I am a sucker for a good cocktail bar. The fact they offer bao buns was enough for us to stop in…read more The baos come in mushroom or duck, in a flight of 3. We ordered the duck. All you could taste was the hoisin. So sweet it buried the duck and the pickled vegetables. Why was it garnished with random lettuce? Who knows? The heavy-handed hoisin was bad, but the buns' lack of fluffiness was downright depressing. The cocktails were a blast. The one mocktail was a hit. The tiki-themed Portal, served in a poisoned-apple mug, was fun. The espresso martini was the highlight of the night. I could have used 40oz of it. Recommend the drinks. Skip the bao.

This one also has an assortment of ramen, noodle bowls and bubble teas. "Hawaii" is a chain with a remarkably large menu. I came in for poke but wound up with a rice noodle bowl, instead. Orders are placed at the counter just like a fast food joint but this isn't really fast food. Most of the food is actually made to order. The staff is really patient. They'll help you navigate the massive menu with many options. If you're dining in they'll bring your orders to your table. I picked thin rice noodles with spicy miso broth and pork belly. I also asked for most of the free toppings and the free hard boiled egg. The pork belly turned out to be a fatty cut. That was on me. Next time, I'll order BBQ pork l,instead. As for that "spicy" broth, they mean it. Next time, I'll also ask for a little less heat in my broth. Still, was a delicious meal which was prepared just for me. I added a large Lycee slushie to my order. It was pretty good but too large. I have to go medium next time. I couldn't finish the meal. I took it home and ate it again for breakfast the next day (I have a cast iron stomach and can eat spicy breakfasts). If this business is part of a chain where are the other restaurants? The manager said most are on Long Island. The Castleton restaurant is the only one in the Capital Region and the restaurant is largely a family-run operation. It's clean, bright, very modern and cute. There's cute wall art. Some illuminated. Others are wallpaper depicting food, pandas and the Chinese god of wealth. I especially liked the freshness of the vegetable ingredients in the bibimbap. I also liked the four banchan, including bean sprouts, lettuce kimchi, spicy zucchini, and broccoli. The ramyun noodles were chewy, and the broth had just the right amount of spiciness. The portions were moderate, and the service was, well, serviceable. It appeared that the restaurant is run by a two-person couple team. Things were busy during the lunch hour, so I didn't get a smile out of the staff or any water refilling. But the food was more than adequate. The menu is quite broad with Korean, Japanese, and Thai options.

They did seem to do quite a bit of takeout. It's located in a little strip mall right off route 8 in Torrington so it's super easy to access! The food was so good! We split crab rangoons and scallion pancakes and they were so fresh and didn't have that greasy/oily after taste that a lot of places have. Our waitress was so kind and explained one of the dishes to me and actually showed me how to use chopsticks as I wasn't quite grasping it from reading the instructions on the wrapper. They also were super nice chopsticks and not the cheap wooden ones that sometimes splinter! For our entrees my boyfriend had three different sushi rolls, the Godzilla the, the mermaid and the volcano and said they were all really good! They also were huge so we ended up taking half of it home. I had the Chicken Yaki Udon which is basically stir fried udon noodles with chicken and veggies in a sweet soy type sauce. Our waitress asked if we wanted ice cream at the end and it was the perfect way to end the meal! Everyone was so kind and the food was so good that we will definitely be back!!

Very inventive menu with some great sandwich options, salads, side veggies, and more. We struggled on what to get because everything looked tasty. The guy taking orders/running the register gave us great suggestions and knew the menu well. We went with a burger, fish sandwich, chicken Milanese sandwich and chilled long bean salad. We all traded bites and everything was excellent. My chicken was thin and crispy and still juicy on a perfect sesame seed bun with arugula and aioli - squeeze of lemon on top and we're good to go! Burger was juicy, and flavorful and the blackened fish was most delicious. The long beans slayed in an Asian type dressing with some Chiles in it - just the right amount of spice. Great selection of beer and wine plus tasty n/a drinks too. The pie slices sounded great but we couldn't pass up on the soft serve. Current flavors were corn and brown butter caramel. We got a swirl of both and inhaled it. Well worth a visit!
