Angela was really good at understanding that the only reason I was sitting in her chair was because my mom made an appointment and gave it to me and my sister was paying to have my sparklies dyed away. It would be the first time getting my hair dyed since Mexico where my hair was dyed 2x after the colorist made me a blonde ala-Kardashian and I hated it. And then he dyed it again the next day back to my more naturally dark brown color. Essentially my hair was fried and ruined til it all grew out again. Flash forward 4 Year's and my family is having a family portrait done in Urbana and it was decided I should get my hair colored as all my older sisters have no grey hair, and I had tons. I don't know if my photo does the results justice, but my boyfriend said "wow" when I came home, and we know men never notice hair changes . I am absolutely in love with the hairstyle (cut and color) that Lauren did for me!! I have been to a few salons in the Central IL area and my favorite thing about this one is how welcoming they are! The stylists are extremely friendly. They do a great job of bouncing ideas off of each other, as well as you. Especially when you're like me and you go in there with a handful of ideas on what you want or what you think could or couldn't look good! I'm incredibly new to the hair coloring scene, but if I've learned anything, it's that communication with your stylists is KEY!!! Not only that, but they are so good about working you into their schedules, especially when you're as busy as I am! I called in with three or four different time frames that could work for me and they very politely gave me options and told me they would be willing to contact me if any openings became available in the time frames that I asked for! For a first time customer, this was HUGE! Poor Lauren spent THREE or FOUR hours on my hair. I felt awful that I had taken up that much time, but she was sure to reassure me that it wasn't a big deal!! ..which is such a great feeling when you're the one who throws more hair at her than she was expecting! In the end, I was extremely happy with my hair! AND MY EYEBROWS. DON'T GET ME STARTED ON HOW GOOD MY EYEBROWS LOOK NOW!!! (Aka, get your eyebrows done here!!!) Angela did an amazing job! She balayaged all of my tons of hair, educated me on how to take care of it, and showed me how to keep the curl in it for my bridal shower the next day. As someone whose hair doesn't grow very well, I read all the reviews before I choose to get my hair cut. This time, I decided to get my hair cut from the length I had it my whole life (around the middle of the top part of my arm) to a shorter cut around my collarbone. I told Angela that I was absolutely terrified of going too short, since it doesn't grow due to my constant need to straighten my curly hair. When she was done, I really liked the cut. Little did I know that as soon as I left, it started to flip out around the shoulders and the back was way way shorter than I wanted - above my shoulders. I was devastated. I absolutely hate my hair and I haven't liked anything except putting it in a ponytail, which I will be doing for the next year until it grows back. I imagine Angela is pretty great for edgy cuts, but I am more of a reserved person and I walked away with something I am extremely unhappy with, for $50. Historically, I have had a difficult time finding a hairdresser that cuts my hair well. I took my chances on Angela when she was at H2O Salon in Urbana based on a review from a friend. I was so pleased with the service that I stopped looking. Angela has now opened up her own salon in Urbana. Without hesitating I followed here there. Once again, she had given me a top notch cut and style, even fixing some of the damage that was caused by other stylists during the time she was setting up her salon. It's a small and quaint salon, but I appreciate the free attached parking. Most upscale salons in the CU area are in areas where parking is not free and sometimes even difficult to find. This salon has two parking areas and is conveniently located on Main st just east of downtown Urbana. When Angela moved from H2O Salon, I was devastated. I was not initially aware that she was setting up her own salon. She takes the time to get to know me and my hair, and no matter what cut or colour I do (I change often!), it always turns out amazing because of this extra effort. I've had trouble in the past with other stylists who never quite got it right. I would come out of the salon looking amazing and never be able to get it to look right on my own.
