Just stumbled upon this food truck on my lunch break and I realllllly wanted to like it :( I got the jerk chicken sandwich and some scotch bonnet sauce on the side to put on the sandwich... I didn't look at the food until I got back to my desk and just looking at it I knew it wasn't authentic. He said the sandwich bread was real coco bread but it indeed was not. It was just a regular roll then he packed on mayo when I said just a little. The flavor of the jerk chicken was bad but it was not the authentic jerk flavor I'm use to. In my opinion real jerk is supposed to be so spicy your lips burn lol I could not eat the sandwich as it came. I didn't want to waste my $9 so I just dissected the sandwich taking off the lettuce and tomato and using one piece of the break to eat with the chicken with the scotch bonnet sauce which made it somewhat tolerable. read more

Jerk chicken is definitely one of my favorite foods. It's hard to find a good place in the NoVA suburbs so when there's a truck, I always give it a shot. Reggae Vibes offered a platter of Rice&Beans, Cabbage, Bananas, and of course the Jerk Chicken. I thought the seasoning was pretty good with a hint of sweetness. Some other places I've eaten make their seasoning definitely more peppery. R.Vibes definitely toned it down a bit but it was still delicious to me for a quick lunch. I was not impressed with my jerk chicken sandwich, although I think it had the potential to be much better. First, it was served with mayonnaise, which I personally hate and to me makes no sense. I asked the vendor what was served on the sandwich (because the menu is not very descriptive) and there was no mention of mayonnaise. With a spicy, jerk sauce, I can't imagine mayonnaise elevating or complementing it. And second, the chicken itself was a bit bland, especially considering that it was supposed to be jerk-flavored. The best part of the sandwich and where I think it has the most potential is the actual jerk sauce. It was surprisingly tasty, with a somewhat authentic jerk taste and some spice to it. The problem was that it was used rather sparingly on the sandwich and showed up only in small pockets. Those bites were really good, but the rest not so much. A Sweet Jerk ... Is That An Oxymoron? I got the jerk chicken. What else is new? I'm learning that jerk chicken is like mumbo sauce. Everybody has a different way of making it. I've always known jerk sauce to not have sweetness, but lately, I seem to be coming across many that are sweet. Could this be a Mandela Effect?? Anyhow, file Raggae Vibes in the sweet jerk sauce category. It's tastes OK, but I am #teamnonsweet. (Let's make #teamnonsweet a thing. Work with me people.) I guess there are two types of people in the world, salt grits or sugar grits, almond joy or mounds, red pill or blue pill, wheat and tares, good or evil, and most importantly sweet jerk sauce or non sweet. The meal was OK overall. What I really enjoyed was the way the chicken was prepared. I could tell it was grilled. The char was probably the most enjoyable part of the meal. The rice and peas and cabbage were default. In closing, I'd go back and probably try something different. I caught the food truck on Wisconsin Ave, and I was excited to see a Caribbean option. The gentleman serving the food was very friendly and my food was prepared pretty quick during the lunch rush. I will say I had to go back twice because they didn't give me my complete order. However, they were so sweet about it I forgive them. The food was very tasty reminds me of my grandmother's food. Two things made me want to try this food truck over Carnivore, a tried and true BBQ truck who may have made their first and only appearance in Friendship Heights today. First, the smell emanating from Reggae Vibes was delicious. It may have been the chicken curry, but the spiciness indicated jamaican jerk. Second, they don't call them Reggae Vibes for nothing. The tunes coming out of this truck, combined with the billion degree weather, had me in the island mood. Place me on a beach (actually, someone please do that... permanently) and I'd have been ready to dance. I got my order in a tiny foreboding cardboard box and the evil specter of disappointment cast its ugly visage over my sunny disposition. The good news is that the Jamaican jerk sauce was adequately complex, thoroughly spicy, and seeped into the chicken. The bad news is that you only get four pieces of bony chicken, the rice and beans are shockingly underseasoned, and the cabbage, flavored only with gardenia and black pepper, was inconsistently cooked. The rice and beans could be excused if the jamaican jerk sauce was generously poured over it. Not surprisingly, the jerk sauce was the proper remedy to provide much needed flavor for the rice. Lamentably, there simply wasn't enough sauce. The cabbage was a rather unmitigated disaster which was shocking given that it is a vegetable that I generally love. Still, the irrepressible Meatloaf once stated that two out of three ain't bad. And if the rice was thoroughly covered in that delicious jerk sauce, this meal would have been salvaged. This is a new truck, and I am confident that the product will come around. In the meantime, however, I might have to see if I have room for a Carnivore run later this afternoon. read more

