This was the first time I've had Yemeni food. My partner ordered zurbain, one of the most beautifully spiced rice dishes I've ever had, full of chunks of moist, juicy lamb. I had the lamb agda, a sort of stew with pieces of braised lamb on the bone with vegetables in a delicious rich sauce. Ther was not a single dry or overcooked piece of meat in either dish and there was so much that it could have fed four easily. Instead, we took the leftovers home and had another delicious dinner tonight. There was a spicy fresh tomato sauce that came with the zurbain, and it mixed really well with the rice and meat. The lamb agda comes with either rice or bread; I chose rice which was excellent but in future visits if there's another dish with rice I'd choose the bread. We also had slightly sweet Adeni tea, a perfect accompaniment. I can't understand other reviews that complained about cheanliness and sanitation - Shibam City was not fancy but it was spic-and-span clean and tidy when we ate there. We will be back! read more

But this restaurant is different, I'm visiting Chicago in our Islamic holy month (Ramadan) and I found this beautiful restaurant and beautiful active employers Maryam, Ahlam and Islam. Ordering via grubhub, I provided instructions concerning a food allergy to soy bean products. Normally, grubhub-delivering restaurants provide a receipt and/or verbal confirmation that the instructions have been received and understood, or a phone call if they cannot be accommodated. This was not the case in this instance. After delivery of the food without these affirmations, I called the restaurant directly to inquire. The individual I spoke with hung up on me. I tried calling again, thinking perhaps we got disconnected, but no luck. So I called grubhub customer service. They called to inquire, and the restaurant staff couldn't tell them anything about whether or not they accommodated my allergy, and then hung up on them as well. Best food I have had in Chicago; hands down. I heard about this from a friend a week ago and went with the whole family to give it a try. Was not disappointed at all. We asked the workers for a suggestion and ended up ordering the mandi lamb, lamb mutabaq and grilled chicken cubes with rice. Each and every dish was amazing. I have not had the food yet, but I hear it is very good and very reasonably priced. I had the pleasure of visiting a few evenings ago with some brothers I had just met. I don't really care for milk in my tea, so they treated me to a very delicious red tea, and an excellent mint tea. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. I have frequented this place multiple times in the past and we have always enjoyed it. We visited last week and were horrified. I suppose the management has changed. The food quality has taken an extreme nosedive and the cleanliness, which wasn't that great to begin with, has gotten even worse. It was almost impossible to get through our meal. On top of that, our food came all jumbled. Our entree was brought out to us before the appetizer and the server just was like "oops". They need to hire more than two servers if they are going to charge 18% gratuity, who never check up on you throughout the meal after delivering your food. Poor service, poor food. Lamb mandi, chicken mutabak, and chicken kabsa was ordered when we went here. Didn't care for the kabsa much as the chicken was dry inside. Kabsa rice was average. Lamb mandi was great! Lamb was juicy and the rice was cooked to perfection. The mutabak was a hit! Loved it! read more

We live in the suburbs and heard great reviews about this place. So we took the train out to try it. The food was great and cooked to perfection. The one star off was for the service. Although nice was slow and seemed a bit confused. Almost like they could only handle one thing at a time. When it got more busy, we were practically forgotten.
