Moved here recently and thought I'd just try a place. Scheduled to get my hair cut by Mikayla, but…read moreit was cut by Ava instead. Coming here was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE MISTAKE! Asked for basic easy-to-manage trim with long layers. My hair looks WAYYY worse after getting cut by her! I need to get another cut elsewhere now. She said she was a recent graduate from the Rod Sickler school. I should have walked when she started the consultation by talking about how she couldn't find her stool that she needed to cut my hair... She cut a random really short piece off the TOP of my head. So now I have shoulder length hair with a Little Rascals, Alfalfa piece flailing helplessly about off the TOP of my head 5 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. Guess this is why she needed her STOOL? She was new and didn't know what she was doing. She stated multiple times that something could not be done, which even I can do.... Examples: drying my hair without it frizzing? So I left with wet hair... did this so I wouldn't immediately see her mistakes? She argued that I didn't need shaping around the face and that it couldn't be done. Oh yea.... She said negative things about previous customers too.

I've been going to this salon for a year and a half and it's time to find a new one. I didn't…read moreconsider myself picky but I don't think these folks take enough time to really ask what you want. I have short, thick hair with soft curls. Three times I've seen Anne and while she's sweet she doesn't know how to cut with my curl pattern, and right now I'm left with hair a lot shorter than I wanted with texture chunks in places that look horrible and that I can't style until it grows out more. My curls personality is gone for at least a month, and this is my third bad experienc. extra star because the dog in the salon is cute.

My hair is super thick and can be unruly in the heat, and of course it ended up being 90+ degrees on my wedding day but she managed to pin it perfectly and spray enough to hold it. It lasted ALL day in the heat and humidity- I was so impressed. Highly recommend her for bridal hair!!

It's a…read morepretty unassuming place, tucked away in a residential neighborhood, and I probably wouldn't have found it on my own. I was looking for a place to get haircuts here in Champaign--I'd tried the foofoo day spas and was looking for something a bit nicer than the $10 haircut places in Campustown. A co-worker with a great haircut recommended Crystal, and the rest is history! I've never had a bad haircut at Ruth's. Ever. And I have tried several different styles, from medium-length to short. Crystal always gives me a haircut that looks good, even when I am the one doing the styling. Since I am not very good at doing "things" to my hair, she keeps it nice and simple. She is super-friendly and is able to adapt pictures of haircuts from magazines or books into something that actually looks good on ME, rather than mimicing the style and leaving me with a haircut that looks lousy on me. The stylists at Ruth's are comfortable with a lot of different styles, including the standard little-old-lady wash & set; chic, retro "ladies who lunch" styles; and modern-looking styles. Prices are reasonable, too!
