Fish casserole is delicious. Big bowl of white fish with Napa underneath and fresh garlic on top . i've had it before with peapods and I really like that. It's delicious. Great if your tummy isn't feeling good, huge portion love this place.

The lunch special prices are very reasonable for a nice amount of food! I had the kung pao chicken which came with an egg roll and fried wonton, as well as a cup of soup and tea. Quite the feast for $13.50! Everything tasted great and my dish was perfectly spicy. The service was good and the place is nicely decorated. I like the window that allows us to see the chefs at work! Overall, this was a good experience and I'll be back to take advantage of the lunch specials again.

I went here on Mother's Day with my family(10) people) The people were very friendly. Our appetizers came out on time and together. When our main course came out. It came out two dishes at a time every time every 7 to 10 minutes! My mother got her food 30 minutes after the first main dish got to the table. As you can imagine we kept asking where is the rest of our food and the woman that runs the place place kept saying it's coming don't worry. Normally, I will tip over 20% when there is good service. I planned on leaving a lower tip because of the poor service but when I got the bill, the tip was already included because we had a large party which I totally understand. However I feel that they intentionally gave us bad service because they knew they were getting 20%. The restaurant was not that busy. The food was mediocre. Because of the way we were treated, I will never go back! If you go there with a large expect to be treated poorly. I have never been treated this way at the Schaumburg location.

*ordered for delivery* the pros - the noodle sauce was tasty. noodles held up during the delivery. sweet and sour sauce was still hot and it was delicious. the cons - not enough noodles. not enough pork - lot of fried parts that didn't have any meat. overall it satisfied the cravings but wish we got more.

Years ago, when Golden Chef occupied the spot where Yu's Mandarin now stands, it was my extended family's go-to Chinese restaurant in the suburbs. After Golden Chef closed, we waited a very long time for a worthy Chinese restaurant to take its place. Yu's Mandarin shows promise of becoming just that. So far, we've only tried their takeout. There were a couple of times we considered celebrating special occasions there, but we were disappointed to learn they didn't serve whole chickens or whole fish, which are essential dishes for traditional Chinese celebrations. Because of that, we held off on dining in. Thankfully, they now offer whole fish. Although it's on the pricier side, it's a step in the right direction and gives us hope that Yu's Mandarin could become a place for future family gatherings. For now, this review is based on our takeout experience. Vivian, who also speaks Cantonese, was knowledgeable and friendly over the phone. She answered our questions with confidence and helped us navigate the menu. On occasions when a younger staff member struggled with menu details, speaking with Vivian made a big difference. According to my husband, who picked up the orders, the parking lot is quite small, and parking can be a bit tricky. As for the food itself, it's been a mix of hits and misses. The Crabmeat and Velvet Corn Soup was a standout, smooth, flavorful, and reminiscent of what you'd find at a high-quality Chinatown restaurant. The Double Pan-Fried Noodles with Seafood was my favorite: crispy noodles, generous portions of fresh seafood, and a well-balanced sauce. On the other hand, the Garlic Chicken lacked garlic flavor and the chicken was not tender enough. Yang Chow Fried Rice is listed as "Mixed Meat Fried Rice" on the menu, was bland and short on ingredients. Despite a few missteps, we are happy to have what seems to be an authentic Chinese restaurant close to home. We are looking forward to dining in soon and trying more items from their menu. With some consistency and continued improvements, Yu's Mandarin could truly become a neighborhood favorite.

I finally got here, been wanting to come since this new location opened! We came here with friends for lunch! The portions were small! I had the beef with flat rice noodles (this was pretty good and had a lot of "wok hey")! My friends had Mongolian beef (great flavor and beef was very tender) garlic chicken (too salty and the chicken was dry) and the Kung Pao Shrimp (shrimp was over cooked)! The staff really are not too attentive, we waited over 10 mins before anyone came to get our order! The noise level was pretty high, can't hear each other talk without raising our voice! All lunch entrees come with egg roll, fried wonton, fried rice and soup (choice of hot & sour or egg drop)!

Yu's Mandarin - Love the Food, Service Missed the Mark. We went to Yu's Mandarin on wUwU's actual birthday. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded--but the service didn't reflect that. We ordered soup with our main dishes, and it never came, yet it was still on the bill. No water was brought to the table either--we had to ask just to get some. That said, I still love the food. We order takeout from here regularly and have dined in so many times, which is why this experience was disappointing. The food remains solid, but the service that night was unexpected and off. Hoping it was just an off day.

