I've been coming to this place for nearly 10 years. The decor has had some issues, but has recently been updated -- also hygiene has also improved overall. Make note that this is not a full-fledged restaurant-- so nothing fancy, leave that out of the equation. However, food is fantastic, tasty, fresh and authentic. I love the gyros, and the many other dishes as well. The naan and veggie samosas are exquisite. Too many other eateries like this have been "Americanized", with short-cuts and poorly prepared knockoffs -- but this one serves real dishes from Middle East cuisine menu. Service is good, but then they are usually very busy! The head cashier knows me by sight, and my stomach knows what it likes -- and I recommend you visit! read more

So I used to live in West Alex and this was my favorite kabob place, hands down. My go-to was the boneless chicken kabob with extra chickpeas. Yum. Moved to Falls Church and barely get to Z Kabob anymore. Had a chance to go today and was excited when I arrived; new menu, they upgraded the register area and it appears as if there was new staff. Sorely disappointed once I tried the food. Don't get me wrong, the chicken was delicious and moist. The naan was thick and tasteless. My favorite chickpeas were now very greasy and flavorless. I unfortunately ordered an extra side of chickpeas which cost me $4.99 that I'm not sure I'm even going to eat. The customer service was friendly but food quality and taste have changed. Came here for a quick lunch on a Saturday while shopping. I didn't see the Yelp reviews and I'm glad I didn't because it would have most definitely deterred me away from the place. Boyfriend and I thought the place would be a middle eastern spot based on the way it was decorated from the outside as well as the inside. But when we got in it was more so just a halal south Asian restaurant that just happened to also serve our favorite chicken over rice dish. The restaurant offered the usual curries and biriyanis as well as lassis and chai. So we got the chicken over rice (me) and the combo over rice (him) and a side of desi spiced chai. The chicken/combo over rice tasted like a fusion of Indian and traditional halal street cart style food. The chicken was clearly tandoori chicken chopped up into bite sized pieces. The rice was so well seasoned. Overall, yummy and quite filling. We both couldn't finish our food so got a doggy bag to take home. Our total came out close to $35 which was a little bit more than what we would have wanted to pay for lunch but the food was delicious and well worth it. We might stop by again after we have tried all the neighboring restaurants. read more

If you're looking for ambiance, this strip mall restaurant isn't going to do it. However, this hidden gem is a great spot for yummy kabobs of all sorts. The worst restaurant ever. I went there with my family and ordered 2 meals. The first meal was ok but the 2nd was really old chicken and my wife was not able to eat it. We tried to replace the meal with another one but the owner got really nasty with us. He started yelling and say the food is good and he would not return or replace the meal. I stopped coming here 6 months ago, but today, I wanted to give them a try again today. Chickpeas bowls were down sized, the plates were changed to smaller ones. I didn't get any salad which is included in the lunch, once I asked for it, I got a cup that's half ice and half lettuce. I'm not a fan of Ravi's, but I am a fan of Z Kabob! The guy who works there is nice, but a little quiet - he recognizes us because my husband and I frequent this place tons. We always get the lamb chops meal (those lamb chops are seasoned so well - kind of salty, very flavorful, char-grilled to perfection (about a medium), and sooo juicy. They don't even have a 'game-y' or a 'lamb-y' flavor, which I like. I love their Butter Chicken - the sauce is amazing, and I dip the bread in it; not too tomato-y, more creamier with cream, and has a good smokey flavor to it. Their chickpeas? I think this place has the best ones. It is always perfectly cooked, and whatever seasonings they use is just out of this world. I can just eat that with the rice all day long. Try this place out - it's a little hole-in-the-wall, and the prices are comparable to any other kabob places. I love z kabob. The lentils are incredible, I would pay for the recipe. Butter chicken is great but not the best. All curries are good. The bread is a winner here. Samosas are very good. Spinach and potatoes are good. Sometimes a little salty. Over all I dine here 2-3 times a month. Guess ownership changed. Everything changed... portion is smaller. Quality is less. Lentils suck now. The kabobs, gyros, and spinach are all very good. They are usually friendly but can be a bit rough sometimes and the wait can take a while, so don't come if you're in a hurry. Really no decor or ambiance, just a deli type feel to it. I went from a 4 to a 3 because I have come here two different times well before their closing time (25 mins. one time) and was turned away. One time they said I could only get the options up front and the other time they said they had closed the kitchen. Change your hours or else serve folks up until you close. read more

The bathroom was disgusting, dirty. look like they haven't clean it in weeks. The toilet is detached from the floor, not steady at all. You can't even sit on it. I understand COVID hit restaurants hard and they are straggling but with expensive food at least clean/repair bathroom. I hope you clean your kitchen too. This place was empty at 7:20pm. Z Kabob makes a tasty lamb kabob. The lamb was tender and marinated, so it had lots of flavor. Rice was good and chickpeas were spicy, which is appreciated. Naan and salad were the least exciting parts of the meal. I love naan so that was a little sad. I also had a samosa, and it's actually one of the better ones I've had. It is flavorful and crisp. Conveniently located in falls church village, this place has the standard kabob menu like other pakistani curry in a hurry places in the area. The combos come with curry or kabab and a side, rice and naan (bread). The food is above average, prices are fair, the TV has CNN and they do not know how to spell samosa, they call it sambusa which leads me to believe they are from the area near the afghanistan border. Also notable is a picture of the Taj Mahal, the ultimate monument of love between a man and a woman (which is in india of course) and the menu which refers to indian spiced tea 'chai' as pakistani/ kashmiri tea which seems like a good way to convey a political message, but no matter what dishes get renamed, the kashmir region will always remain a part of india. Needless to say, i did not order the tea. general note: all these kabob places are stingy with the yogurt sauce which they don' t seem to get is that this sauce should be liberaly doled out, it costs .00001 cent to make a serving and .02 cents for the container read more

This used to be Rawal Kabob, no idea why the name changed. For quick eats, its perfect. Kabobs, gyros, etc. The meat is good. And whe the meat is good, I am happy. Today's choice was their version of a gyro, tandoori chicken gyro! It's quite large so go with an empty belly like I did. And in the tradition of simple Indian/Pakistani food places they had a water cooler and stacks of cups on the side.