I'd like to think my mom is the best Jamaican cook in America but these guys are a close second! I got the curry goat platter and got coco bread and cabbage as my sides. I have to say this tasted authentic to me and just like my moms curry goat! They even had scotch bonnet sauces on the side of truck in case you want a little more spice in your dish but they didn't make it particularly spicy (I think they could have but they are trying to cater to a diverse crowd so I get it). If your order something that isn't jerk, it can take forever. However the portions are large, and the food is generally pretty good. However, the casual laid-backness can be taken a little too far. I found little bits of bone in my curried chicken once... it doesn't bother me too much, but I know it's a no-no generally. The guys running the truck are definitely not in a hurry... and they do cook things from scratch sometimes. In short: hearty portion sizes and tasty food. I ordered the Curry Chicken platter and service was fast, getting me my box within a couple minutes. I opened the box and couldn't help but say "wow" as I saw a huge spread of rice, cabbage, and chicken. The flavored rice and cabbage were excellent accompaniments to the boneless chicken thighs, which were juicy and full of flavor. It's a solid option but definitely not some place that you would crave if you grew up with authentic Caribbean food and are picky about your food. I was craving Roti but unfortunately they don't sell that anymore. And they were out of Curry Shrimp.... despite me coming right as they opened lol. I settled for 1/2 Jerk Chicken, 1/2 Oxtail and a Beef Patty. It's okay that they take forever to make your order (even if no one else is there), you are guaranteed conversation with one of the guys. The jerk was sweet. So sweet that I would bet $50 that the marinade came out of a plastic bottle from the meat aisle at Pionner/ Key Food Supermarket. The chicken was also on the dry side, bland, and the bone was huge. Definitely would not eat again. The Oxtail.... That gave me hope. It was better than I expected after eating the "Jerk". Bit more bony than I would have liked, but the flavors were on point, the meat was tender, combined with the rice I completed cleaned out that side of the box. The Beef Patty smelled so good when I was walking up, that I just had to get one. Unfortunately I forgot to get some Coco Bread too :(. The patty reminded me a little bit too much of Golden Krust. Far too much like Golden Krust. The Steamed Cabbage had a ridiculous amount of black pepper on it. So much black pepper that after one bite, I started to look for my epi pen-- just in case. And I'm not even allergic to spices! Rice is rice. Not worth getting a separate side of. I might come back for the Oxtail or try the Curry Shrimp but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

I had gotten cavities filled from my dentist and was looking to reward myself so I stopped here. I got the jerk chicken plate and it was delicious! Good sized portions and tasty sauce. The people there are also super friendly -- embarrassed to say, but RIGHT after I got my food I tripped and fell on an uneven pavement on a public sidewalk across from Van Ness station (watch your step!) and one of the people in the truck saw me and replaced my food for free even after I offered to pay for it. Had my 1st encounter today at my job during it's food truck week. The outside of the truck had a nice & clean presentation along with good smells and sweet reggae tunes playing from speakers. Since I'm not a food truck person this eased my fears a little also the crowd made it a easy decision. Let me state that the Caribbean food in MD is trash. I don't know what the standards are but its low. Being from NY where there's abundance of Caribbean people & having friends have from yard (Jamaica) have refined my palate of the Caribbean nature. Reggae Vibes has the BEST Caribbean food I've tasted in MD so far. I've tasted from places ranging from B-More to DC and everything inbetween. High costs for low quality food. Reggae Vibes has that island taste I'm used to. Ordered the Jerk platter (Jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage) and