Our group of 6 had the perfect time at Zamindar's! We absolutely loved everything -- the food, the presentation, the cocktails, the decor, the service... truly, everything! At the hostess stand there's a towering wall of Indian PO boxes. When I asked about them, we were told they were designed to evoke the feeling of home and India, which I thought was such a unique touch. Throughout the restaurant, there are beautiful, eye-catching paintings and elephant decor. The food presentation was some of the best I've seen in ages! So much of the meal comes out as a full experience -- with dishes being lit on fire right in front of you or finishing sauces being poured tableside. The presentation is visually breathtaking and really makes the meal feel like an event. The cocktails are just as spectacular! I ordered the Raja Benares, essentially an Old Fashioned with Indian flavors, and it arrived in a box that released smoke when you opened it. Even our check came at the end of the meal in a smoke-filled box! They definitely know how to make an impression. ...Chef Vamshi Ali also made the rounds to speak with the tables and stopped by ours. We had a wonderful conversation with him about his other restaurant in Queens, and he was kind enough to pose for a picture with all of us. It was such a nice personal touch and made the evening even more memorable. The only slight thing I would say could have been better was the wait. We had a reservation but still waited about 20 minutes before being seated. Because of that, we ended up going over the two-hour parking garage limit. The restaurant validation covers two hours, but we were charged the full $10 when we left. We weren't sure whether our ticket was incorrectly validated at the restaurant or whether going over the two-hour limit means you have to pay the full amount. Either way, $10 isn't a big deal, but it was something we were a little unsure about. Yes, it was expensive -- but everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was delicious, making it expensive but absolutely worth it! From the food and cocktails to the incredible presentation, beautiful decor, and wonderful service, Zamindar's gave us a dining experience that I woke up still thinking about. 5 stars for food and presentation of the apps! But they seriously need to work on the presentation of the drinks and desserts. I ordered the Rajbari cocktail - Rum, Jamun Cordial, Rose, Clarified Coconut Milk. Now just imagine what it would look like and then check the actual drink photo. The Rajbari looked so good on paper and they could have done so much with it - the possibilities are endless but they failed terribly with the execution. When the bartender served me the drink she didn't even inform that its my drink so for almost 5 minutes I thought it was just water and ignored it. I only later saw the gold foil and realized it is the cocktail I ordered. It is the most outrageous looking drink I have had in a fine dining restaurant. Just a big ball of ice in a stupid glass topped with some gold foil? If you want to be be basic atleast serve it in a coupe? Couldn't have added some rose petals on top? That glass itself was so hideous that I wouldn't take it even if someone gave it to me for free. The Gulab Jamun Creme Brulee was delicious sure, but it was extremely basic to look at and the plate that it came on was so weird looking. Maybe add some berries, edible flowers or a small gulab jamun with a gold foil on top for aesthetics? Now to the food: they nailed the appetizers' presentation on the other hand and the taste matched the aesthetics to the T. The Lamb Kachori Kulcha was so soft and the filling was bursting with Indian flavors and fragrant aromatic spices. The Bongulo Paneer Kebab had layers or paneer, coconut and capsicum poriyal cooked in Bamboo which worked so harmoniously together. It was a flavor explosion right from the first bite. Would definitely suggest alternating the paneer and poriyal instead of having a big chunk of paneer on top and the poriyal all the way at the bottom of the bamboo because it was difficult to dig in and take the entire thing in one spoonful. Was in Charlotte on a business trip and decided to check this place out for dinner. Busy restaurant with a good vibe. Unfortunately a table was unavailable so I took a seat at the bar. To my dissapointment they only serve appetizers at the bar. I did want to order some real dinner, but have to settle for a plate of wings. The wings came out, presented very nicely. I love this place already! They've done an amazing job with the decor inside (used to be Link and Pin). The food is amazing! I have made a reservation once a week for the past two weeks. The top choices I recommend are the SHORSHE SEA BASS PATURI, KASAULI LEMON CHICKEN, OLD DELHI BUTTER CHICKEN, and LAMB SHANK VINDALOO for the lamb lovers out there. Kelvin was our server for the night and he was awesome! Highly recommend trying them out!! They are also getting a lounge space in