Nice addition to Milwaukee Avenue for a quick lunch. Ample portions of protein in both the Mongolian Beef and Orange Chicken lunch specials. The rice with diced veggies served with it was a bit disappointing- very dry. The Hot and Sour soup was tasty. Server was very attentive as were other staff. The kitchen is visible through a glass viewing window...fun to watch the flames jumping up as they're cooking on the woks.

We made our first visit to this newest Yu's Mandarin location and had a mighty fine lunch. They run an efficient operation, and the wife and I were promptly greeted and provided a table in the middle of the vibrant and mostly Chinese lunch crowd. Glasses of cold water and a carafe of hot tea were then readily brought out. We ordered their Peking noodles ($10.50) and moo-shu pork combination lunch special ($11.50). They were 4-star good, served piping hot fresh, and also generously sized servings. We were both nicely provided a big cup of soup (egg drop for me and hot and sour for the wife) even though we only ordered one lunch combo special. The server was a welcoming and friendly lady but I didn't catch her name. Their dining space doesn't initially appear quite as large as you might think from the outside, but they have a large side room with several big tables that sort of hides their true capacity. I observed also their large open kitchen window in which you could see 4 chefs working in a big, open, and airy kitchen and they get to look out at the diners just as we get to look in on them. I thought this must be the nicest kitchen setup a chef could have in an Asian kitchen! Overall, a very nice lunch visit, and a solid 4 star experience. Thank you!

I thought this would be just another ordinary Americanized. Chinese restaurant but I was wrong. Their food is actually really good. Some dishes are more authentic than the others, There are still some americanized dishes, which are quite good, like the walnut shrimp, Which I love their version, by the way. But my friend recommended the noodle soup which I don't regret saying yes to at all.It was really good. And their broth was really authentic. It was super savory and flavorful. They're noodles was homemade or housemaid. Which meeting amazing. Service was great. We were taken care of really well and the place. Uh, is your typical Chinese place? Good ambience. And I think it would be good for group and family dinners. I would definitely come back to try more stuff on the menu because they do have an extensive menu. Happy eating!

06/26/24 - My wife & I were returning from Grayslake where we met a friend. We were both hungry & decide to stop @ Yu's Mandarin for dinner. Yu's Mandarin is fairly new. They completely remodeled the exterior of the exterior & interior & did a beautiful job. The first thing I noticed when I went into Yu's was total gut rehab of the exterior & the interior. I had eaten at the other restaurant Golden Chef on a number of occasions prior to them closing. Yu's Mandarin did an awesome job We ordered 3 dishes. They were all generous portions & not too expensive which is very much appreciated in these times of rising prices & extreme inflation. The dishes we ordered were 1) Szechuan Eggplant was excellent & the best dish 2) Fish Filet was also delicious (but I found out that they use tilapia which I usually don't eat) 3) Salt & pepper squid was good but a bit too chewy. I didn't know that had salt & pepper smelt as it wasn't on the menu (NEXT TIME). Raymond our server was awesome. From the moment we walked in he greeted us, seated us & brought our menus. Throughout the meal he was attentive. His was a very enjoyable meal. Nice ambiance, good food, good prices & great service. Next time I'm up in Wheeling I will stop by again.

I'm kind of upset writing this because I loved Yu's Mandarin, but what we ordered today really had lots of issues. First of all, I was able to order in Mandarin Chinese so I'd think the staff wouldn't treat me like a foreigner and that they'd try to actually cook it to Chinese ppl's palate, but what we had was...really mediocre. The most upsetting thing is I think the mushroom they used as well as a few other vegetable ingredients were all from canned, instead of being fresh. There's a particular taste to canned foods you could just tell. There's also an overwhelming taste of brined salt taste rather than freshly added salt and other flavors. Some of the vegetables tasted kind of stale and old, lack of the crisp and refreshing-ness. We ordered on a Saturday evening, so I highly doubt that there's a supply issue. The eight treasure tofu casserole came in a large tray, which initially we thought "wow very generous portion", but the ingredients were not that fresh, or I think they didn't process the sea cucumber correctly so there's a remnant stale taste that permeated through all other ingredients. My kids usually love Chinese food, but they were all saying that it's not good. The egg drop soup was also really disappointing, they put tomatoes in it :(, which, ok maybe it's creative, but it really doesn't go well and the flavor is subpar. When we want egg drop soup, we really just want the clean egg drop soup. Not tomato egg soup. I'm really bewildered at the quality of foods we got this time. We typically order from Vernon Hills and not Wheeling, but expected the Wheeling to be the same or better. Maybe it's a fluke. We really hope to see more fresh ingredients (particularly mushroom and vegetable, please don't use canned) and more depth of flavors that bring out the Chinese taste (more salt is not always the answer).