for $2 extra he threw in sum plaintain plus a ginger beer. So total was $12 but well worth it as my to go plate was filled to the brim with food and the "sweetness" I've heard others complain about was abscent. Straight more fiyah jerk pon di ting lol. Big chunks of jerked chicken breast with jerk gravy covering dry rice & peas, juicy cabbage topped with sweet sweet plaintain. I wish Reggae Vibes was closer to my area but if I gotta travel to PG so be it. Caught up with this truck today at truckeroo, and it just kept staring me in he face. I knew when I saw it that i would have to try it. My favorite food being curry goat, and the fact that last month i saw really no authentic Jamaican food at truckeroo it was kind of a no brainer. My only question was "is it good?" I'll put it like this... If i was a goat, i would follow this truck around every day carrying a sack of fresh thyme, carrots, potatoes, and a pouch of fresh curry. Just to get there attention. I would literally audition to be added to their recipe. Every bite was perfection. The chunks or potatoes, and carrots really impressed me. I haven't encountered any other restaurant in the area that does it this way, and it really added something to the dish for me. It had a slight kick of spice that was so suddle it could only have been perfected over time. I highly recommend this truck. It was the highlight of my truckeroo experience, and i hope they are there for the rest of the summer. Well done! read more

Visiting Maryland for the week for training and the provided food from my job was insufficient. I needed to find quality food that would be ready quickly so I settled on stopping by the food trucks posted in Chevy Chase. The Reggae Vibes truck was a Godsend !!! With a quick order of Oxtail platter, i swapped out my cabbage for plantain and received an awesome platter of rice and peas. I also ordered a beef patty and a Jamaican Kola. Today was my introduction to Reggae Vibes Foodtruck in Rockville. My co-workers and I are happy to have you here!! I tried the Chicken Roti and this is some of the best I have had; and I used to live in Adams Morgan where Jamaican restauarants are plentiful. The roti had lots of curried chicken (white and dark meat) with potatoes, seasonings are complex and this is not hot-spicy hot.Could use a little more curried gravy. There are not enough words to explain how good this food is. we had Reggae Vibes cater my company holiday party and it was such a hit that my co-workers have been using them for their office and personal parties. It's really not often you get get a chance to appreciate and enjoy effort that goes into preparing and providing a good well cook plate with all the right spices and flavors. So let me preface this review by noting I grew up in South Florida so I'm very familiar with what authentic Caribbean food tastes like and this was not it. I had been craving curry goat and jerk chicken so when I saw this truck at Truckeroo I literally ran over to beat the people in front of me to the line. I thought the prices were standard for this area but the girl taking the orders could've been a little more attentive and actually opened her mouth as my boyfriend asked questions about the menu. Instead I answered his questions and we made our choices. I selected the curry goat and paid an additional 2-3 dollars for cocoa bread. The wait was almost non-existent which was nice and as soon as I opened the container I realized this wasn't going to be good. There was probably three actual pieces of goat, the rice and peas were mushy and there was no scent to my food at all. After a bite I noticed everything was really bland and just not good. Obviously the majority of my meal was a hunk of the rice and peas which had no real flavor minus a hint of sweet(assuming coconut water/milk). My boyfriends' jerk chicken sandwich was just as bland. He ended up adding hot sauce to help out. That cocoa bread I ordered ended up being a big hunk of white bread. More of a roll actually. I grew up eating patty and cocoa bread as a snack so I was extremely annoyed that they charged me for that bs as if I wouldn't know any better. The also charge you 1.00 so that they can accept credit cards. I will not be giving these people my money again and I would tell anyone who'd listen to go elsewhere. The jerk chicken is good, the coco bread is good. The beef patty has been hit or miss, but still okay. The last time I went they gave me coco bread half price and a free champagne soda since I was buying a lot of food. It was really nice of them and I'd definitely keep buying their food. More specifically the jerk chicken is a brown sauce, I prefer yellow but it's still quite yummy. Serving size is great, lots of food if you're hungry.