a couple weeks that will stay open until 2am. I visited Zamindar's for a birthday dinner. First, the decor and ambiance are positively gorgeous. Even the bar area is plush and beautiful. The staff is attentive and helpful from start to finish. With this being a first visit, I was eager to try multiple items. They have an assortment of flavored naan that you can choose from and we were not disappointed. I also tried a mocktail that was quite delicious. For the meal we had one smaller sharable dish (the chicken was flambeed table side) and a large dish (leg of lamb) to get a feel for the portions. This turned out to be perfect for the two of us and the pictures probably don't do it justice. Just know that the presentation was only eclipsed by the flavor. My goodness, that was a delicious meal. Notes: parking is validated and reservations are recommended! There doesn't appear to be a dress code, but wear something nice because you're going to want to take pictures. read more

Loved loved loved Zamindar's! There were 6 of us, we ordered about 10 items and everything was beautiful and fantastic! Our friendly waiter was able to guide us through the menu and answer all questions. Service was smooth and prompt, no hiccups which was surprising since they are fairly new. After dinner we happened to see the chef walking around and we got to meet him. Finally got to eat at Zamindar's! And the wait was worth it. First the ambiance was gorgeous. The place was so much bigger with so many smaller areas to eat and hang out with a delicious drink. The decor and paintings are very sophisticated and beautiful Second The food was fantastic. So many different flavors and textures, everything was beautifully presented. Unfortunately, that night there was a power out due to the storms so the vibe was a little off with no music. But that didn't break our stride. The service was good, but our waiter was not the friendliest, " no bedside manner". Everything From, the service and kindness from the staff, including the owner coming by to personally introduce himself to every table, and the gorgeous interior. Step into a fine dining cultural experience at Zamindar's in South End. The interior is as beautifully crafted as the plates. The wait staff are rotating and you can ask anyone for anything you may need. They bring dishes out to your table and finish the presentation directly in front of you for photo and video worthy content. Most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious. Their chef is a Michelin recognized chef. While parking in South End is tough, there's a parking garage steps away that they validate as well as the New Bern Lightrail stop. Incredible experience from start to finish. We accidentally booked our reservation for 6 guests and needed accommodations for 8. The manager (did not catch his name but he was amazing) was extremely helpful and actively worked on finding space for us while we enjoyed drinks at the bar. Our server, Anthony, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and gave recommendations as we were first timers and were unsure what to order. Everything was absolutely delicious. New upscale, high energy Zamindar's Club House brings a new level of sophistication and excellence to Charlotte's Indian cuisine. In the space formerly occupied by Link and Pin in Southend the food is excellent, the cocktails inventive and the service friendly and welcoming. We arrived without reservations on Sunday night and learned they're booked up for two weeks but were offered to dine at the bar. This ended up being a great experience with very attentive and friendly staff and comfortable stools. The presentation across the board was great. From the leather embossed menus to the flambé chicken skewers to the bubble turned poof of smoke on a cocktail, a lot of thought went into the experience here. The only bad thing was that the tables are very close to each other so it feels awkward having to listen to the tables next to us. When you walk into Zamindar's, you're immediately greeted by the lively but soothing sounds of Indian music and lively conversation amidst restaurant-goers that transports you to a cool evening in Kolkata. The hostess greeted us with a smile, congratulated us on our anniversary, and gave us a selection between table and chairs or a booth-half table. We made our selection and met our server. Steve was our server who accompanied us on a journey of Indian whimsy and culinary delight. He was so friendly and gave us great recommendations throughout our ordering process. We both agreed that we would come back just for Steve's hospitality. We got Chukander Cheese Kulcha and Bangla Kodi as starters. Slightly spicy and rich in flavor, they were a great start to the meal. The yogurt sauce was a perfect pairing for the chicken. I got a Calicut Mango Lobster Curry for my main and my date got the Old Delhi Butter Chicken. Accompanied with our meals, my date got the Raja Benares and was immediately hooked on