Bryan, Texas opened up a couple of weeks ago and I thought I would do a take out. My family and I ordered the Lo Mein, Shrimp Fried Rice, egg rolls, Won Ton Soup and Sweet and Sour Chicken. First let me start with the good which were the egg rolls, Won Ton Soup, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. While the egg rolls possessed a sweeter taste that I was not normally accustomed to, they were ok. The Won Ton Soup was very good. The Lo Mein was the worst I have ever had. This dish was nothing like I am used to. It had no taste. It was just oily yellowish noodles with some vegetables thrown in. It has a long way to go. But as a staple, this should have been much much better. Don't the cooks that make it ever taste it? The Shrimp Fried Rice was marginally acceptable only because this had the biggest shrimp I have eaten with fried rice. The rice was not sticky but there again fell a little short on flavor. As far a service, the food was ready for pick up at the appointed time and was hot. The cashier was very courteous. Now to speak to the value...it was not worth the price I paid which was almost $20 more than my usual take out for the same items. read more

First time trying and I ordered delivery. Yellow shrimp curry and I pressed the button for white rice but it must have slipped off the order. The yellow curry sauce was flavorful but very spicey and after 15 minutes I had horrible acid indigestion. The shrimp were large ( yaay) but overcooked boo and the menu said it had carrots and potatoes in it. I saw this grey rectangular lump so I tasted it. Menu is similar to Chef Cao's, but Hometown has a separate Thai section. We usually order Mongolian beef, mushroom chicken, and honey walnut shrimp, and they tasted almost as good as chef Cao's. Mushroom chicken had a few more vegetables than I would like so even taking them all out it was still a lot of food. Enough for lunch the next day.
