Took my brutha here to celebrate his birthday and it's basically an upscale carryout. A couple sets of (8) chairs outside and a few benches inside - all occupied. Plus, it's too chilly to be eating outside...so we took the food to his place up the street. No worries - food will be good, right?? First the good: That hearty smokiness of summertime barbecue wafted from the front door as I walked up, had me totally turned on. Service was excellent from the guy waiting on us. Now, the rest.... + The (full slab) beef ribs were dry, oversalted and tough. + The pound of lamb shank I ordered didn't taste like lamb. I actually thought they had forgotten to give me my order. Their smoking process shouldn't overwhelm the natural earthiness I was expecting - from lamb. + The fried chicken was moist and juicy with a nice crunch. Decently seasoned too. + The garlic potatoes tasted old. + Assorted sauces we good...enough. + Rolls are tasteless. I could've taken my brother to a thousand other places and spent far less than $89, and we were both disappointed with this one. The bag was heavy too so we were falsely encouraged initially. There's parking right next door but we parked in the gas station across the street and walked over. I won't be returning.

One of them was carrying a huge amount of plates to the entrance and dropped them and yelled a big FUCK. Then ran back inside and came back stomping and repeating fuck. As well they are very misleading, they don't have actual crab as they announce on their social media outlets. Attached a menu. I ordered a soda and the whole glass was filled to the top of tiny ice cubes and the soda was flat, wonder why???? I left after ordering the appetizer and went to a different restaurant. Please just save your time and not visit this establishment.

We ordered a dozen large which they were not able to fill so they threw in a bunch of extra mediums beyond the dozen! They provide paper for the table, and all the fixings if requested. The crabs were cooked perfectly and quite dense for being so early in the season. The Cole slaw was fresh, creamy with a nice crunch, and the cocktail shrimp were on point. It was a bit pricey compared to others outside DC and Annapolis but it is NW DC. Will 100 percent be visiting again soon. Have to support local businesses at this time!

I think I know what it is. When people think of Eastern Europe, generally they don't think YUM! They think bleak winters and commie oppression, I get it; but when you're faced with bleak grey skies and brutalist architecture what do you have to fall back on? That's right, food! I've lived and traveled extensively across the FSB (Former Soviet Block), and have been pleasantly surprised at how awesome the food is. Alright, "Taste of Eastern Europe," that's a huge swath of land, I was curious WHERE exactly these guys are from. Turns out my suspicions were confirmed when they said they were from Bulgaria. The shopska salata was a dead giveaway. Bulgarians LOVE salad, just trust me on this. Whenever you go to a Bulgarian restaurant they'll be at least a page just devoted to salad options. (Of course it's a bit misleading because one salad may differ from another by just one ingredient.) So, what did I have? I ordered the kufte platter with bean and shopska salata as my sides. My suspicion is that the bean salad is fasoul jahnia mixed with lyutenitsa, I could be mistaken (I'm pretty sure that I'm not.) The whole order consists of two HONKING pork patties (one would be a sufficient meal), a roll, and generous dollops of both the bean and shopska salad, with a tiny cup of what is probably lyutenitsa. This is an amazing value for 10 bux! The pork patties are nicely spiced and juicy with great grill marking. With both sides complimenting the kufe well. Seriously these guys need more love, they're probably one of my favorite food truck options for lunch. Not to disparage the other food options but I feel like these guys offer what is distinctly lacking. Right now they don't have insane lines forming in front of them (hopefully this B.S. changes with my review) yes, I'm sort of shooting myself in the foot if they get more popular, but I don't want these guys to one day no longer be there. Their food tastes great and finally I think its a tremendous value! So next time you're checking out the food trucks and you see these guys give them a try. It's food that your Bulgarian baba would cook for you, who doesn't love their baba?!