For its category, consider this small and local Chinese takeout only (with a couple of tables to…read moredine in) decent for its fair price and food service. If there was nothing memorable I would have give the usual 3 stars, but it gets 4 stars from me because they consistently have one of the BEST hot and sour soup I've ever tasted. The soup itself is hot and spicy (as it should be hence, the name), and is flavorful and iwith the right ingredients. I always go for the large for a bit more to make the trip worth it, $4.25. Oh and be careful, the soup is always piping hot so you can burn yourself. But that just tells me they have it on the stove and always is freshly made. I always come back here for the soup... mmm mmm good! Believe it or not, nor every place can make great soups and for me, soups says a lot about a place. I'm sure there are some hits and misses on the menu and I can't acclaim to all of them. But I can recommend the Szechuan Shrimp, $6.35, which is a L24 lunch special that comes with an egg roll. I've had that a couple of times and it has not disappoint. The portion is huge for the dollar. The fried rice (with green beans and corn) is plenty and is moist. They have fresh veggies (green bell peppers, broccoli) in their entrees (baby corn and water chestnuts are canned) and the shrimp is huge (you get about 5 pieces) which to me is better than getting the tiny itty bitty ones. Plus, their shrimp doesn't smell. Some Asian places have used shrimp that has a very bad water odor, rbis place does not have that in their shrimp. So for a quick bite (they do cook food very fast so your wait shouldn't be long), this place is a great solution for when you are in the area and looking for some quick Chinese takeout. I spent almost $12 for an individual entree and a large soup that will leave me with at least 1 more meal for leftovers. I'm happy with it and I've been back for more.

Just a heads up though the portions for dine in felt a tad on the smaller side especially for the sesame chicken. On the service front it was a bit hit or miss. We found ourselves with empty drink glasses for quite a while and it seemed like the staff mainly came by to take our order and drop off the food. However, there was a really sweet young kid at the register who was super helpful and friendly he definitely brightened things up. Finding the place can be a bit of an adventure. It's tucked away in a cozy corner right next to the grocery store so you really only spot it once you've parked. Oh and a quick tip make sure you don't mix it up with the Korean restaurant nearby. A couple of minor bummer moments the chicken lo mein wasn't quite what we hoped for. The noodles were super thin and crunchy rather than the thicker, chewier kind we expected and sadly they were out of egg drop soup that day which was a shame. Despite a few little things the delicious food definitely makes it worth checking out.

She gave me a good description and mentioning it had some spice to it, but not offensive. It was exactly what my husband wanted. It wasn't overly breaded and the sauce was sweeter, savory with a little heat. He was a happy man. The fried rice had plenty of chicken and cooked well. The portions were huge! I also ordered beef and broccoli Cantonese chow mein. This was delicious! There was so much beef and broccoli, the sauce wasn't salty and went perfect with the chow mein noodles. Takeout was usually ready in just 10 minutes, and they were almost always open, even on major holidays (though it's still a good idea to call ahead to confirm). We dined in once before the pandemic, but since that was more than seven years ago, it wouldn't be fair to review that experience now. We got takeout from Tong's Hunan on this July 4th, mostly because they were open until 8:00 pm even on this holiday.  We ordered a Braised Seafood Casserole ($20.95) and a House Special Pan-fried Noodles ($15.95), both were our go-to dishes.  Another go-to dish that we didn't order this time was Happy Family ($20.95) a combination of beef, shrimp, scallop, chicken and Chinese vegetables stir-fried in their house special brown sauce.  Entrees come with white rice. Tong's Hunan serves what I'd call old-school Chinese-American food. Many dishes rely heavily on brown sauce, which tends to overwhelm the natural flavors of the ingredients. While the food is still decent, many of the dishes end up tasting more alike than different. The pan-fried noodles were crunchy as they should be, but they were very greasy.  Even with the paper liner that they put underneath the noodles to absorb some of the oil, it's still very oily. On the positive side, the meats in both dishes were tender and the shrimp fresh and large.  However, the quality is more like a decent Chinese takeout eatery that's 3.5 stars.  I do like their consistency and convenience. The food is reliably decent, and takeout is usually ready in about 10 minutes. This visit took about 20 minutes, which was understandable given the holiday rush. Being open on major holidays is definitely a big plus.  So, 3.5 rounding up to 4 stars.
