We were very excited to go to a Persian restaurant we had never been to before- Zamaan Persian-Mediterranean Grill 865 W Eisenhower Pkwy, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. The name says Persian, the website lists Persian dishes, the pictures in the window show Persian food, and they were playing Persian music. Much to our surprise the menu we were presented with had NO PERSIAN food on it. It was only the typical Lebanese type middle eastern food found at most middle eastern restaurants. While the food and service were good, it was misleading and disappointing not to find Persian food.

    Shish Combo and Greek Salad

I ordered shish combo plate with salad. The meat was so juicy and soft and delicious. The rice was superb. The salad was pretty and delicious. I definitely recommend this cafe to anyone who loves Iranian foods!!!!!!!! They also have Persian ice cream ( bastani sonati ) And carrot juice with ice cream and khoreshte bamieh , sabzi polo and zereshk polo.

I've done takeout here before but last week was my first time dining in and it was a great experience. It's casual dining at its finest with comfortable booths and a welcoming staff. I'm a bit of a creature of habit these days and tend to go with a tawook plate whenever I'm out at a Middle Eastern restaurant and Zamaan makes a great one. Perfectly charred chicken, delicious toum (garlic sauce), and the rice is lightly spiced and herbed. And the hummus appetizer is creamy and heavy on the tahini, which I like. I like to take my plate and basically make mini sandwiches of all the goodness. Take some pita, add some rice, chicken, garlic sauce, veggies and a touch of hummus. My friend pointed out that they have a sandwich on the menu that is basically that (the Riz Bi Dajaj) which intrigued me for the future. But for now, I like to build my own. Prices are great and service is speedy. It's location in a strip mall on Eisenhower also makes it easy to park. One of my favorite Middle Eastern options in Ann Arbor, hands down.

This haunt is just a stone's throw from my place. The food is fab. We loved the lentil soup, baba ghannoush, tabbouleh, fattoush, chicken shawarma, baladi , lemon drink and the karnabeet was spectacular! This is perhaps the biggest sleeper on the menu!

This is a very good spot for Middle Eastern fare in the southern Ann Arbor commercial area on Eisenhower near AA-Saline Rd. Located in the aging Colonnade Strip Plaza, this diminutive restaurant with its simple but comfortable decor provides a pleasant atmosphere for a nice meal. We have eaten here two or three times now and have found the service to be fairly accommodating. On this Friday evening, we had originally planned to eat in one of the restaurants in the new plaza on Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. in front of Meijer, but the crowds there were still horrendous at 8 PM. A quick check of Yelp highlighted several spots nearby. This place stood out based on our mood and it turned out to be much more sedate. There were four or five other parties there when we walked in and it was no problem to find a seat. We started with a Baladi Hummus appetizer, which was topped with feta, tomatoes, onions and cilantro and included pita for dipping. For mains, we tried the Shish Kabob pita accompanied by fries and the Shish Tawook dinner with rice. Both were quite good. The fries were particularly tasty as they were medium cut and well done. With tax and tip (we had water to drink), our final cost was $33. At $16.50 per person, this was a reasonable deal. This was especially true considering the fact that we brought home enough leftovers for another meal. Overall, we were once again pleased to try this establishment. We will be happy to patronize this place again when another opportunity arises.

I don't know how I had never heard of this place before, but this place was easily one of the best mediterranean restaurants i've been to in A2. I'd say it's dishes rivals the best of haifa falafel, and their dishes are all consistently fantastic. We got the karnabeet, baladi, meat shwarma wrap, grape leaves, and mujaddara wrap. While all were superb, I was particularly impressed by the karnabeet. The sauteed cauliflower reminded me vaguely of the charred taste of kale chips, but infinitely better - and this is coming from someone who typically isn't a fan of veggies. Prices were fair, but not a steal. All this place needs now is to move itself closer to downtown. Would come again.

Shoutout to my friend and fellow foodie Tiffany for always being down to try a new spot together!…read moreWe did a double date at El Harissa recently and it's my favorite kind of spot - welcoming and warm, with delicious food, and kind, patient employees. The cafe is a few tables inside of the market/deli, with a lot of takeout happening but I love that they offer dining in as they heat everything up for you and it's all presented very nicely. We ordered a ton of things: harissa dip, hummus, pita, spice roasted cauliflower, tabbouleh, lasagne verde, chicken tagine, and gelato. I loved that the menu indicates which menu items have a smaller carbon footprint - and we happened to be dining there on Earth Day! The food was all flavorful and the perfect temperature, which I appreciated. My favorites were the harissa dip, tabbouleh, and the lasagne verde. The chicken tagine was very good, and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. The spice roasted cauliflower left us wanting it to be a bit more crispy, but it was a nice side. The gelato is delicious - it's made by Palazzolo's but El Harissa provides them with the unique ingredients for their specialty flavors. They were out of some but we got to sample several. We ended up with the roasted pistachio gelato and the apricot peach cardamom. The texture of the gelato was perfectly creamy and the flavors were strong. The market has lots of great items to buy: chips, tunisian olive wood pieces, spices, etc. I'm so glad we sought out this spot and can't wait to get more of their food!

Had the: *Spice Roasted Cauliflower (Crispy cauliflower florets coated and baked in rice and chickpea flour and our North African spice blend. I also like the harissa dip it came with! *Small Merguez Meatballs (Inspired by the Maghrebi sausage, our spiced lamb and beef meatballs are hand-rolled with onions and herbs and coated with a thick tomato sauce. Served with saffron rice or couscous - small portion came with 3 for $10): For meatballs that included lamb - it wasn't gamey at all and very tasty! I picked cous cous for my side. *Chicken Chermoula (Brined, seared, then baked to capture all of its flavor, our crowd-favorite chicken is juicy and delicious. Served over rice with our herby, garlicky, lemony Chermoula Sauce - Double Portion - $18): Our main entree to share. The lemony chermoula sauce was delish. Chicken was perfectly cooked - not dry at all! Mujadara Rice (A Levantine staple of spiced green lentils and rice. Ours is adorned with carefully caramelized golden onions for a touch of savory-sweetness - small for $8) - SO tasty! I could eat this on its own. Maghrebi Chili (Smoky and spicy. Ground beef seasoned with Harissa spices and slowly cooked with chickpeas, lentils, black beans, peppers, and loads of vegetables - Small/Pint - $9.50) - FIBER CITY! Flavors were really good! We also had SO much gelato - they basically let us sample all of them. ended up with the pistachio and tiramisu. I'll be back - especially for a salad with their wonderful chicken - seems like a great healthy option!

We stood in the lobby for some time before three other groups showed up: a white couple, a white woman with her toddler, and a white couple with a baby. When she returned, she motioned to the white woman and toddler, and proceeded to seat them. When she returned, she told the white couple with the baby to follow her. I said, "actually, we were ahead of them, " which she ignored. Her behavior was so offensive that even the white couple volunteered, "she was ahead of us." Reluctantly, she told all of us to follow. She seated all of us at our tables. I asked if they had crayons or paper for kids. She rolled her eyes and pretended not to understand English. Note that she addressed us in English in the lobby. I'll think twice about going back. Without a doubt, the food is amazing. But I don't want to subject my kid to that kind of abuse.