the unique flavor it provided. He ordered 3 throughout dinner, even though Steve was insistent that if he didn't like it, it was okay to send back. I tried it and was immediately impressed by the depth of flavor and uniqueness. Lively, busy vibe throughout the restaurant with fun music playing - but not overly loud. Our service and waiter were great. My only slight would be their wine and cocktails. We ordered cocktails...and exchanged them for wine. Not sure what the miss was but all three drinks were definitely off. Our server took care of it though and we replaced it with a bottle of wine. I want to come back simply to try more items on the menu. I ordered the Bombay cocktail which came with an experience that made the drink both delicious and fun. The atmosphere was classy and upscale with personalized menus, plates and drink menu with the restaurant name. It felt like an upscale dining experience without the upscale pricing. The cost of each item was very reasonable especially for the quality. Service was spectacular. We arrived right at opening without a reservation and even though they were sold out, they made space for us. I greatly appreciated the hospitality. The food is so good. I really recommend trying ample appetizers. There are so many I've tried worth mentioning but this would be too long of a review. The Sharabi Chicken Tikka are good and the Lamb Chops. Very juicy chicken and lamb chops are very tender with great flavor. For entrees the Nalli Ghost Mandi is a great one and I also love the Lemon Chicken. I highly recommend going more than once just to try everything on the menu. Really disappointed and was hesitant to leave this review because the food was delicious, but now after a 2nd bad service interaction at this restaurant I feel it's necessary. First time I came here the staff were not helpful. My friends and I asked for dish recommendations and the waiter simply pointed out what sections were appetizers, chicken, fish, etc. This was not helpful as we could obviously read the menu. I also ordered a vodka soda and they brought me a shot of vodka in a glass (no ice) and a sidecar of club soda... very strange. Second time, I called ahead to see if there were seats available at the bar for me to walk in and eat at. They told me there were 2 available and we came in within 15 minutes. When we walked in, we saw an empty bar and proceeded to walk over and were chased down by the hostesses who told us we were not allowed to sit there. They kept insisting it was "first come first serve" and that there was a 50 party group that spontaneously walked in. I would have appreciated them saving me the time and telling me that over the phone. I just wish the level of service here matched the quality of food. read more

We planned a team dinner here and made a reservation for eight people. Overall, the food definitely lived up to the hype. Had nice ambience. Our server spent a lot of time explaining the menu, cocktails, and wine selection. Based on his recommendation, we tried the Sula wine from India, which was just okay, but the cocktails were excellent. For appetizers, we ordered several dishes to share, and the mussels and chicken wings were the standouts for me. For the main course, we sampled a variety of dishes, and the lamb shank biryani and butter chicken were absolutely fantastic. We also ended the meal with a few desserts, which were all very good. The food was consistently delicious and well prepared, so the kitchen absolutely delivered. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. While our server was knowledgeable, he repeatedly spent an excessive amount of time going over the menu, which ate into our dining time. To make matters worse, we weren't informed until about 30 minutes into our meal that our reservation was limited to 1 hour and 45 minutes. After that, the server kept returning to give us frequent countdowns on how much time we had left--even before we had a chance to finish ordering everything we wanted. It made the entire experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. I don't regret choosing this restaurant because I wanted to try a place with so much buzz, and the food certainly didn't disappoint. However, the way the service was handled significantly took away from the experience. I probably wouldn't return, as I think the front-of-house staff could benefit from better customer service training and a more thoughtful approach to managing reservation time limits. read more

It took us 4 tries to get a Diet Coke one of us ordered and flag the waiter multiple times to order our entree. We had to escalate to one of the managers who was nice to come take our order. The Calicut Mango Lobster Curry was easily one of my favorite entrees. I originally tried to order the Nalli Gosht Mandi since it came highly recommended, but they were out for the night. I ended up getting the Hyderabadi Chicken instead, which was incredibly flavorful and had just the right amount of heat.
